Abstract

Abstract

Increased public awareness of halal product consumption requires food businesses, including poultry slaughterhouses (RPU), to fulfill their halal certification obligations as stipulated in Law No. 33 of 2014 concerning Halal Product Guarantee. However, small and medium-sized RPU still face limitations in halal literacy, understanding of regulations, and the ability to comprehensively implement the Halal Product Guarantee System (SJPH). This community service activity aims to accelerate the halal certification process through assistance in implementing SJPH at the Ba’i Mulya Kesesi Poultry Slaughterhouse in Pekalongan Regency. The method used was participatory assistance with stages of field observation, structured interviews, halal education, technical guidance on the preparation of SJPH documents, standardization of operational procedures for poultry slaughter in accordance with Islamic law, and assistance with halal certification registration. The results of the activity showed a significant increase in the managerial and administrative capacity of the partners, as evidenced by the formulation of written halal policies, the formation of an internal Halal Management Team, the development of standard operating procedures for halal slaughter, and the implementation of a daily hygiene and production recording system. The partners demonstrated an increased understanding and commitment to the sustainable application of halal and thayyib principles. This activity successfully improved the readiness of the Ba’i Mulya Poultry Slaughterhouse in applying for official halal certification. Assistance with the implementation of SJPH proved effective in accelerating halal certification while strengthening business management grounded in Islamic economic values.

Abstract

This community service program aimed to enhance digital financial literacy and promote the responsible use of financial technology (FinTech) among university students at Lagos State University of Education, Nigeria. The primary objective was to empower students with essential knowledge, skills, and ethical awareness needed to navigate digital financial technologies (DFINTECH) safely and effectively in their daily financial activities. The program adopted a participatory and educational-based approach that integrated capacity building, practical mentoring, and reflective evaluation. The method was implemented through four sequential stages: needs assessment, educational intervention, mentoring and practical engagement, and evaluation and reflection. The needs assessment identified students’ levels of financial literacy, patterns of FinTech usage, and key challenges related to digital security and financial decision-making. Educational interventions were delivered through interactive workshops covering budgeting, saving, responsible borrowing, FinTech services, digital security, and ethical issues. This was followed by mentoring and hands-on activities that guided students in critically evaluating and responsibly using selected FinTech applications. Program effectiveness was assessed through feedback instruments, observations, and reflective discussions. The results indicate a noticeable improvement in students’ understanding of digital financial concepts, awareness of financial risks, and confidence in using FinTech responsibly. Participants demonstrated increased critical thinking toward digital financial products and greater self-regulation in financial behavior. Overall, the program contributed positively to strengthening students’ financial resilience and promoting sustainable and ethical engagement with digital financial technologies.

Abstract

Public speaking skills training is a strategic necessity for preparing students to become competent preachers adaptable to the dynamics of contemporary da’wah. This community service activity aims to improve the public speaking skills of students at Pondok Darul Amanah through a participatory-educational approach that emphasizes a balance between theoretical knowledge and practical skills. The training is conducted over four weeks, with intermediate and advanced students as the main participants. The community service methods include initial needs mapping, delivery of theoretical material on effective communication principles, vocal techniques, body language, and speech preparation, as well as speaking practice through simulations and direct feedback. Data collection was carried out through participatory observation, reflective questionnaires, limited interviews, and activity documentation. The data was analyzed descriptively and qualitatively, combined with simple quantitative analysis to see changes in the students’ competencies before and after the training. The results of the activity showed an increase in self-confidence, mastery of speech structure, use of intonation and body language, and students’ readiness to perform as speakers. Students also showed a positive change in their perception of public speaking and increased participation during the training process. This training made a real contribution to students’ empowerment and has the potential to become a model for sustainable capacity-building in public speaking within Islamic boarding schools.

Abstract

The penetration of digital technology has heavily disrupted adolescent interaction patterns. The pervasive use of social media, when lacking adequate moral literacy, triggers the normalization of cyberbullying within school environments. This community service initiative aimed to fortify students' digital communication ethics and cognitive empathy through a novel framework: the Upstander-Based Digital Ethics Intervention. Involving 39 twelfth-grade students from SMK Kesuma Bangsa 2 Depok, the intervention utilized a Participatory Communication Approach. The program's stages encompassed baseline mapping, interactive digital citizenship education, case study analysis, role-playing simulations, and comprehensive evaluations. Quantitative outcomes revealed a substantial cognitive transformation, with the average literacy score surging by 60% (from 55 to 88). Psychomotor evaluations via role-play demonstrated that students successfully exercised assertive communication, shifting their behavioral tendencies from passive spectators (bystanders) to active defenders (upstanders). The findings were scrutinized using social learning and behavior change theories. Despite the potential for short-term observational bias, this program successfully laid the groundwork for a healthy cyber ecosystem through collective ethical commitments and the provision of a sustainable educational module to the institution.

Abstract

The increasing problem of plastic waste has become a serious environmental challenge, particularly due to its non-biodegradable nature and its negative impact on ecosystems. On the other hand, the demand for construction materials such as paving blocks continues to grow along with infrastructure development. This study aims to examine the utilization of plastic waste as an alternative material in the production of environmentally friendly paving blocks with economic value for the community. The method used in this study is the Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach, which actively involves the community through stages of observation, planning, training implementation, evaluation, and reflection. The study was conducted in Rengas Village, Kedungwuni District, with waste collectors as the research subjects. Data were collected through observation, pre-test, post-test, and practical assessments to measure improvements in participants' knowledge and skills. The results show that the utilization of plastic waste in paving block production produces materials that are lighter in weight, have lower water absorption, and exhibit good wear resistance. In addition, there was an improvement in community knowledge and skills in plastic waste management. From an environmental perspective, this innovation contributes to reducing the volume of plastic waste, while economically it can reduce production costs by approximately 25% and create new business opportunities for the community. In conclusion, the use of plastic waste as a material for paving blocks has significant potential as an innovative solution for waste management while supporting sustainable development based on a circular economy.

Abstract

Old age is a vulnerable phase marked by declining physical, psychological, and spiritual well-being, especially when accompanied by neglect from family or social environments. This study aims to strengthen the psychospiritual condition of the elderly (integration of psychological self-awareness and spiritual growth of the elderly) through multicultural religious guidance enriched with Islamic family jurisprudence values. Using a Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach with 11 stages, the program involved 32 elderly residents of the Bojongbata Social Service Home for the Elderly (PPSLU) in Pemalang as active participants. Data collection was conducted through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, focus group discussions, and joint reflections. Initial assessments revealed that 27 out of 32 participants experienced psychospiritual issues such as anxiety, loneliness, and loss of spiritual motivation. Following the “Pesantren Lansia” (Elderly Pesantren) program intervention, there was a noticeable improvement in their religious participation, emotional stability, and self-esteem. Many resumed daily prayers, engaged in religious study groups, and expressed a sense of inner peace. This model proves effective in restoring life meaning through a contextual and compassionate spiritual approach and is recommended as a replicable model for faith-based community interventions for the elderly.
