Abstract

Generation Z is a generation that grew up in the fast-paced and competitive digital era, making them vulnerable to psychological pressure that leads to psychosomatic disorders. Psychosomatic symptoms experienced by generation Z are caused by inner conflict, social pressure and identity crisis. Continuous pastoral accompaniment is needed to provide spiritual and emotional attention, as well as help generation Z overcome this challenge. This article criticizes the lack of a pastoral approach that is contextual to the realities experienced by Generation Z and seeks continuous and holistic accompaniment. By integrating theology and psychological understanding, this accompaniment is carried out as a recovery strategy in dealing with psychosomatic problems in generation Z as a whole.

Abstract

  Pastoral counseling has an important role in helping the congregation overcome various life problems faced. Pastoral counseling aims to mature God's people to be independent in faith in God. The main roles of pastoral counseling include helping counselees experience and accept their situation as a whole, find meaning and purpose, and facilitate positive change and growth. Pastoral counseling also plays a role in teaching healthy communication, giving full attention, fostering positive thinking, developing patience, and bringing the counselee closer to God through prayer and His word. Through holistic pastoral counseling, the congregation is expected to overcome life problems, experience complete recovery, and develop a strong and meaningful spirituality. The method used in this research is to use qualitative research methods using various literature books, journals and articles and other literature that supports this research. The approach in pastoral counseling must adapt to the specific needs and situation of each congregation, respecting the uniqueness of individuals and their backgrounds. The Bible and the guidance of the Holy Spirit become the main foundation in the implementation of pastoral counseling, with the aim of bringing the counselee closer to God and living life according to His will.

Abstract

This study examines the Mane'e culture in the Talaud Islands Regency, North Sulawesi, as a biocentric pastoral expression rooted in maritime local wisdom. Utilizing an ethnopastoral approach and qualitative-ethnographic interpretive methods, this study systematically examines three main dimensions of Mane'e culture: (1) ritual structure and its implementation procedures; (2) the content of biocentric ecological values; and (3) the theological-pastoral dimension articulated through these communal practices. The analysis shows that Mane'e culture is not merely an economic subsistence activity, but rather a living theological text that reveals the relational cosmology of the Talaud people a cosmology that places humans, marine ecosystems, communities, and the Creator in an inseparable relationship. This culture explains the principles of biocentrism within an authentic ethno-religious framework and can be a source of contextual pastoral ecological theology for churches in the Indonesian archipelago. Four principles of biocentric pastoralism are formulated: holistic relationality, ecological communality, ecological rituality, and intergenerational wisdom. This study contributes to the increasingly urgent discourse on contextual pastoral theology and ecotheology amidst the ecological crisis of Indonesia's coastal and archipelagic regions.

Abstract

Infidelity is a serious problem in marital relationships that can cause emotional trauma, especially for the victimized party. Mothers as victims of infidelity often face deep psychological distress and require special assistance for recovery. This article aims to explore effective pastoral counseling strategies for a mother who is a victim of infidelity. The purpose of this study is to analyze pastoral approaches that can provide emotional and spiritual support, and assist the victim's recovery process from the psychological and social impact of infidelity. This research used a qualitative approach. Data collection techniques in this study involved observation and interviews. The results showed that effective pastoral counseling involves an empathetic approach, spiritual support and guidance for emotional recovery. The counseling process includes active listening, providing faith affirmation, and helping victims forgive and rebuild confidence. In conclusion, pastoral counseling strategies play an important role in assisting victims of infidelity, not only in terms of emotional recovery, but also in supporting them to rediscover inner peace through a holistic and spiritual approach.

Abstract

This study aims to interpret 1 Corinthians 14:34–35 through a historical-critical hermeneutical approach in order to understand the meaning of the prohibition against women speaking in the congregation. By examining the social, cultural, and argumentative context of Paul’s writing, this study evaluates whether the prohibition is theological-normative or pastoral-contextual. The analysis shows that the text emerged from a specific situation in the Corinthian church, which was facing liturgical disorder. Therefore, the prohibition should not be understood as a universal command, but rather as a pastoral response to a particular situation. This study proceeds with a constructive theological approach to formulate practical implications for today's church, especially in encouraging equal participation of women in ministry. The theology developed from this text should not restrict women’s roles but instead affirm their active and equal involvement in the life of the congregation.

Abstract

Human trafficking is a form of human rights violation that has psychological, social, and spiritual impacts on victims. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of pastoral care in the trauma recovery of human trafficking victims at the Commission for Justice, Peace, and Pastoral Care for Migrants and Travelers (KKPPMP) in Batam. The theoretical framework of this study draws on Cathy Caruth’s concept of trauma and Howard Clinebell’s theory of pastoral care. The research employed a descriptive qualitative approach, utilizing data collection techniques such as participatory observation and interviews. The findings reveal that victims experience psychological trauma in the form of anxiety and low self-esteem; social trauma characterized by difficulties in building relationships; and spiritual trauma marked by struggles with faith. Pastoral care through individual counseling, group counseling, faith reflection, communal prayer, skills empowerment, and legal assistance has been shown to aid the victims’ recovery process. This study concludes that holistic and sustained pastoral care effectively supports the comprehensive recovery of human trafficking victims from trauma.

Abstract

Many Christians, both adolescents and adults, continue to struggle with feelings of inferiority, worthlessness, and inadequacy, even after knowing Christ for many years. This struggle reflects a crisis of spiritual identity in which a person’s sense of worth is grounded more in failure, past wounds, and cultural pressure than in the new identity in Christ. This study aims to examine how the concept of identity in Christ can transform self-paradigms and break negative core beliefs that underlie inferiority complex, as well as to formulate its implications for Christian counseling practice. The research employs a qualitative method with a library research approach, analyzing relevant literature in psychology, theology, and Christian counseling. The findings show that inferiority complex has a broad impact on mental health, social relationships, academic achievement, and work functioning, and in the Christian context is intensified by distorted understandings of grace, forgiveness, and the imago Dei. This study proposes an integrative theological counseling model consisting of three pillars: cognitive restructuring based on the Word of God, forgiveness therapy and inner healing, and spiritual formation and disciplines as means of identity renewal. The novelty of this research lies in the systematic integration of psychological concepts of self-esteem and inferiority with the doctrine of identity in Christ, translated into operational counseling steps. This model is expected to contribute to the development of Christian counseling practice that is more holistic, contextual, and Christ-centered in helping individuals move from inferiority complex toward a healthy self-identity before God.
