Abstract

Understanding religious values in early childhood is a fundamental foundation for shaping character and behavior in accordance with religious teachings. This study analyzes the effectiveness of using visual media, such as pictures and posters, in enhancing the comprehension of religious values at Raudhatul Athfal Arrahman Tinggito Kindergarten. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, the research involved observations of the learning process for children aged 5-6 years, interviews with teachers and parents, and documentation of learning activities. The results indicate that visual media is highly effective in helping children grasp abstract religious concepts, reducing cognitive load, and increasing interest and participation in learning. Pictures and posters not only facilitate the understanding of worship practices, such as prayer and ablution, but also connect physical actions with spiritual meanings. This study contributes to the development of interactive and effective religious learning methods in Early Childhood Education (ECE) and highlights the importance of collaboration between teachers and parents in supporting children's learning.

Abstract

Introducing numbers to early childhood is essential to build a foundation for logical thinking and problem-solving skills that will be used throughout their lives. This study developed an interactive learning medium in the form of a Lift the Flap Book Mengenal Bilangan 1–10 to help early childhood learners recognize numbers from 1 to 10. The research employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach using the ADDIE model, which includes the stages of analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The trial involved one teacher and five parents from TK Kanisius Genuk, as well as one teacher and five parents from TK PGRI Baran. Data were collected through expert validation of the content and media, and practicality tests using questionnaires administered to teachers and parents. During the implementation phase, the media was used on a limited basis in early childhood classes to observe children’s responses and the ease of use by teachers. Evaluation was conducted by collecting feedback from teachers and parents regarding their experience using the media during learning. The validation results indicated a feasibility score of 90.5%, while the practicality test achieved a score of 91%, suggesting that the media is both valid and practical for teaching number recognition to early childhood learners. This research produced an innovative learning medium that effectively supports an engaging learning process for children.

Abstract

This study explores the application of a holistic approach in improving the inclusion of children with special needs in non-inclusive schools, taking into account psychological, social, and academic aspects. Qualitative research was conducted through observation of interactions and behavior of children at RA Bina Mutiara Hati, Semarang. Interviews with the school principal and Class A teachers revealed the characteristics of children with special needs, the school's strategies, readiness to accommodate them, and the challenges faced in managing an inclusive environment. Documentation included observation notes, interview recordings, and photos to support the analysis. Descriptive analysis techniques were used to interpret the data in a structured manner. The research results showed obstacles such as inadequate infrastructure, limited teacher training, and a lack of support from parents and the community. It was found that coordination between schools, parents, and the community plays an important role in overcoming the challenges of inclusive education. Recommendations include improving school facilities, providing ongoing training for teachers, and launching community awareness campaigns. Additionally, parental involvement in creating an inclusive educational environment is strongly emphasized. This study is expected to assist non-inclusive schools in providing more responsive services to the needs of children with special needs and in addressing various existing challenges.

Abstract

The performance of educators at the Early Childhood Education (ECE) level plays a vital role in determining the quality of learning for children in their formative developmental stages. This study was conducted to examine the influence of formal educational background and professional teaching experience on the work performance of ECE teachers. Employing a quantitative method with an associative approach, the study involved 65 teachers as respondents. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire and analyzed through multiple linear regression with the assistance of SPSS version 27. The results revealed that the level of formal education did not significantly contribute to improving teacher performance, as indicated by a significance value exceeding the 0.05 threshold. In contrast, teaching experience showed a statistically significant relationship with teacher performance improvement, demonstrated by a significance value below 0.05 and a positive regression coefficient. This suggests that teaching experience exerts a stronger impact on shaping teacher competence and effectiveness than academic qualifications alone. Based on these findings, it is recommended that practice-based training programs be strengthened as part of the strategy to develop ECE teacher professionalism, particularly in the Periuk District, in order to support the sustainable improvement of early childhood education services.

Abstract

The development of religious character through environmental awareness has become an effective new method, making it important to be introduced to children from an early age. This study analyzes the implementation of the 5S habituation (Smile, Greet, Salute, Polite, and Courteous) combined with the reinforcement of environmental awareness at Darul Hasanah Kindergarten, located in Banjardowo Subdistrict, Genuk District, Semarang City. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach. The data collection techniques used in this study include observation, which was conducted while the children were engaged in activities inside or outside the classroom; interviews, which were carried out with the school principal, teachers, and parents; and documentation, which was used to analyze teaching modules and other documents related to the 5S cultural activities. The results of the study at TK Darul Hasanah show that the habituation of the 5S culture and environmental awareness in shaping children's religious character is consistently implemented through various daily activities at school. This research is expected to broaden the insights of school principals, kindergarten teachers, and parents so that they can help nurture a young generation that is courteous, religious, environmentally conscious, and well prepared to face future challenges with a strong spiritual foundation.

Abstract

Introducing basic astronomy concepts early can help children develop a deeper interest and understanding of science in the future, yet it remains underexplored. This study aims to examine the methods and benefits of integrating astronomy into early childhood education (ECE) curricula and its impact on child development. Using a qualitative approach with a case study method, the research involved four (4) ECE teachers in Jakarta and Depok who teach astronomy to children. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and analyzed thematically. Findings show that children are highly enthusiastic about learning astronomy. Teachers employed creative and interactive methods such as picture stories, educational videos, and simple experiments. Adapting the material to the child’s developmental stage—such as using simple language and easily understood analogies—was key to successful learning. Astronomy education was found to support the development of critical thinking skills, curiosity, as well as children's social and collaborative abilities. The study concludes that integrating astronomy into ECE curricula holds great potential for supporting child development. It provides empirical insights into how astronomy can be effectively adapted for early childhood learning. Additionally, the research offers recommendations for educators and policymakers in designing more meaningful curricula.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the importance of fulfilling the right to early childhood education for migrant children in Malaysia who still face various challenges. This study aims to analyze the fulfillment of early childhood education rights in Segambut Learning Studio Malaysia, with a focus on learning strategies, curriculum implementation, facilities, implementation constraints, and the impact of implementation on early childhood. A qualitative approach was used with a phenomenological method, through participant observation, in-depth interviews with one educator and three parents, and photo documentation of learning activities. Data analysis was conducted using an interactive model: data collection, data reduction, and conclusion drawing. Results show that the curriculum is tailored to children's needs through faith-based learning, culture, and social and emotional support. However, limited facilities, resources and children's motivation to learn are a challenge, as are policies, funds and the environment. This research contributes to recommending policy integration between Indonesia and Malaysia and strengthening community support. Collaborative efforts between government, communities and institutions are needed to realize an inclusive education environment for all migrant early childhood in Malaysia without exception.

Abstract

The integration of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics) learning in Early Childhood Education is increasingly recognized as essential for cultivating 21st-century skills. This systematic narrative review explores how STEAM learning, when combined with loose parts media, stimulates creativity in early childhood. A total of 515 articles were initially identified through four databases (ProQuest, ERIC, Open Knowledge Map, and Elicit) covering the years 2019–2024. After applying strict inclusion and exclusion criteria, eight peer-reviewed studies were selected for analysis. These studies vary in method, including qualitative, quasi-experimental, and review-based designs, and focus on children aged 3–6 years. The review reveals that loose parts media flexible, open-ended materials enhance key dimensions of creativity such as imagination, originality, problem-solving, collaboration, and innovation when implemented within the STEAM framework. Children engaged in these activities exhibit higher levels of critical thinking and exploratory learning. The findings also highlight the importance of teacher facilitation, cultural context, and long-term developmental impact. This review enriches both practical and theoretical understanding of creative learning strategies based on loose parts within the STEAM framework in early childhood education. It contributes new insights by synthesizing studies that explicitly connect both components, which are often examined separately. Educators and policymakers are encouraged to incorporate this integrative approach into early learning environments to maximize children’s cognitive and creative growth.

Abstract

This study aims to improve letter recognition skills in children aged 5–6 years at TK Punai, Tanjung Seteko Village, Indralaya Subdistrict, through the implementation of interactive card play methods. The research employs a Classroom Action Research (CAR) approach using the Kemmis and McTaggart model, conducted in two cycles. Each cycle consists of the stages of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The subjects of this study were 16 children in group B, aged 5–6 years. Data collection techniques included observation and documentation, while data analysis utilized both qualitative and quantitative approaches. The results showed an improvement in children’s letter recognition ability, with 81% in the first cycle and an increase to 95% in the second cycle. Thus, the interactive card play method proved effective in enhancing children's letter recognition skills. This study also had a positive impact on children's cognitive development, concentration, and memory. Interactive card games can stimulate children to think actively, develop their ability to remember letter shapes and names, and train eye-hand coordination.
