Abstract

Abstract: Using the UTAUT Model to Understand the Behavioral Intention to Use Mendeley Among Undergraduate Students of the Second Semester: Mixed Research Method. Objective: This study aims to uncover the factors that influence behavioral intention to use Mendeley among second-semester students at Tanjungpura University using the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT). Furthermore, this study deepens the findings of the UTAUT factors with qualitative research. Methods: This study utilised a mixed research method: quantitative-qualitative. Sixty students using the Mendeley application who were studying in the second semester at the Faculty of Engineering, Tanjungpura University, in 2023 became respondents in this study. Quantitatively, data were collected through a survey with the help of Google Form which was then analysed using the Partial Least Square Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) statistical testing method. Qualitatively, this study utilised open-ended interviews with selected students to explain the findings of the quantitative research. Findings: Based on SEM analysis, the factor that has a high influence on Behavioural Intention (BI) is Social Influence (SI) followed by Performance Expectancy (PE), and finally Effort Expectancy (EE). These findings are confirmed in qualitative research which reveals that the biggest influence of Mendeley adoption is environmental influence, namely encouragement from lecturers and from peers and the influence of the performance of the Mendeley application which helps citation and bibliography. Conclusion: This study concludes that students responded positively to the Mendeley application, perceived it as an application that can help write academic texts, easy to learn, and recognized that the factors of support from lecturers and peer influence as the main factors of the reasons for adoption. The low EE factor was caused by several usage problems experienced by students when connecting Mendeley and Microsoft Word which often caused errors. Keywords: RMS, mendeley, behavioral intention, UTAUT, mixed method.DOI: http://doi.org/10.23960/jpp.v14.i1.202441

Abstract

Abstract: How is the Process of Mathematical Literacy When Viewd From the Initial Mathematical Performance? The role of mathematics functionally in the context of everyday life which refers to the ability of individuals to respond to needs and obstacles in society is known as the conception of mathematical literacy. Mathematical literacy is an important aspect that every individual has to face the 21st century, there are 3 important processes in mathematical literacy, namely formulating, employ and interpreting mathematical results into everyday problems, besides that students' initial mathematical abilities are important and related to mathematical literacy. Therefore the aim of this research is to analyze the process of mathematical literacy in terms of initial mathematical abilities. This research is a qualitative descriptive study with a subject of 3 students consisting of 1 student each with high, medium and low initial math skills in junior high school students in Cimahi. The instruments used in this study were a Mathematical Literacy test instrument consisting of 3 questions, an initial mathematical performancetest and an interview guide. The results of this study indicate that students with low performance cannot carry out the 3 processes of mathematical literacy (Formulation, employ and interpreting), students with moderate abilities can formulate problems in mathematical form and use mathematical concepts for problem solving but are still wrong in doing calculations and unable to interpret the information contained in the table/diagram. Whereas for students with high initial mathematical performance, they can formulate everyday problems in mathematical representations, they can also use concepts, facts and procedures for problem solving but are not yet precise at the stage of interpreting and communicating in writing Keywords: mathematical literacy, initial mathematical performance.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpp.v14.i1.202446

Abstract: Prediction of Rasch Model’s Student Readiness Scores for Facing E-Learning Using Decision Tree and Ensemble Methods. Objective: This research aims to predict student readiness score in facing e-learning using Rasch models and machine learning. Methods: This research is a quantitative research using a non test instrument ini the form of a questionnaire using a Likert scale. The sample used were IPB University students. Analysis techniques use Rasch model, decision tree, and ensemble. Finding: Item reliability value is 0,93, person reliability value is 0,97, and cronbachalpha is 0,99. The standard deviation value is 2,34 and the average logit of respondents is 1,9. 34% of students have high readiness with a person measure value >2,34. 4% of students have moderate readiness with a score of 1,9 < person measure < 2,34. 62% of students have low readiness with a person measure value < 1,9. The accuracy of the decision tree model reached 75,97%. Conclusion: Based on person measure from the Rasch model, it can be concluded that the majority of respondents (62%) have low ability to carry out e-learning. Male students and those who have experience in dealing with e-learning have a higher percentage of having high ability in dealing with e-learning at the university level. Moreover, machine learning models are able to predict students' abilities in dealing with e-learning based on the measure score from the Rasch model. Furthermore, ensemble models are able to increase the accuracy of decision tree models. We found that the ensemble model with the LogitBoost (adaptive logistic regression) method provides best model in term of its accuracy (82.17%) and execution time. Keywords: decision tree, e-learning, ensemble, machine learning, rasch model.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpp.v14.i1.202437

Abstract

Abstract: Students' Conjectures on Open Classical Analogy Problem: Expanding or Narrowing?. Objectives: This study aims to describe students' mathematical conjecture in the context of open classical analogy problem. Methods: This descriptive research describes students' conjectural profiles using open classical analogies. Data were collected from the responses of 68 students. Data analyzed using constructor example, process, and quality of the conjecture. Findings: Results show that the example of constructing the conjecture has not paid attention to all possible cases, while the process of the conjecture used by students was from simple to more expanding or narrowing. Some of the proposed conjecture quality does not include the necessary constraints, and some include unnecessary limitations. Students can add to statements that sharpen the conjecture proposed previously. Conclusion: The results of this study indicate that in the construction of conjectures in the context of an open classical analogy, students involve their critical thinking skills. Keywords: conjecture, example, open classical analogy, process, quality of conjecture.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpp.v14.i1.202419
