Abstract

The use of Learning Media-Based Augmented Reality (AR) to Improving Integrated Science And Social Studies Literacy. This study aimed to explore the use of learning media-based Augmented Reality to enhance integrated science and social studies literacy in primary school. AR-based learning media was integrated into the IPAS subject. The participants in this study were 48 fifth-grade students from elementary schools, divided into experimental (24 students) and control groups (24 students). Each class employed a cooperative learning approach, with students in the experimental groups engaged in using AR-based learning media to support their learning process. The research method used was non-equivalent pretest-posttest design. The instruments used to test literacy skills (both pretest and posttest) consisted of 5 items. The results indicate a significant difference in the enhancement of students’ literacy skills in the experimental groups compared to the control group. This suggests that the use of the AR-based learning approach enhanced students’ literacy skills in the context of the IPAS subject. Keywords: ar learning media, ipas learning, science literacy, social studies literacy.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpp.v13.i3.202328

Abstract

Creating an optimal classroom environment that fosters reading comprehension is crucial for maximizing students' potential. This qualitative phenomenological study aims to explore the perspectives, challenges, and coping strategies of teachers in creating such an environment. The findings revealed that teachers perceived an optimal classroom environment for enhancing reading comprehension to encompass a conducive learning environment, enriched learning experiences, and environmental factors. Additionally, the study highlights that teachers face challenges such as limited resources, including funding, materials, and technology, as well as classroom conditions and infrastructure. Moreover, student factors, including low interest in reading, health issues, and absenteeism, add complexity to the challenge. To address these challenges, teachers employ coping strategies like differentiated instruction, resource utilization, improvisation, and seeking parental involvement. To ensure a conducive learning environment for reading comprehension, it is crucial to address resource limitations, improve classroom conditions and infrastructure, recognize student factors and engagement, and foster parental support. Keywords: reading comprehension, resource limitation, optimum classroom environment, Phenomenology, teachers challengesDOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpp.v13.i3.202303

Abstract

The objective of the research is to investigate the correlation between students’ perception on authentic materials and cooperative strategy on their reading achievement. Method: Three hypotheses were tested: a. perception on authentic materials and reading comprehension; b. perception on cooperative strategy and reading comprehension, and c. perception on authentic materials and cooperative strategy toward reading achievement. Findings: The reliability of reading test was rii = 0.96; perception on authentic materials was rii = 0.913; and that of the cooperative strategy was rii = 0.862. Conclusion: a. There is a positive correlation between perception on X1 and Y, Y = 11.046 + 0.270; X1 coefficient correlation r13 = 0.431. b. There is a significant effect of X2 on Y, Y = 11.350 + 0.625, X2 coefficient correlation r23 = 0.411. c. There is significant effect of X1 on X2, X1 = 5.314 + 0.974, X2 coefficient correlation r12 = 0.436.Keywords: authentic materials, cooperative strategy, comprehension achievement.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpp.v12.i2.202223

Abstract

The objective of this study is to assess the efficacy of LAPS-Heuristic learning, coupled with an Open-Ended instructional approach, in enhancing the critical thinking skills of seventh-grade students in a middle school setting. The research employs an experimental methodology with a quantitative framework, specifically utilizing a posttest-only control group design. The study participants consist of seventh-grade students from classes VII A and VII C at SMP MTs Muhammadiyah 1 Malang during the 2022/2023 academic year. Data collection is achieved through a written critical thinking skills assessment. Analysis of the critical thinking ability test results is conducted using the Independent Sample T-test. The findings reveal significant disparities in the critical thinking abilities of seventh-grade students between the experimental group utilizing LAPS-Heuristic learning with an Open-Ended approach and the control group employing conventional teaching methods. Thus, it can be concluded that LAPS-Heuristic learning, when combined with an Open-Ended approach, proves to be an effective strategy for enhancing students' critical thinking skills. Keywords: critical thinking, open-ended, laps-heuristic.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpp.v13.i3.202319

Abstract

Effectiveness of the School Literacy Movement Program: An Impact Study Usiang the Kirkpatrick Model in Kuningan Regency. Objective: This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of the School Literacy Movement program at the junior high school level in Kuningan Regency, West Java, in response to the province’s low literacy index (39.47% in 2019) and alarming literacy scores in the 2022 Education Report. The evaluation applies the Kirkpatrick Model across four levels: reaction, learning, behavioral change, and final outcomes. Method: The study employs a sequential exploratory mixed methods design. The initial phase involved qualitative data collection through interviews, observations, and document analysis to explore the implementation of School Literacy Movement and the contextual factors influencing its effectiveness. The qualitative findings informed the development of a quantitative instrument, which was distributed to students using purposive sampling in schools with active Guru Penggerak (Education Reform Teachers). Quantitative data were analyzed using path analysis to examine direct and indirect relationships among variables such as literacy comprehension, reading habits, social interaction, school climate, and character development. Integration of qualitative and quantitative data occurred during the interpretation phase to enhance the validity and depth of findings. Findings: The GLS program significantly improved students' literacy comprehension and reading habits. Teacher-student relationships (KHGdS) and peer interactions (HSASD) had a significant positive effect on character development (p = 0.007 and p < 0.001). However, experiences of bullying (FPp) negatively affected the school safety climate (KIKS), although they still influenced student character (p < 0.001). Conclusion: The GLS program is effective in enhancing literacy and character among students. However, creating a safe and supportive school environment remains a critical challenge. This study highlights the need to integrate literacy efforts with emotionally responsive policies, teacher capacity-building, and holistic approaches that prioritize student well-being. Keywords: program evaluation, school literacy movement, kirkpatrick, reading culture, student literacy.
