Abstract

Media Content Preferences and Perceptions Towards Dominant Value Orientations in Media Among Pre-Service Teachers. Objective: The purpose of this study was to determine the media content preferences and the perceptions towards dominant value orientations in media. Methods: This research employed a quantitative research design through the use of an online survey technique. Findings: The findings showed that there are gender differences in relation to the pre-service teachers' thematic content preferences. In terms of the preferable television program content and the gender of pre-service teachers, it revealed a statistically significant difference. A positive and negative correlation was also shown between the pre-service teachers' viewing habits and their perceptions of dominant values that are presented in various television programs, and in the pre-service teachers' preferences for music genres and the values promoted in several music videos. Conclusion: The findings in this study indicate that the media content preferences of pre-service teachers differ from their perception of media values.  Keywords: media content preferences, perceptions, value orientations.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpp.v13.i2.202315

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effect on the systematic reasoning capacity of elementary mathematics students of the Project-Based Learning (PjBL) model. The study consisted in a quasi-experimental design with an experimental group applying PjBL and a control group using conventional methods. Purposive sampling enabled participants to be chosen from several elementary schools. The Minimum Competency Assessment guided the method of data collecting by means of a systematic thinking skills test. The test consisted in essay questions covering students's capacity to identify patterns, develop plans, investigate conceptual links, and evaluate approaches of problem-solving. An observation notebook was also used to document student participation and activity all through the learning process. Among other statistical tests, paired and independent t-tests let one compare the pretest and posttest scores. From the data, higher posttest scores and statistically significant deviations exposed that students in the PjBL group showed a rather better improvement in systematic thinking than the control group. Additionally, the observation data demonstrated that PjBL students utilized analytical and reflective thought during the project operations, actively participated in peer-based conversations, and increased their participation. Through their connection between mathematical ideas and practical problems, these learning opportunities helped students to develop their structured thinking and evaluation skills. By providing contextual, meaningful, and cooperative learning, the results imply that PjBL is efficient in the evolution of higher-order thinking. In order to improve students' systematic thinking a ability necessary for both academic success and practical problem-solving teachers are therefore advised to include PjBL into mathematics education. Keywords: project-based learning, systematic thinking, mathematics learning.

Abstract

Evaluating the Quality of Archival Learning Programs Using the CIPP Model: A Case Study at SMK Negeri 9 Semarang. Objective: This study seeks to examine the evaluation of learning in the independent curriculum by applying the context, input, process, and product models. The Office Management and Business Services expertise program at SMK Negeri 9 Semarang has a subject, namely the sub-element of archive storage procedures, which has used the independent curriculum. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to evaluate the learning program using the CIPP Model. Methods: This study used a qualitative method design with 11 informants consisting of 2 teachers and 9 students. Furthermore, a content analysis was conducted by analyzing the curriculum content based on the construction of the CIPP model. Findings: In terms of context, archiving is embodied in the elements of archive management and focuses on practice, archiving is important in the Office Management and Business Services skill program, and there is no E-Archive training. Input aspects, teachers prepare teaching modules, students prepare learning materials, learning facilities are not optimal, PBL and PjBL learning models. Process aspect, learning for 3 hours and found obstacles. Product aspect, students practiced archive storage simulation. Conclusion: This study concludes that the implementation of learning the sub-element of archive storage procedures based on the independent curriculum is quite good, so it recommends that further research be carried out in various aspects of education, continuous and comprehensive evaluation, and development of archival learning content. Keywords: learning evaluation, CIPP model, archives, independent curriculum.

Abstract

Relevance of Technical and Vocational Education and Training in the Employability of Computer Science Graduates. Objectives: A study was conducted to determine the relevance of Technical Education and Skills Development National Certification in relation to the employment/employability of computer science graduates of Eastern Samar State University, Philippines. Methods: A descriptive-correlational design was used and data was analyzed through mean, frequency and percentage distribution. A null hypothesis was tested using Cramer’s V association method to determine if there exist a correlation. Findings: The results showed that most graduates were employed, a significant number were National Certificate II (NC II) competency test passers, and many considered "not being prepared" as the major hindrance for not taking the said exam. Conclusion: the majority of graduates found NC II to be important in securing their current job and Cramer’s V score showed strong correlation and rejected the null hypothesis. Based on these findings, it is recommended that efforts to improve graduates' preparation for NC II exams should be continued or even intensified. Keywords: tvet, tesda, skills training, national skill’s certification, employability, computer science.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpp.v13.i2.202338
