Abstract

This research explores the constructive theology of suffering within social and religious contexts, aiming to develop a contemporary understanding of suffering from a Christian perspective. Utilizing a qualitative methodology, the study draws on biblical texts and relevant literature, employing both constructive and systematic theological approaches. The findings reveal that suffering, often associated with sin and its consequences, is a complex phenomenon encompassing personal, social, and spiritual dimensions. The research examines various theological perspectives on suffering and investigates the concept of suffering within social contexts. Ultimately, the study proposes a framework for a constructive theology of suffering, drawing on biblical narratives, particularly the book of Job, and the example of Jesus Christ's suffering. This framework emphasizes the potential for suffering to deepen one's relationship with God, foster moral reflection, and strengthen social bonds. The conclusion highlights that a constructive theology of suffering offers a transformative perspective on this challenging human experience, underscoring its potential for spiritual growth, character development, and social solidarity.

Abstract

This study analyzes the concept of “God’s Love in Healing,” highlighting how God’s love is manifested through gifts and grace experienced by believers. The background of this research addresses ongoing doubts and diverse perspectives among Christians regarding the reality of healing gifts in the present era, as well as the need for a more holistic understanding of the integration between religious experience and empirical evidence in the healing process. Employing a qualitative method with descriptive analysis and literature review, this research combines theological sources (the Bible, theological books) and empirical studies from relevant journals. The findings reveal that God’s love in healing is not limited to physical recovery but also encompasses spiritual, mental, and social dimensions. The gift of healing, as described in 1 Corinthians 12:9, is a manifestation of God’s love that can be experienced by every believer according to His sovereignty, both through miracles and medical interventions. God’s grace serves as the primary foundation in the entire healing process, where the experience of healing often leads to transformation of faith, character, and social relationships. Thus, the experience of healing for believers is an integral part of God’s love that is real and relevant in daily life, providing hope and strength for Christian communities amid the challenges of the modern era.

Abstract

This study evaluates the relationship between postcolonial theory and theology, highlighting how colonial power structures still shape theological narratives in the postcolonial context. Postcolonial theology not only revises traditional approaches to sacred texts but also dismantles the hegemonic relations that construct epistemological hierarchies in religious discourse. Using a literature review method, this study analyzes how the concept of postcolonialism operates at three levels of theology: faith theology (first-order theology), deliberative theology (second-order theology), and academic theology (third-order theology). The results of this study found that the construction of the relationship between theology and postcolonialism moves in three reflective layers. First, theology that is inherent in the individual, namely the experience of faith formed in the body and consciousness of the individual, often contains hidden and real colonial traces. Second, theology that is reflected on in the community (church), as a space for sharing experiences and building a collective narrative that is able to treat historical wounds and fight for recovery. Third, theology that is discussed academically, namely a reflective-critical effort to challenge, dismantle, and reconstruct theological discourse through a cross-contextual approach and decolonial awareness.

Abstract

Conflict within the church community is a historical reality that has existed since the early church, as depicted in 1 Corinthians 1:10-17. In the context of the modern church, conflict resolution is often approached pragmatically, emphasizing interpersonal techniques. Previous studies have not thoroughly examined the rhetorical structure and theological dimensions of 1 Corinthians 1:10-17 within an expository framework that centers God as the primary subject of church unity restoration. This article offers a theocentric approach as a new contribution that places God at the center of church unity. The purpose of this study is to examine 1 Corinthians 1:10-17 through exposition to formulate a paradigm for resolving contemporary church conflicts. Using a qualitative method through expository text analysis based on literature review, the results show that Paul's argumentative structure progressively affirms that church reconciliation can only occur if it is rooted in God's authority and initiative in the cross of Christ.

Abstract

The debate over the shape of the Earth, whether spherical or flat, has remained a subject of continuous discussion in many fields, including theology. This study seeks to analyze the biblical portrayal of the Earth's shape in Old Testament writings, particularly through a hermeneutical approach combining historical-critical analysis and semantic study of key Hebrew terms such as ḥug and raqia. The research adopts a qualitative method grounded in literature review, using the Bible as the primary source and supplemented by references from biblical theology and ancient cosmology. The findings indicate that Old Testament cosmology consistently portrays the Earth as a fixed entity surrounded by a dome-shaped firmament, with the separation of waters above and below. These results suggest that, within the cultural and faith context of ancient Israel, the flat-earth model served as the conceptual framework shaping theological understandings of creation. This research is expected to enrich theological and hermeneutical discourse on biblical cosmology while offering a fresh perspective for dialogue between faith and science.

Abstract

The doctrine of the Trinity is one of the most fundamental teachings in Christianity, but also the most difficult to understand rationally. How can the One God be simultaneously three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit? This question has been a long debate, both among philosophers, theologians, and critics of other religions. At first glance, this concept seems to contradict the law of non-contradiction in classical logic, which states that something cannot be "one" and "three" in the same sense and at the same time. However, is it true that the doctrine of the Trinity violates the principle of rationality, or is there another way to understand this concept logically? This article examines the Trinity from a theological and philosophical perspective, exploring the various approaches used to explain how three divine persons remain in one and the same essence without losing their uniqueness. By analyzing models of thought such as the Social Trinity, the Latin Trinity, and contemporary analytical approaches, this journal attempts to show that the doctrine of the Trinity is not just an irrational dogma, but has a strong rational basis. A correct understanding of the Trinity is not only relevant in academic discussions, but also plays an important role in growing faith, strengthening belief in the true God, and shaping spiritual growth based on sound teaching.

Abstract

This article discusses the role of the Holy Spirit in the ministry of God's servants based on 1 Thessalonians 1:4–10 and its impact on the growth of the congregation's faith. Genuine ministry cannot be separated from the presence and work of the Holy Spirit, as the Spirit provides power, conviction, and exemplary character in service. The purpose of this study is to analyze in depth how the role of the Holy Spirit is manifested in the ministry of God’s servants and its effect on the quality of the congregation’s spiritual growth. The method used is qualitative with a descriptive-analytical approach, focusing on literature review and conceptual analysis based on relevant theological and practical sources. The analysis shows that the Holy Spirit plays a central role in equipping and guiding ministers, so that the ministry becomes not only informative but also transformative. When ministry is carried out in dependence on the Holy Spirit, the congregation experiences true spiritual growth through life transformation, faithfulness in following Christ, and perseverance in hope. In conclusion, the role of the Holy Spirit in ministry is essential for the growth of the congregation’s faith. The contemporary church must emphasize the active involvement of the Holy Spirit in every aspect of ministry in order to produce spiritually mature believers who grow in faith and become more like Christ.
