Abstract

General Background: Staphylococcus aureus pneumonia remains a major global health concern due to its virulence, biofilm formation, and rising methicillin-resistant strains, which complicate treatment. Specific Background: Understanding the interplay between humoral and cellular immunity is crucial for designing effective interventions, as both antibody-mediated and T-cell–mediated responses contribute to pathogen clearance. Knowledge Gap: While immune evasion strategies of S. aureus are documented, quantitative insights into the temporal dynamics of antibody production, T-cell proliferation, and cytokine release during infection are limited. Aims: This study aimed to evaluate the kinetics of humoral and cellular immune responses in a rat model of S. aureus pneumonia. Results: Infected rats exhibited significantly elevated IgM and IgG levels, with IgM peaking at day 14 and IgG progressively increasing. Splenocyte proliferation and cytokine production (IFN-γ, IL-4) were markedly enhanced, particularly at day 21, indicating strong Th1 and Th2 activation. Novelty: The study provides an integrated temporal profile of dual-arm immunity in experimental S. aureus pneumonia, demonstrating concurrent robust humoral and cellular activation. Implications: These findings highlight the necessity of targeting both antibody and T-cell responses in vaccine design, potentially guiding the development of immunotherapies for effective prevention and treatment of S. aureus pneumonia.Highlight : IgM peaked on day 14, while IgG continued to rise until the end of the study. Splenocyte proliferation indicated strong T cell activation. Th1 and Th2 responses worked together to eliminate S. aureus from the lungs. Abstract

Abstract — General Background: Emesis gravidarum is one of the most common early pregnancy symptoms, influenced by hormonal, psychosocial, nutritional, and maternal factors. Specific Background: Psychological distress, particularly anxiety, is believed to exacerbate nausea and vomiting during pregnancy, but evidence in the Indonesian context remains limited. Knowledge Gap: Previous studies have not sufficiently explored the association between maternal anxiety and the severity of emesis gravidarum in first-trimester pregnancies using validated tools. Aims: This study aimed to examine the relationship between maternal anxiety levels and the severity of emesis gravidarum. Results: An analytic survey with a cross-sectional design was conducted among 30 first-trimester pregnant women selected by quota sampling. Data were collected using the Depression Anxiety Stress Scale (DASS) and PUQE-24 questionnaire. Fisher’s Exact Test revealed a significant association (p = 0.006 < α = 0.05) between maternal anxiety levels and emesis gravidarum severity. Novelty: This study provides empirical evidence on the role of psychological status, particularly anxiety, in influencing emesis gravidarum symptoms among Indonesian primigravida. Implications: The findings suggest the importance of early screening and anxiety management interventions by healthcare providers to prevent worsening conditions such as hyperemesis gravidarum. Highlights: Anxiety severity is significantly linked to emesis gravidarum levels. Primigravida mothers are more vulnerable to moderate nausea and vomiting. Early anxiety management may reduce the risk of hyperemesis gravidarum. Keywords: Emesis Gravidarum, Anxiety, DASS, PUQE-24, Pregnancy

Abstract

General Background: Early marriage remains a significant public health and social issue, often occurring before individuals reach the legal minimum age. Specific Background: Internal determinants, particularly knowledge, individual education, and parental education, have been cited as factors influencing early marriage, yet empirical evidence is still inconsistent. Knowledge Gap: Limited studies in Indonesia have explored which internal factors have the strongest association with early marriage practices. Aims: This study aimed to analyze the relationship between internal factors and early marriage in Curahkalong village, Jember district. Results: A cross-sectional analytic study was conducted with 38 married women selected by purposive sampling. Data were collected using questionnaires and analyzed with the Chi-square test at a significance level of α < 0.05. Findings showed a significant relationship between parental education and early marriage (p = 0.003), while no significant relationship was found for individual knowledge (p = 1.000) or respondent education (p = 0.180). Novelty: This research highlights parental education as the primary internal factor related to early marriage, while individual knowledge and education were not significant predictors. Implications: The findings suggest that parental involvement and educational background are critical in preventing early marriage, emphasizing the need for family-based reproductive health education programs. Highlights: Parental education strongly correlates with early marriage. Individual knowledge shows no significant association. Family-based interventions are essential for prevention. Abstract

General Background: Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a chronic metabolic disorder affecting millions worldwide, often linked to impaired insulin secretion or function. Specific Background: Dyslipidemia and hyperuricemia are frequent metabolic disturbances in DM, and body mass index (BMI) is commonly used to assess nutritional status, yet its role in predicting cholesterol and uric acid levels among DM patients remains unclear. Knowledge Gap: While previous studies suggest possible associations, evidence on whether BMI significantly correlates with cholesterol and uric acid in DM is inconsistent. Aim: This study investigated the relationship between BMI and cholesterol and uric acid levels in DM patients. Results: A cross-sectional study of 30 respondents at Anna Medika Madura General Hospital used CHOD-PAP and Uricase-PAP methods, showing cholesterol levels ranging 136–278 mg/dl, uric acid 3.4–12.1 mg/dl, and BMI 18.0–34.5 kg/m². Statistical analysis (Chi-square, p > 0.05) indicated no significant association between BMI and cholesterol or uric acid. Novelty: This study emphasizes that BMI alone is insufficient to predict lipid and uric acid abnormalities in DM patients. Implications: Findings highlight the need for comprehensive metabolic assessment beyond BMI for effective DM management. Highlights: No significant link between BMI and cholesterol or uric acid in DM. BMI values ranged from normal to obese, but metabolic changes varied. Clinical monitoring of DM requires broader parameters beyond BMI. Keywords: Diabetes Mellitus, Body Mass Index, Cholesterol, Uric Acid, Cross-Sectional Study

Abstract

Radiation therapy, a cornerstone of cancer treatment, is associated with various physical and psychological side effects that can significantly impair a patient's quality of life (QOL). This study aimed to assess the impact of anxiety and depression on the quality of life of cancer patients undergoing radiotherapy. A prospective descriptive quantitative study was conducted on a non-probability convenience sample of 81 patients at the Center of Oncology and Blood Diseases in Karbala City. The European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer Quality of Life Questionnaire (EORTC QLQ-C30) was used to measure quality of life. The Wilcoxon Signed-Ranks Test was applied to examine differences in QOL. The study found that anxiety and depression levels significantly and negatively impacted the overall quality of life of patients during radiotherapy (p < 0.05). Furthermore, a significant statistical difference was observed in the QOL levels with regard to tumor metastasis (p < 0.05), with patients experiencing metastasis reporting lower QOL. The findings indicate that radiation therapy and its associated psychological distress, particularly in the presence of tumor metastasis, are significant determinants of reduced quality of life in cancer patients. These results underscore the importance of integrating psychological and social support into clinical oncology care to improve patient well-being. Highlights: Anxiety and depression significantly impair quality of life during radiotherapy. Metastatic tumors are linked to lower quality of life. Sociodemographic factors show minimal influence compared to clinical and psychological factors.
