Abstract

This study highlights the implementation of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) in improving critical and creative thinking skills through a Systematic Literature Review (SLR). Data were obtained from 59 Scopus-indexed articles published between 2015 and 2025, with 20 articles meeting relevance criteria for early childhood education (ECE) and secondary education levels worldwide. The data analysis protocol followed PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) to ensure systematic and transparent literature selection. The findings indicate that CBC has a significant positive impact on critical and creative thinking skills, especially when active and contextual learning strategies are implemented. Strategies such as project-based learning, inquiry-based learning, problem-solving in science, reflective writing, and local culture-based media have proven effective in stimulating higher-order cognition and student creativity. However, the effectiveness of CBC faces systemic and philosophical challenges, including unprepared teacher competency, a lack of valid assessment instruments, and the risk of material shallowing due to an excessive focus on procedural skills. Based on these findings, it is recommended that policymakers prioritize teacher training and strengthening authentic assessment, while researchers are advised to conduct longitudinal studies to assess the long-term impact of the CBC and develop standardized assessment models that can be widely applied in schools.

Abstract

The rapid transformation of the modern world requires early childhood education (ECE) to go beyond basic value transmission by equipping children with visionary and creative thinking skills. This study aims to examine the influence of integrating language and literature-based futurology into the development of an Islamic early childhood education curriculum as a projection of future-oriented education. A quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design was employed, involving two groups: experimental and control, each comprising 20 children aged 5–6 years in Medan Sunggal District. Data were collected through pretests, posttests, structured observations, and teacher questionnaires, and analyzed using independent t-tests. The results indicate that the experimental group experienced significant improvements in language development, imagination, and Islamic spiritual values compared to the control group (p < 0.05). Additionally, the study found increased empathy and social interaction among children in the experimental group, although this was not a primary research focus. These findings suggest that an Islamic ECE curriculum integrated with language and literature-based futurology can serve as a strategic innovation in addressing the challenges of 21st-century education.

Abstract

Adolescence is a critical period in psychological development characterized by physical and social changes and the formation of self-identity. During this phase, physical activity, body image, and self-esteem are interrelated factors that play a role in determining students’ psychological well-being. This study aims to analyze the relationship between physical activity, body image, and self-esteem and to examine the role of body image as a mediating variable. This study employs a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design. The sample consists of 400 high school students in Makassar City selected using proportionate stratified random sampling. Data were collected using the International Physical Activity Questionnaire-Short Form (IPAQ-SF), the Body Esteem Scale for Adolescents and Adults (BESAA), and the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSES). Data analysis was conducted using Pearson’s correlation and regression analysis with bootstrapping mediation testing. The results of the study indicate that physical activity is positively associated with body image (r = 0.489; p < 0.01) and self-esteem (r = 0.421; p < 0.01). Body image is also positively associated with self-esteem (r = 0.597; p < 0.01). Furthermore, body image was found to act as a partial mediator in the relationship between physical activity and self-esteem, with a significant indirect effect (? = 0.224; p < 0.001). In conclusion, physical activity contributes to improved body image and self-esteem among students, both directly and indirectly through body image as a mediator. These findings underscore the importance of physical activity in supporting adolescents’ psychological health in the school setting.

Abstract

This study aims to construct, validate, and test the effectiveness of a speed training model based on the needs of karate competitions to increase the punching and kicking speed of karate athletes aged 15–17 years. The study used a Research and Development (R&D) method that adapted the steps of Borg and Gall, including needs analysis, model development, expert validation, revision, and effectiveness testing. The needs analysis was conducted through match observations, coach interviews, training program analysis, and literature review to identify the demands of modern kumite competitions. The developed model integrates movement speed and reaction speed components designed according to the characteristics of karate competitions. Validation involved sports coaching experts, karate experts, and movement learning experts. The effectiveness testing used a one-group pretest–posttest design on 65 karate athletes in the kumite category from the INKANAS Dojo in Bone Regency and Makassar City. The results showed that the developed model met the valid criteria and was feasible to be applied in the training process. The effectiveness test results showed a significant increase in the speed of athletes' punches and kicks, indicated by a decrease in the average time from 0.8161 seconds in the pretest to 0.4398 seconds in the posttest (t = 65.240; p < 0.001). These findings indicate that the competition-based training model is able to effectively improve speed performance and provides an alternative coaching approach that is more specific and relevant to the demands of modern kumite competitions.

Abstract

Edu-ecotourism in the context of science learning is an educational approach that integrates the concept of ecotourism into the learning process, which offers an effective way to teach science material contextually, experience-based, and relevant to everyday life and can instill an attitude of caring for the environment around students, so that learning becomes more enjoyable and meaningful. However, the fact in the field is that there are still many schools that have not been able to implement edu-ecotourism-based science learning due to various obstacles including the availability of edu-ecotourism-based teaching materials and the lack of teacher knowledge about edu-ecotourism. From previous research, researchers have developed ecotourism/ethnoscience-based science teaching materials that connect community knowledge of the cultural products of the Sasak, Samawa and Mbojo tribes with chemistry or science materials, but have not been widely implemented in schools. Based on the role of edu-ecotourism in the context of science learning in schools is very important, the implementation of ecotourism-based science teaching materials is necessary. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to analyze the implementation of ecotourism-based science teaching materials at SMPN East Lombok Regency. This study uses a qualitative descriptive approach to describe the existing phenomena in depth regarding the implementation of ecotourism-based science teaching materials at SMPN East Lombok Regency, including the obstacles faced by teachers and students, as well as the learning experiences of students obtained after the learning. The research instrument was the research team with the help of questionnaires, observation sheets and interview guidelines. Quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and qualitative data were analyzed using an interactive model. The implementation of ecotourism-based science teaching materials went very well and was received positively by the majority of teachers. A total of 45 teachers actively tried to use at least two of the five teaching materials socialized in their classroom learning. The results of in-depth interviews with 15 teachers stated that the teaching materials used helped them bridge the gap between the theory in textbooks and the reality that exists in the students' environment. Teachers felt that abstract science concepts became easier for students to understand when they saw their direct application in their culture and local wisdom.

Abstract

This study analyzes the implementation of dual literacy for educators through English upskilling strategies and digital competence development at SDIT Visi Mulia Islamic School in relation to Permendikdasmen No. 21 of 2025. The study is based on the growing demand for 21st-century education, which requires teachers to possess digital literacy and English proficiency in order to support innovative and globally competitive learning. Dual literacy, consisting of digital literacy and English language competence, has become an essential component in improving teacher professionalism and strengthening students’ global competencies. The research employed a qualitative descriptive approach using a case study design. Data were collected through classroom observations, in-depth interviews, and documentation involving school leaders, teachers, and school management. The findings revealed that the implementation of dual literacy was carried out systematically through digital skills training, English for Teachers programs, bilingual learning practices, and the integration of technology into classroom instruction. Teachers demonstrated increased confidence in using digital tools and English communication in learning activities. Students also showed higher engagement, improved participation in digital-based learning, and greater willingness to use simple English expressions in classroom interaction. However, several challenges were identified, including unequal teacher competencies, limited digital infrastructure, and time constraints for professional development activities. Overall, the study concludes that the successful implementation of dual literacy is strongly influenced by the synergy between government policy, school innovation, and teacher motivation in creating adaptive, innovative, and globally competitive Islamic education.

Abstract

This study investigates the preventive efforts of Aqidah Akhlak teachers in addressing student delinquency at MTs Nururrodhiyah Jambi City. Employing a qualitative descriptive approach, data were collected through interviews, observation, and documentation involving the school principal, Aqidah Akhlak teachers, and grade IX students. The findings reveal that most students have internalized positive moral values, though a minority continued to engage in delinquent behaviors, including smoking, truancy, tardiness, fighting, and classroom disruption. The Aqidah Akhlak teacher implemented multidimensional preventive strategies encompassing professional self-development, enrichment of pedagogical knowledge, enhancement of teaching skills, reinforcement of student discipline, motivational guidance, and systematic awareness-raising regarding the consequences of delinquency. Supporting factors include teacher certification pathways, a conducive school environment, and adequate facilities, while inhibiting factors involve qualification mismatches, limited monitoring of external social environments, and insufficient family reinforcement. By the conclusion of the study, repeat incidents of delinquency had declined markedly among grade IX students, affirming the significant role of the Aqidah Akhlak teacher in Islamic character education.

Abstract

This study examined the forms, contributing factors, and administrators' strategies for addressing student misconduct at Pondok Pesantren Assalam Al-Islami, Sungai Lilin, Musi Banyuasin, focusing on smoking and absence from congregational prayer. Using a qualitative case study design, data were collected through in-depth interviews, field observation, and a four-month institutional violation log, then analysed using the interactive model of data condensation, display, and conclusion verification, with credibility established through triangulation. Findings showed 47 documented violations among 37 santri, comprising prayer absenteeism (70.2 %) and smoking (29.8 %), shaped by internal factors, peer influence, family habits, and supervisory gaps within the pesantren. Administrators responded through a structured cycle of planning, organizing, directing, controlling, and evaluation, combining preventive supervision, a staged warning system, parental involvement, and educative-restorative sanctions rather than punishment alone. The system, however, remained constrained by limited personnel. These findings indicate that effective management of student misconduct in pesantren settings requires aligning disciplinary strategy with adequate supervisory capacity.

Abstract

Although grammatical competence is widely recognized as an important contributor to reading comprehension in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) context, previous studies have reported inconsistent findings regarding the effectiveness of grammar-based instruction. Moreover, limited research has simultaneously examined reading outcomes and learners’ affective responses, particularly in Indonesian higher education settings. Addressing this gap, this study investigated the impact of grammar-based instruction on EFL learners’ reading comprehension and explored their perceptions, motivation, and engagement toward this instructional approach. The novelty of this study lies in its integrated examination of cognitive and affective dimensions of grammar-based instruction within an Indonesian EFL context. A mixed-methods design was employed, combining a one-group pretest–posttest procedure with questionnaire and semi-structured interview data. The participants were 31 third-semester undergraduate students enrolled in a Reading course at the English Education Department of Universitas Muhammadiyah Pringsewu, Indonesia. Quantitative findings revealed a mean score gain of 5.16 points; however, the improvement was not statistically significant (t(30) = 2.03, p = .051). Nevertheless, a small-to-medium effect size (Cohen’s d = 0.37) indicated practical educational value. Qualitative findings generated four themes: perceived cognitive benefits of grammar-based instruction, mixed motivational and engagement responses, cognitive challenges associated with grammar processing, and learners’ preference for contextualized and multimodal grammar instruction. The findings suggest that grammar-based instruction can support EFL reading development when integrated with meaningful reading activities, differentiated according to learners’ proficiency levels, and supported through contextualized and technology-enhanced learning environments.

Abstract

The study examines the reconstruction of wasiat wajibah (mandatory bequest) within the Compilation of Islamic Law (KHI) as a legal mechanism for strengthening the protection of out-of-wedlock children in Indonesia. The research employs a qualitative socio-legal approach through document analysis and in-depth interviews with Religious Court judges to explore contemporary judicial developments, constitutional principles, and Islamic legal objectives relevant to inheritance rights. The findings indicate that the current formulation of Article 209 KHI, which limits wasiat wajibah to adopted children and adoptive parents, is no longer sufficient to accommodate contemporary legal realities and the increasing recognition of children's rights. Judicial practice demonstrates a progressive expansion of wasiat wajibah beneficiaries beyond the categories explicitly regulated in the KHI, including non-Muslim relatives, stepchildren, legally excluded heirs, and out-of-wedlock children. These developments reflect a growing emphasis on substantive justice, social welfare, and child protection within Indonesian Islamic family law. The study further reveals that judges generally support legal reforms aimed at protecting the economic interests of out-of-wedlock children, provided that such reforms remain consistent with the fundamental principles of Islamic inheritance law. Based on these findings, the study proposes the reconstruction of Article 209 KHI by explicitly recognizing the right of out-of-wedlock children who can legally establish a biological relationship with the deceased to receive wasiat wajibah not exceeding one-third of the inheritance estate. The proposed reconstruction is grounded in constitutional guarantees of child protection, the principle of non-discrimination, the best interests of the child, and the objectives of Islamic law (maq??id al-shar?‘ah), particularly the protection of lineage (?if? al-nasl), property (?if? al-m?l), and public welfare (ma?la?ah). The study concludes that reformulating Article 209 KHI would enhance legal certainty, promote substantive justice, and strengthen the legal protection of out-of-wedlock children while preserving the normative foundations of Islamic inheritance law.
