Abstract

Witnessing in marriage is a fundamental aspect of Islamic law intended to ensure the validity of the marriage contract. Islamic Sharia requires that witnesses meet the standard of ?ad?lah (justice), referring to individuals with moral integrity who are not known for committing major sins. However, in social practice, this requirement is often neglected, with witnesses chosen based on familial proximity or administrative convenience rather than adherence to Sharia's standards of justice. This study aims to analyze the application of the justice standard for witnesses in Islamic law, identify the factors contributing to its neglect, and examine the legal and social implications for marriage. Employing library research and a normative approach, the study investigates scriptural evidences, scholarly opinions, and social phenomena related to marriage witnessing. The findings reveal that the disregard for justice standards in appointing witnesses can lead to the invalidity of marriage under Islamic law and contribute to the shifting meaning of witnesses in social practice. This phenomenon may also give rise to future legal disputes, such as challenges to the validity of the marriage or the legal status of children born from such unions. Therefore, there is an urgent need to strengthen religious understanding and enforce stricter regulations in the appointment of witnesses to uphold the integrity of Islamic legal principles in marriage. Abstract

This paper is a hermeneutic study of the prayer taught by Jesus to His disciples based on the Gospel of Matthew 6:5-15. The main question in this study is how was the model of prayer taught by Jesus to his disciples? According to Matthew, this prayer formula was given by Jesus on His own initiative after He criticized the wrong understanding and practice of prayer among Judaism. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach, where the data obtained is in the form of explanations of concepts or texts and not numbers. These data were obtained from literature studies, especially through exegetical studies of Bible manuscripts. The analysis concludes that Jesus provided a new paradigm of prayer through the Lord's Prayer as a model of prayer for His disciples. The prayer model includes several essential elements, starting from the prayer address, worship, petition and doxology. The end of this study is a conclusion about how God's servants should follow the way of prayer taught by Jesus, especially the simple but clear and concise prayer pattern, which consists of the prayer address, worship, petition and doxology.

Abstract

This study examines women's rights in marriage through a critical review of Islamic legal literature and international human rights instruments. Employing a library research method, it analyzes classical Islamic sources such as fiqh and tafsir, alongside contemporary literature including academic journals and human rights reports. The findings reveal that Islamic law provides a normative foundation for women’s marital rights—such as the right to maintenance, fair treatment, education, and divorce—yet their realization is often constrained by patriarchal biases in classical interpretations. Meanwhile, international conventions such as CEDAW emphasize the necessity of gender equality and non-discrimination, urging a more inclusive reconstruction of family law. This study recommends an integrative approach between Islamic values and human rights principles to support family law reform that is just and responsive to the needs of women.
