Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of music-based warm-up modifications on students' active participation in Physical Education learning at Public Senior High School 16 Bandung. Music-based warm-up was chosen because music has been proven to improve mood, foster enthusiasm, and reduce student boredom. The background of the study stems from the problem of low student participation in Physical Education learning due to monotonous and less varied teaching methods. This study used an experimental method with a one-group pretest-posttest design. The research sample was 204 grade XII students selected using a simple random sampling technique. The research instrument was a student active participation questionnaire compiled based on Keith Davis's theory, supplemented by observation and documentation sheets. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test through SPSS 16.0 for Windows. The results showed a significant difference between the pretest and posttest scores, where the majority of students experienced an increase in active participation after being given music-based warm-up treatment. These findings indicate that music-based warm-up can create a pleasant learning atmosphere, meet students' psychological needs, and increase their intrinsic motivation. Thus, this innovative learning strategy can be an effective alternative to improve the quality of PE learning in secondary schools and encourage more optimal student involvement.

Abstract

Rowing athlete performance is greatly influenced by aerobic capacity, explosive strength, and precise technical coordination. One strategy widely used to support performance improvement is altitude training, namely training in hypoxic conditions through the Live High-Train Low (LHTL), Live High-Train High (LHTH), and Intermittent Hypoxic Training (IHT) methods. Hypoxic exposure is believed to stimulate an increase in erythropoietin (EPO), which in turn increases hemoglobin (Hb), hematocrit (Hct), and total hemoglobin mass (Hbmass), thereby optimizing the body's oxygen transport capacity. This study aims to systematically examine the effect of altitude training on blood components and the performance of elite rowing athletes. The study was conducted using a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach based on the PRISMA 2020 guidelines. Data sources were obtained through the Publish or Perish tool with a publication year range of 2015–2025, and inclusion criteria focused on Randomized Controlled Trial (RCT) studies examining the effects of altitude training on elite rowing athletes. The results of the analysis showed that the LHTL method with a duration of 3–4 weeks and hypoxic exposure of ≥12 hours per day provided a significant increase in Hb, Hct, Hbmass, as well as aerobic capacity such as VO₂max and peak power output. However, there are variations in individual responses between "responders" and "non-responders," as well as differences in study design that cause the results to be inconsistent. Factors such as training intensity, initial fitness status, and nutritional support also influence the effectiveness of the intervention. Therefore, it can be concluded that altitude training has the potential to be an effective strategy to improve the performance of rowing athletes through hematological and physiological adaptations, with LHTL as the most promising method. This research is expected to provide theoretical contributions to the development of sports coaching science as well as practical recommendations for coaches and federations in developing evidence-based training programs.

Abstract

The aim of this study is to examine the effect of motivational self-talk on the anxiety level of short-distance and middle-distance runners. Anxiety, as experienced by the players, particularly before competitions, can have a negative influence on their performance. Motivational self-talk is a psychological intervention technique used to enhance concentration, build self-confidence, and reduce competitive anxiety. The design of the study utilized in this case was a one-group pretest-posttest quasi-experimental study. The sample consisted of 29 athletes from Sekolah Atletik Pajajaran Bandung, who were short-distance and middle-distance runners. Anxiety was quantified using the Sport Anxiety Scale-2 (SAS-2). Treatment was a motivational self-talk training package that was presented in 12 sessions and included the skills of countering, reframing, and affirming. Paired sample t-test of the data showed that motivational self-talk reduced the anxiety level of short-distance (p < 0.05) and middle-distance runners (p < 0.05). The results of the independent sample t-test showed no significant difference between the two groups (p > 0.05), which meant that motivational self-talk affected both of them equally. The study concludes that motivational self-talk reduces anxiety in short- and middle-distance runners and is recommended to be included in general athlete training programs.

Abstract

This study examines the relationship between Physical Literacy (PL) and mental well-being among university students, with physical activity functioning as a mediating variable through the Embodied Cognition framework. A cross-sectional study was conducted with 195 active students from the Faculty of Sports and Health Education at Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia, Bandung. Data were collected using the Student Physical Literacy Questionnaire, the International Physical Activity Questionnaire-Short Form (IPAQ-SF), and the Student Well-being Scale. Mediation analysis was performed using PROCESS Macro for SPSS version 4.2, Model 4. Results revealed that PL significantly predicts physical activity (β = 0.27, p < 0.005), and both PL and physical activity significantly influence mental well-being (β = 0.21 and β = 0.36 respectively, p < 0.005). The total effect of PL on mental well-being was 0.40 (p < 0.005), consisting of a direct effect of 0.27 (67.5%) and an indirect effect through physical activity of 0.13 (32.5%). Bootstrap confidence intervals (0.06-0.21) confirmed significant partial mediation. The findings affirm the embodied cognition perspective, suggesting that physical literacy plays an essential role in promoting mental well-being both directly and through  physical activity. This study provides empirical evidence for integrating physical literacy development into mental health promotion strategies within higher education contexts.

Abstract

This study aims to investigate the motivations for learning Physical Education, Sports, and Health (PE) among high school students from a gender perspective. The basis of this study is the importance of motivation as a key factor in student engagement, persistence, and academic achievement. This study is distinct from prior research, predominantly conducted at the elementary and junior high school levels, as it concentrates on high school and employs the Indonesian version of the Academic Motivation Scale (AMS) instrument, validated for its reliability and validity.. This research adopts a descriptive quantitative methodology, with a sample selected through stratified random sampling, including both male and female students from State Senior High School 2 Majalaya. Data analysis was carried out through descriptive tests, normality tests, non-parametric Mann-Whitney tests, and effect size tests. The results showed no significant differences in PE learning motivation between male and female students. This finding is reinforced by the very Senior High School effect size, so the role of gender on learning motivation can be said to be limited. Thus, student learning motivation is more influenced by external factors such as learning methods, teacher support, and the learning environment. This research is expected to contribute to the literature on PE learning motivation as well as practical recommendations for teachers in designing more inclusive learning.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of brief mindfulness psychoeducation on the emotional regulation abilities of sports coaching students. The background of this study is based on the importance of emotional regulation in the context of coaching education, where students are required to maintain emotional stability when facing academic pressure and interacting with athletes. This study uses a quasi-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest model. The research subjects consisted of 20 sports coaching students at the Indonesia University of Education, selected through purposive sampling. The instrument used was the Emotion Regulation Questionnaire (ERQ) to measure the aspects of cognitive reappraisal and expressive suppression. The intervention in the form of brief mindfulness psychoeducation was carried out over six sessions in three weeks, with material covering conscious breathing, light meditation, and awareness in daily activities. Data analysis used a paired sample t-test. The results showed a significant increase in cognitive reappraisal (p < 0.05) and a significant decrease in expressive suppression (p < 0.05). Thus, brief mindfulness psychoeducation proved effective in improving the emotional regulation of physical education students, particularly in their ability to reinterpret emotional situations and reduce the tendency to suppress emotional expression. This study provides practical recommendations for educational institutions to integrate mindfulness psychoeducation programs as part of the emotional competency development of student trainers.
