English Education: English Journal for Teaching and Learning which is later called EEJ is a journal published by Tarbiyah and Teacher Training Faculty UIN Syekh Ali Hasan Ahmad Addary Padangsidimpuan every June and December. The journal is dedicated to original research on the teaching and learning of English as a foreign language. EEJ includes result of research (field and literature), conceptual ideas and studies, application theory, criticism in language and literature. The contents are author’s responsibility and science is the priority. This research aimed to know whether students’ reading comprehension can improve with use Contextual Guessing Technique and to know how the implementation of this method in reading class. This research used action research classroom. The finding of the research was the students more enthusiast in answering the reading’s question. The test result came from first cycle and second cycle. It showed improvement. The conclusion was the students need learning technique relate with their learning level. Contextual Guessing Technique is one of the appropriate techniques in reading class for senior high students. This case proved by the students more motivated and spirit in learning English especially in reading. Therefore the students got good score.

Studi ini bertujuan mendeskripsikan hubungan motivasi dan sikap dengan prestasi belajar Bahasa Inggris pada siswa kelas VIII SMP Negeri 9 Padangsidimpuan. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, terdapat lima hasil penelitian, yaitu: 1) Terdapat hubungan motivasi dengan prestasi belajar Bahasa Inggris pada siswa kelas VIII SMP Negeri 9 Padangsidimpuan. Berdasarkan nilai was 0.381, hubungan keduanya dinyatakan lemah. 2) Terdapat hubungan sikap dengan prestasi belajar Bahasa Inggris pada siswa kelas VIII SMP Negeri 9 Padangsidimpuan. Berdasarkan nilai was 0.441, hubungan keduanya dinyatakan cukup. 3) Terdapat hubungan motivasi dengan prestasi belajar Bahasa Inggris pada siswa kelas VIII SMP Negeri 9 Padangsidimpuan, ketika variabel sikap dikontrol. Berdasarkan nilai was 0.209, hubungan keduanya dinyatakan lemah. 4) Tidak terdapat hubungan sikap dengan prestasi belajar Bahasa Inggris pada siswa kelas VIII SMP Negeri 9 Padangsidimpuan, ketika variabel motivasi dikontrol. Berdasarkan nilai was 0.114, hubungan keduanya dinyatakan tidak ada. 5) Terdapat hubungan motivasi dan sikap dengan prestasi belajar Bahasa Inggris pada siswa kelas VIII SMP Negeri 9 Padangsidimpuan. Berdasarkan nilai was 0.234, hubungan ketiganya dinyatakan lemah.

Pemahaman makna atau pengalaman di dunia ini secara alami sangatlah penting dimiliki oleh setiap orang. Setiap orang mempunyai media sensor makna atau pengalaman secara alami, yakni dengan sense. Sense juga disebut sebagai media pemahaman termasuk penglihatan, pendengaran, perasa, pencium dan peraba. Proses sense secara umum dimulai dari issu hangat dan dilanjutkan dengan pemberian kode pada otak. Setelah berada di otak, pastilah dia merupakan sebuah makna atau pengalaman. Pertama, makna atau pengalaman akan depersepsikan sebagai persepsi pribadi, ini tergantung pada pengetahuan dasar orangnya yang disebut pemahaman pribadi. Kedua, akan ada tanggapan terhadap issu yang dipahami. Tanggapan itu secara otomatis berada kekal dengan orang lain. Beberapa orang menanggapi sejalan dengan issu dan yang lainnya menanggapi secara berbeda. Tentunya kedua tanggapan itu harus ada. Tetapi, jika tidak ada tanggapan dari sebuah issu, itu berarti orang tersebut belum atau tidak berproses dengan issu. Ketiga, dengan memberikan tanggapan, akan dilanjutkan dengan tindak lanjut. Ini berarti setiap orang yang sudah memahami akan secara alami menanggapi dan memberikan tindak lanjut atas apa yang dia pahami khususnya jika itu berkaitan dengan kehidupannya. Kehidupan maksudnya disini adalah segala sesuatu yang berkaitan dengannya.

This research was conducted in increasing the students’ English comprehension. They are not English department the students. The using of Hello English Application Based on Android Smartphone available in online or offline, the students can use it in everywhere. The research use action research. Plans made such as the use of Android-based Hello English Application and research instruments as learning support. This action research starts from planning, acting, reflecting and evaluating. It consists of six meetings with 3 cycles. The implementation of learning goes well with starting activities, core activities (introduction and use of Hello English Application(and closing activities (giving posttest question). The first cycle, the students still confused with the app, it might them got low score. At the second cycle, the researcher gave the video tutorial about the app, therefore the students more relax and they got good score. In the third cycle, the students enjoyed with the app and got better score and brave follow the online match in the app. The result showed that there is improvement on the students’ comprehension with English in every meeting. This showed that the use of Hello English Application has an effect of increasing the students’ competency in learning English.

This study was purposed to describe the difficulties in linguistics faced by the students in studying Speaking and the ways taken by the lecturer in solving the students’ linguistics difficulties in studying Speaking at English Education Department of Universitas Islam Madura.The research design was descriptive and the subject of the study was fourth semester students and Speaking Lecturer of English Education Department. The data were collected by observing the Speaking lecturer and interviewing the six students and speaking lecturer. They were analyzed descriptively. The finding showed that the materials used in teaching speaking are Describing Object, Simple present and Vocabulary. Meanwhile, the strategies which are used by the lecturer are lecturing, individual task, group discussion, students’ performance and role play. The Speaking lecturer had some ways to solve the linguistic difficulties by making the class attractive, giving more detailed explanation and some exercises, giving more detailed explanation in the usage of tenses and some exercises, giving the vocabulary , and identifying the difficulties dealing with the students’ condition.

The advancement of technology nowadays has impacted contemporary society in many sectors. One of them is the education sector. The 21st century is regarded as the era of technology. It has helped many things in education and made teaching more exciting and effortless. Technology plays an essential role in human life. Teachers can use technology to make teaching media that can increase students’ attraction to follow the class. The research focused on analyzing digital tools that English pre-service teachers use, how it functions, how it benefits teachers and students, and how students respond to certain digital tools. This research was done by analyzing five recorded micro-teaching videos of English pre-service teacher teaching internship programs, four lesson plans, and clarified by interviewing four related English pre-service teachers. This research found that English pre-service teachers did facilitate students’ digital literacy. Students are also left with good responses towards the activity, which is shown by the recorded video where the students actively participate.

This study aims to investigate the impact of the Frayer model of learning on pharmaceutical vocabulary. The research employs a quantitative approach utilizing a quasi-experimental design. From the population of 53 first-semester pharmacy students at Universitas Kristen Immanuel, a sample of 30 students. Data were collected through pre-tests and post-tests of essay questions test administered to both the experimental and control groups. Statistical analyses were conducted on the test results using SPSS version 22. This finding indicates a significant effect of the Frayer model on pharmaceutical vocabulary among first-semester pharmacy students. The N-Gain score for the experimental class was 65.9%, which was notably higher than the N-Gain score of 13.6% for the control class. These results suggest that the Frayer model is a more effective instructional method for enhancing vocabulary acquisition in pharmacy education compared to conventional teaching methods.

Penelitian ini adalah Kekhasan bahasa pada teks koran. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menemukan penggunaan bahasa pada teks koran yaitu pada penggunaan kalimat aktif dan kalimat pasif. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan penelitian kualitatif. Data penelitian ini adalah kata-kata pada teks koran yaitu pada teks koran Suara Indonesia Baru dan Waspada. Berdasarkan analisis yang dilakukan ditemukan bahwa pada pada kedua teks koran, kalimat yang digunakan adalah 100% kalimat aktif.

Meskipun sebagian ahli menganggap bahawa Grammar Translation Method bukan lagi sebuah metode pembelajaran bahasa yang sesuai untuk masa sekarang seiring dengan perkembangan teori bahasa dan teori pembelajaran bahasa, sebagian yang lain ternyata sebaliknya memperlihatkan kesesuaian metode ini dalam sisi: cara pandang siswa terhadap bahasa, budaya dan kepratisan disamping tujuan-tujuan pembelajaran bahasa tertentu yang justru menuntut aplikasi metode sepenuhnya. Selain itu sebagian ahli juga melakukan modifikasi dan kombinasi terhadap metode ini sehingga memenuhi tujuan tertentu dalam pembelajaran bahasa di era modren. Metode ini lazim dikenal sebagai praktek pembelajaran tanpa teori belajar, mempersepsikan bahasa sebagai grammatika,bertujuan mengembangkan kemampuan siswa memahami bacaan, melakukan praktek penerjemahan, mengajar grammar secara deduktif di ikuti oleh fill in blank, mengajar kosa kata dengan sinonim-antonim, kosa kata bilingual, cognate dan tidak mementingkan pengembangan kemampuan komunikasi lisan.

This research aims to analize error translation found in public signs written in English such billboard, shops name, and so on. This research also investigates the reasons of the error. This reserach was designed based on descriptive analysis. The data were taken by taking photosof billboard and shops name in Padangsidimpuan for three weeks. After analyzing the data it was found that there are three types of error translation on public signs they are, spelling error, grammatical error, and wrong choice of word. The data showed that 70% of the total error is spelling error, followed by grammatical error which is 20% and the lowest percentage is wrong choice of word which is 10%. The reason of these errors due to lack of English knowledge. Most of the owner who made the public signs do not know correct spelling or diction in English.
