Abstract

This study discusses the challenging of assessing affective in English online classes at a junior high school in Bengkulu city. The method used was mix method with a questionnaire and structured interview through a google form. There are fifty English teachers who became the informant in this study. The findings showed that English teachers face challenges in assessing affective. Moreover, the assessment cannot be done concurrently, because of the limited time during online learning. Despite the affective assessment-based practice being the main assessment as the goal of learning, the way how to assess was still needed to be improved in the future.

Abstract

AbstractAudiolingual Method (ALM) emerged in 1950s on the shake of military purposes and its popularity declined in 1970s, criticized by linguists and practitioners in the aspect of language and learning theory as well as learning outcomes, together with the rise of communicative approach and other language teaching methods. The practice is still exist nowadays especially in teaching pronunciation, recorded materials and language labs.  In general, this method based on structural linguistics and psychological behaviorism; purposed to enable students to speak target language like native speakers do; develops oral communication through drills and repetition; teaches grammar inductively followed by filling gaps exercises; teaches new vocabulary through mimicry; puts listening and speaking in the top priority then develop reading and writing on spoken basis; and allows the further writing and translation in teaching students at advanced level. This paper discussed these features as guidance for teacher to teach English by using this method.  Key words: audio-lingual, aural-oral, drill, and repetition

Abstract

Penelitian ini berbicara tentang peningkatan kemampuan menulis siswa dalam teks laporan melalui teknik clustering pada kelas XI SMAN 1 Siabu, masalah siswa dalam kemampuan menulis adalah siswa tidak memiliki gagasan untuk menulis, siswa tidak dapat mengembangkan gagasan untuk menulis, siswa tidak tertarik untuk menulis bahasa Inggris dan guru bahasa inggris tidak memiliki teknik yang tepat. Tujuan dari penelitian ini untuk mendeskripsikan prestasi belajar siswa dalam menulis teks laporan dan untuk mengetahui faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhi penulisan laporan teks siswa dengan teknik clustering pada kelas XI SMAN 1 Siabu. Metode penelitian adalah tindakan kelas dengan menerapkan Kemmis dan Mc Taggart yang dirancang yang terdiri dari empat tahap. Itu adalah rencana, tindakan, amati, dan renungkan. Selain itu, untuk mengatasi masalah penulisan teks tulisan, peneliti menerapkan teknik clustering. Peserta penelitian adalah seluruh siswa kelas XI IPA3 SMAN 1 Siabu yang terdiri 28 siswa. Instrumen pengumpulan data adalah tes dan observasi. Teknik analisis data adalah mean score dan t-test. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, menunjukkan peningkatan kemampuan menulis siswa dalam teks laporan melalui penerapan teknik clustering. Skor rata-rata siswa menunjukkan peningkatan penulisan teks laporan siswa. Hasil uji pertama pada siklus I adalah 58,92 (25%) dan uji kedua pada siklus II adalah 83,28 (89,28%). Skor rata-rata siklus kedua lebih tinggi dari siklus pertama. Penerapan teknik clustering dapat meningkatkan kemampuan menulis siswa dalam teks laporan pada kelas XI IPA 3 SMAN 1 Siabu, artinya hipotesis dapat diterima.

Abstract

Mengidentifikasi sense dalam keberagaman sangatlah penting untuk mensahkan ide, aksi dan membuat keputusan. Sense adalah sensor makna atau pengalaman sosial alami. Umumnya, makna atau pengalaman sosial  berada pada fenomena yang kabur. Ini juga disebut issu atau wacana. Issu dari penelitian ini adalah prostitusi di Jalan Baru Padangsidimpuan. Berdasarkan pengetahuan dasar masyarakat, sense adalah kekal dengan keberagaman. Jadi, sebuah penelitian sangatlah dibutuhkan untuk memperjelas sebuah issu atau wacana. Secara teori, penelitian ini adalah tentang issu dengan menganalisis konteks sosial. Analisisnya menggunakan Metafungsi bahasa. Sense dikategorikan sebagai proses mental dalam mewujudkan pengalaman. Pengalaman itu kemudian dihubungkan dengan fungsi logis bahasa. Dengan menggambarkan proses sense (pemahaman sebagai proses mental, tanggapan dan tindak lanjut sebagai fungsi logis bahasa), penelitian ini menemukan bahwa subjek penelitian telah mengetahui dengan baik (87,50%) Jalan Baru Padangsidimpuan dengan bepergian ke sana sebagai tempat yang kurang bermoral. Ini seperti tempat maksiat, kurang bermoral, penuh dosa. Mereka menanggapi (73,06%) dengan mengunjunginya pada pagi, siang, sore hari, malam, tengah malam dan bisa sampai pagi dini hari menikmati tempat itu. Untuk tindak lanjut (57,13%), subjek dominan hanya ingin menikmati tempat itu untuk kesenangan sendiri tanpa meminta orang lain datang. Maksunya, tempat tempat di Jalan Baru Padangsidimpuan adalah terbuka untuk siapapun. Tidak ada undangan secara sah mengunjunginya dan semuanya bermaksud mendapatkan kesenangan secara peribadi. Ini sangat membantu untuk memperjelas kondisi tempat itu untuk diinvestigasi oleh polisi, pemerintah dan masyarakat untuk membuat aksi atau tindak lanjut dari penelitian ini.

Abstract

This research deals with the analysis of allomorphs of past participle form of the regular verb in English. Because allomorphs are phonologically conditioned, transcribing them becomes an interesting focus to figure out using phonetic transcription provided by IPA symbols and characters.  It is not only in pronunciation accuracies, English language learners are also expected to be able to transcribe as they pronounce the words. Descriptive qualitative was used to study participants at fifth semester, English Education Majoring of IAIN Padangsidimpuan. They were randomly selected to provide data. Collecting data was established by interviewing and taking notes. The finding revealed that correct transcription occurred 69% of the total words and mostly appeared to the allomorph [id] such as [priventid], [kələktid], [dipəndid] and [lændid]. By dealing with responses, it was confirmed that a large number of participants argued to apply rule provided by morphophonemic context to get accurate transcription.

Abstract

Teknik mengajar kosa kata pada usia dini mempunyai peranan penting dalam membentuk pemikiran kepada mereka tentang bahasa Inggris. Teknik yang dapat digunakan antara lain Showing real objects, Using demonstrations, Showing pictures dan By drawing Pictures. Teknik ini dapat digunakan untuk menciptakan suasana pembelajaran yang meninggalkan kesan bahasa Inggris adalah pembelajaran yang menyenangkan dan mata pelajaran yang sangat bermanfaat sampai ke jenjang belajar yang lebih tinggi.

Abstract

The purpose of the research was to know the correlation between vocabulary mastery and speaking mastery at grade VIII students of SMP N 5 Padangsidimpuan. Type of this research was quantitative research with a correlational method. Based on calculation of the data, the researcher found that the score of rxy was more than rtable 0.737 0,423. It means the result showed that there was a significant correlation between two variables in the good category.

Abstract

Activeness and low learning outcomes are some problems that may be faced by the teachers during the implementation of the curriculum Merdeka. These two problems may be affected by students' backgrounds and characteristics. In order to help students get better learning experiences and improve their learning outcomes, teachers may use instructional scaffolding. This study is a classroom action research. The data were collected by using observation and analyzing students' learning outcomes. The research participants are students in class 7 at a middle school in Jambi province. The result shows that there is improvement in students' activeness in answering teachers' questions and task submission, besides there is also improvement in students' learning outcomes although some of the students did not show any significant improvement.

Abstract

This research examined the correlation students’ motivation toward students’ writing ability in English language learning. This research aimed the correlation students' motivation toward students' writing ability in English language learning. This research was a quantitative analysis with a type of non-experimental research and the design used was an ex post-facto research. The population of this research was tenth-grade students at SMK Negeri 1 Kubu, divided into 16 study groups with a total population of 491 students. The sampling technique used in this research refers to the Slovin formulation in selecting the number of the sample used.  Random sampling technique were used with a total number of 84 students were being sample in this research. The data of students’ motivation were collected through   research instrument where the questionnaires were used to collect the data. The reliability tests were conducted before collecting the data. Based on the analysis, the reliability test values were 0.895. The students’ writing ability was measured by conducting a test. The data were analyzed by Pearson Product Moment Correlation, SPSS 23.00 application for Windows were used in analyzing the data. The obtained data showed a coefficient of 0.200. Based on the coefficient of test normality, where the coefficient were higher than 0.05. The linearity test were conducted, the analysis of linearity test showed the coefficients of 0.589, it can be stated that the data were  a linear regression. The results of the analysis of the correlation showed a Sig. (2-tailed) value of 0.946, with a Pearson Correlation value of 0.007. Based on the results of the correlation analysis, it could be concluded that the data does not have a significant correlation because the test results have a value higher than the threshold (sig 0.05). Referring to the results of this research, it could be concluded that the students’ motivation have no significant correlation toward students’ writing ability. Based on the results of the analysis, the high   and low motivation of students has not affected the students’ writing ability.

Abstract

ABSTRAKNLP (Neurolinguistic Programming) adalah sebuah terapi psikologi untuk memperbaiki kepribadian dan meningkatkan pencapaian seseorang dalam kehidupan dan penghidupannya. Terapi ini telah diaplikasikan dalam berbagai bidang profesi dengan hasil yang mereka yakinkan sebagai „konsisten‟. Aplikasi pendekatan ini dalam pendidikan sudah dilakukan di berbagai negara, sedangkan penerapannya di dalam pembelajaran bahasa asing sebagian rujukan utamanya disusun oleh Revel. J dan S. Norman (1997 dan 1999) sedangkan penelitian di bidangnya sudah cukup banyak dilakukan, meskipun pada satu sisi ditentang dan dianggap tidak relevan oleh banyak ahli pembelajaran bahasa. Dalam pembelajaran bahasa, NLP berbasis pada teori komunikasi; menempatkan kemampuan menyarikan, mengaplikasikan dan mempraktekkan prilaku efektif sebagai keterampilan belajar; mencirikan penekanan lebih pada kemampuan komunikasi lisan; bahan ajarnya terdiri atas suatu kondisi target beserta proses untuk mewujudkannya; pembelajaran dilakukan dengan proses imajinasi dan fantasi kronologi peristiwa; dan evaluasinya bergantung pada tujuan pembelajaran yang sebelumnya telah ditetapkan oleh guru atau kurikulum.Kata Kunci : neurolinguistic, programming dan modeling
