Abstract

Background : Maternal mental well-being is a crucial determinant of infant feeding outcomes. Psychological conditions such as postpartum depression, anxiety, and stress may influence a mother’s ability and motivation to initiate or sustain breastfeeding. However, the direction and magnitude of this association remain unclear. Objective : This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to assess the association between maternal mental well-being and infant feeding outcomes, including exclusive breastfeeding practices. Research Methods/ Implementation Methods : A comprehensive literature search was conducted in Scopus, ScienceDirect, and PubMed databases for studies published between 2015-2025. Both observational and interventional studies examining maternal mental health and infant feeding outcomes were included. Data were synthesized using a random-effects model following PRISMA guidelines. Results : Three studies met the inclusion criteria and were included in the meta-analysis. The pooled odds ratio indicated no statistically significant association between maternal mental well-being and infant feeding outcomes (OR = 0.61; 95% CI = 0.18–2.00; p = 0.41). Considerable heterogeneity was observed among studies (I² = 87%), which may be attributed to variations in study design, population characteristics, and measurement instruments Conclusion/Lesson Learned : Although several individual studies suggest that poor maternal mental health may adversely affect breastfeeding and other infant feeding practices, the pooled results did not reveal a significant association. The high heterogeneity highlights the need for future longitudinal studies with standardized assessments of maternal mental well-being and infant feeding behaviors.

Abstract

Background : Hypertension is a chronic condition that requires long-term medication adherence to prevent serious cardiovascular complications. Adequate knowledge about treatment is an important prerequisite for patients to achieve optimal adherence. Pharmacists play a crucial role in providing education and advice through medication counseling. Objective : This review aims to synthesize evidence narratively regarding the effect of counseling interventions conducted by pharmacists on improving patients' knowledge about hypertension treatment Research Methods/ Implementation Methods : This narrative review was conducted by tracing various relevant research articles. Article searches were carried out on the PubMed, Google Scholar, and ResearchGate databases, with publications from 2011 to 2022. The main keywords used included "pharmacist counseling," "medication knowledge," and "hypertension." Article criteria included medication counseling provided by pharmacists to patients. Inclusion criteria for articles were knowledge level as an outcome, articles written in Indonesian or English, and being full-text articles. After screening based on the criteria, 15 research articles were selected for narrative analysis. Results : The results of the literature review from 15 analyzed articles consistently show that counseling provided by pharmacists has a positive and significant impact on improving patients' knowledge about hypertension treatment. The majority of studies reported measurable increases in patients' understanding of dosage regimens, drug-food interactions, side effect management, and the importance of blood pressure monitoring. Effective counseling helps address knowledge gaps that often act as barriers to good medication adherence. This increase in knowledge is often an important initial step before achieving improved adherence and better blood pressure control Conclusion/Lesson Learned : Pharmacist counseling is an effective intervention in enhancing the knowledge of hypertensive patients about their medications. These findings recommend that the healthcare system optimize the role of pharmacists in patient education to achieve better treatment outcomes.

Abstract

Background : Noise-Induced Hearing Loss (NIHL) remains a major occupational health problem in the oil and gas industry. Conventional surveillance methods, such as air conduction (AC) thresholds or Standard Threshold Shift, are limited in distinguishing NIHL from other types of hearing loss, leading to potential underestimation of prevalence. The Air-Bone Gap (ABG) parameter compares air and bone conduction thresholds, enabling the detection of sensorineural hearing loss that reflects inner ear damage specifically attributable to noise exposure. This makes ABG a more effective tool for early detection of NIHL and for supporting targeted hearing conservation programs Objective : This study evaluated the role of ABG in improving NIHL identification accuracy. Research Methods/ Implementation Methods : A cross-sectional design was applied using secondary data from audiometric examinations of 495 oil and gas workers purposively selected from Similar Exposure Groups (SEG) routinely exposed to occupational noise. NIHL was defined based on audiometric screening criteria, with AC thresholds classified as normal or impaired, and ABG categorized into conductive, sensorineural, and mixed. Chi-square tests assessed associations at p < 0.05. Results : Results showed 14 cases (2.8%) of NIHL, all among workers with impaired AC thresholds, indicating a significant association between AC impairment and NIHL (p < 0.05). Moreover, all NIHL cases clustered exclusively in the sensorineural group of ABG classification, confirming a strong association between ABG and NIHL (< 0.05). Conclusion/Lesson Learned : These findings highlight that ABG provides greater specificity in distinguishing NIHL from other disorders. Incorporating ABG into routine audiometric surveillance may enhance

Abstract

Background : Freelance Make Up Artists (MUAs) in West Java work irregular hours, often starting before dawn or finishing late at night, disrupting circadian rhythms and leading to sleep problems. Working in the informal creative sector also means they lack occupational health protection. Early symptoms of shift-work sleep disorder, physical fatigue, and psychological stress are common, yet limited research explores sleep quality within this profession. Understanding their sleep problems and coping patterns is essential to support MUAs’ well-being and the sustainability of the creative industry. Objective : To explore MUAs’ sleep duration, frequency of sleep disturbances, fatigue-related impacts on performance, and adaptive strategies used to cope with occupational stress. Research Methods / Implementation Methods : This qualitative phenomenological study involved eight freelance MUAs selected purposively, all with at least two years of experience and irregular work schedules. Research was conducted in several West Java regions (Bandung, Tasikmalaya, Subang, Garut) from May–July 2025. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, non-participant observation, and documentation. All interviews were recorded with consent and analyzed thematically using NVivo 12 Pro. Results : MUAs experienced markedly irregular sleep patterns driven by client demands, especially during early-morning traditional wedding bookings. Most reported fragmented sleep, short sleep duration, transient insomnia, and chronic fatigue. Physical complaints included headaches, muscle pain, and menstrual disturbances. Psychologically, MUAs described irritability, emotional instability, and reduced concentration. Emotional strain was aggravated by the dual burden of professional work and home responsibilities. Coping strategies such as napping, caffeine intake, and selectively declining clients were common but only offered short-term relief. Long-term health concerns were frequently expressed, along with a desire for time-management guidance, occupational health education, and community support. The absence of formal protections for informal creative workers worsens their vulnerability despite the sector’s economic growth. Conclusion / Lesson Learned : Freelance MUAs in West Java face significant sleep disruptions and related health impacts due to irregular work hours and lack of occupational safeguards. Their coping strategies are temporary and do not address structural challenges. Cross-sector collaboration involving government, community groups,

Abstract

Background : Maternal mortality remains a major public health challenge in East Kalimantan Province, despite a decline in reported cases from 83 deaths in 2023 to 74 deaths in 2024. Objective : This study aimed to describe the pattern of maternal deaths based on maternal characteristics, timing and place of death, and to analyze preventable factors through the Audit Maternal Perinatal Surveillance and Response (AMP-SR) approach. Research Methods/ Implementation Methods : A descriptive-analytic case series design was applied using secondary data from the East Kalimantan Maternal Perinatal Death Notification (MPDN) database for 2023–2024. Results : The results revealed that more than 51% of deaths occurred during the postpartum period and 77% took place in hospitals, indicating the predominance of Delay 3 (delays in receiving adequate care). Analysis of modifiable factors showed that most deaths were preventable through improvements in the quality of obstetric services, increased antenatal care (ANC) compliance, and strengthened referral and postnatal follow-up systems. The major risk factors included delays in family decision-making, weak interfacility referral coordination, and inadequate case management at referral hospitals. Conclusion/Lesson Learned : These findings highlight that reducing the Maternal Mortality Ratio in East Kalimantan requires the completion of 100% AMP-SR case reviews, the strengthening of Postnatal Care (PNC) implementation, and the enhancement of Emergency Obstetric and Neonatal Care (EmONC) capacity across all levels of healthcare facilities.

Abstract

The government has established smoke-free policies, but despite the issuance of various regulations, the implementation of smoke-free areas in the field still faces serious challenges, one of which is low public compliance. Factors that influence compliance include personal factors and environmental factors. Objective : The purpose of this study is to conduct a literature review of studies that investigate the influence of personal factors and environmental factors on compliance with no-smoking areas in public facilities. Research Methods/ Implementation Methods : The research method used in this study is a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) using PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-analyses). Search from Google Scholar, PubMed, and Research Gate, using the keywords "kepatuhan" (compliance), "smoke free area", and "kawasan tanpa rokok" (smoke-free zone) Results : Articles published from 2017 to 2025. From the 225 articles identified, 10 articles were selected for use after applying inclusion and exclusion criteria. Conclusion/Lesson Learned : personal factors (knowledge, attitude, self-efficacy, perception) and environmental factors (quality of smoking facilities, no smoking signs) influence compliance with the implementation of smoke-free areas in public facilities. These two factors are integrated and interact reciprocally (reciprocal determinism).

Abstract

Background : : Anemia in pregnancy remains a critical global health problem, especially in low- and middle-income countries where nutritional deficiencies and limited access to health services persist. Iron deficiency is the leading cause, mainly due to inadequate dietary intake and poor adherence to iron supplementation. Objective : This review aimed to analyze the relationship between dietary iron intake, supplement adherence, and anemia prevalence among pregnant women. Research Methods/ Implementation Methods : A narrative literature review was conducted using databases including PubMed, ScienceDirect, Scopus, Google Scholar, and DOAJ. Articles published from 2020 to 2025 were identified using keywords such as “anemia in pregnancy”, “iron deficiency”, “iron supplementation”, and “adherence”. Inclusion criteria comprised peer-reviewed studies involving pregnant women and examining dietary iron intake or supplement adherence in relation to anemia. Results : Findings indicate that low consumption of iron-rich foods and poor adherence to supplementation are major determinants of anemia. Barriers include gastrointestinal side effects, cultural food taboos, limited awareness, and lack of counseling. Education, family support, and healthcare engagement significantly enhance adherence and hemoglobin outcomes. Conclusion/Lesson Learned : Combining nutrition education with consistent supplementation effectively reduces anemia prevalence. Integrated, community-based strategies are essential to improving maternal iron status and pregnancy outcomes.
