Abstract

Abstract Interpretation of the Qur'an encompasses various methods and branches, depending on the study's requirements and the type of verse being interpreted. Each method offers a different and complementary perspective of analysis. One such method is the visualisation of the Qur'an, which involves interpreting the Qur'an through imaginary projections. This model of interpretation, also known as 'at-tashwir', was introduced by Sayyid Quthb. This method tries to strengthen the analysis with a visual point of view and then discuss it with psychological studies. The author poses two main questions: What is the visualisation of Qur'anic verses? And how does it correlate with psychological theories? The study will explore the meaning of verses in the Qur'an by emphasising the visual aspects present in the text. Visualisation is based on information that can be perceived by the five human senses: touch, sight, hearing, smell and taste. After obtaining the images, the data will be analysed psychologically, supported by other scientific disciplines such as biology, history, and the arts. The use of psychology and related disciplines' theories will aid in understanding the visualisation. The analysis aims to explore the workings of the five senses and the human body's response to different stimuli. The study found that visualising Qur'anic verses has a significant emotional impact on the reader. The human psyche is closely linked to physical and empirical realities, which mutually influence each other. Keywords: Qur'an, Visualisation, Senses, Imagination, Psychology

Abstract

Abstract The statement says that the hijab was an obstacle to women's development during colonialism in Egypt sparked a long discussion about the wearing of the hijab at that time, especially after Qasim Amin conveyed it in his book entitled Tahrīr al-Mar'ah (1899). On the other hand, the hijab also paved the way for the emergence of feminist discourse among Egyptian society. This article discusses the hijab discourse in interpretation (tafsīr) in Egypt after the controversy caused by the publication of Qasim Amin's book. This research shows that there are two conflicting tendencies of thinking about women, especially in the wearing of hijab. The first group thinks that the hijab is a barrier to women's development. While the second group considers the hijab is not a determining factor for women's progress. This tendency has genealogical roots to imperialism in Egypt. Using Miriam Cooke's theory of feminism which does not only refer to feminist actions and activism, but also thoughts and seeks to change perceptions of women's social roles and responsibilities, this article analyse at how the hijab discourse in two interpretations published after Tahrīr al-Mar'ah, each written by an Egyptian feminist woman. Focusing on two tafsir, namely al-Sufūr wa al-Hijāb written by Nazirah Zainuddin (1928) and Nazarāt fī Kitābillah written by Zaynab Ghazali (1994), this article elaborates on the verses of the hijab which are interpreted in these two books and sees that – to borrow Amina Wadud's term – prior text cannot be separated from the mufassir. This article concludes that the interpretation carried out by the two women bring the ideology of the feminist groups of the two interpreters, namely the Egyptian Feminist Union (EFU) and the Muslim Ladies Association (MLA). In a broader scope, this also cannot be separated from the history of British imperialism in Egypt, along with the discourse of feminism brought by the imperialists. Abstract

Abstract Shawkat M. Toorawa is a contemporary figure who wants to show the unity of Al-Qur’an by presenting its rhyming translation. According to him, the translator ideally should not only focus on how to copy the content to the diverse languages, but should also maintain the feel of the original text. Because of his translation orientation prioritizes readers understanding – not just copying the text-, he is very detailed and careful in looking for appropriate equivalents of the translated words, including lexical echo and hapax in the Al-Qur’an. Using descriptive analysis method and linguistic approach, the author means to examine Shawkat M. Toorawa’s translation method, as well as his perspective about lexical echoes and hapaxes in the Al-Qur’an. This research reveals three findings. One, the Toorawa’s translation uses a micro-structure approach, it caused the study of micro-structure of the text can produce a macro understanding of the text itself. Two, lexical echo in Al-Qur’an has function to maintain the narrative of the text because it ties the verse that comes later with the previous verse. Three, Toorawa maintains the unique structure of hapax by creating meaning that is appropriate as well as not popularly used in the meaning of other words. Abstract

Abstract One thing that is often highlighted about Islam is it misperception and doctrine regarding women and their relationships with men. This spotlight drew responses from reformist thinkers by reinterpreting several doctrinal sources about women. No matter how re-interpretations have been put forward, the scriptural and textual of classical sources quite clearly obstruct such re-interpretations. There is a gap between equality as a universal ideal and explicit doctrine alongside concrete practice as reality. Facing this gap, the authors try to reconstruct the image of Islam regarding women using critical discourse analysis. For this reason, the authors offer two problem formulations; first, how did Islamic text depict women? Second, how did Islam determine the relational patterns of men and women? Answering these two formulations, the authors find two hypotheses that al-Qur'an itself give rise to a perceptive feedback about women which their characteristics that presented by al-Qur'an are in line with the stigmatic view of them. Apart from that, in the relational realm, al-Qur'an raises verses which then legitimize subordinating interpretations and practices towards women. Keywords: Women, Islam, Equality, Al-Qur'an

Abstract

In view of the law, the relationship of a child with his or her parent may be disconnected due to the adoption of a child; even an adopted child gets a special call from his or her adopted parent. Islamic law even recommends child adoption only in shifting obligation to provide everyday living, educate, nurture, and others in the context of worshiping Allah. However, the fact is that in the process of this adoption, acts of violence often occur toward an adopted child or vice versa. The writer uses library research in this study by making al-Quran and enhanced interpretation edition, using the qualitative method with a descriptive approach concerning the interpretation of adopted child cases in Indonesia, which is explained in the interpretation of the Ministry of Religion of Indonesia. From this study, then it is found that adopting a child does not bring any cause to the law in blood relationships, guardianship relationships, and inheritance relationships with the adopted parent. An adopted child receives a share of the inheritance of his or her adopted parent by way of a gift or written or spoken testament by his or her adopted father before his death. Therefore, it is advisable to adopt a child with a kinship relationship, to be far from mahrom problems.

Abstract

This article discusses the interpretation of the social theme by A. Busyro Karim, former regent of Sumenep, with kiai of pesantren and politician background. It will be extremely interesting, for the interpretations done were influenced by his experience as a social activist, exactly when he served as the regent of Sumenep.  It is such a rare interpretation, for the simple reason that in a time when loads of people assumed that politic was full of conspiracy as a cunning stratagem, he brought al-Quran to have a dialog with social problems and made it as a foundation to shape the lives of people. At least, this article will answer two questions that is how was the idea of A. Busyro Karim in Traditionalist Interpretation: grounding the texts in the context of social life in the realm of religion, education, and health? In addition, how was his reasoning consistent with his social life reality in building Sumenep from 2010 to 2015? This article is a literature review with Adabi Ijtima’I Amin al-Khuli approach for analyzing the relationship as well as the reasoning consistency of A. Busyro Karim with his government policy towards the people. From this research, it is found that a strong social study of A. Busyro Karim’s interpretations were mostly influenced by his background as kiai of pesantren, organizational person, and social activist which demanded him to frequently interact with people. Accordingly, there are loads of relationships between his ideas in his interpretations with his wisdom during the time he served as the 2010-2015 regent of Sumenep. The moral values of the verses of al-Quran he understood were applied in the form of superior programs for people’s prosperity in Sumenep.

Abstract

Related to the genderization of the Qur'an, this Qur'an is a Qur'an that has a more attractive appearance and is accompanied by a translation. Publishers do not hesitate to offer the advantages of their products compared to similar products from other publishers. They compete to hone their creativity, both in terms of cover, content, and completeness of additional text. Readers are increasingly spoiled with various sweet offers offered by publishers. This study intends to reveal two things: First, How are the visual models of genderization of the Qur'anic manuscripts. Second, What are the implications of using visual genderization of the Qur'anic manuscripts for women. This formulation, in addition to finding out how the visual models of genderization of the Qur'anic manuscripts are, is also to find out the implications of their use for women. This study is a literature review, which is based on primary data, in the form of manuscripts specifically for women and primary sources in the form of books related to this. This study concluded: First, the special Qur'an for women has many designs that can attract a woman to study it, in addition to being designed with a beautiful cover, the special Qur'an for women is also equipped with discussions on the laws of Islamic jurisprudence for women, in order to improve and add to the knowledge that they do not yet know. Second, the special Qur'an for women can affect a person's psychology and emotions, which are caused by color to humans in all aspects of life. In color therapy, color is often associated with a person's emotions. Color can also affect a person's mental or physical state. Abstract

Jargon – al Quran as a book of shalihun li kulli zaman wa makan – is undeniable, for the simple reason that it gets Allah’s legality in His words. For Muslims, this jargon is not merely as information (kalam khabari), but as an order (amr) to learn and keep. Therefore, KH. Ahmad Basyir As. writes a book of interpretation that can be learned by Muslims without any capacity and capability to interpret. This research is meant to answer two things: first, how is the used method in the interpretation by KH. Ahmad Basyir AS.? Second, how is the content of the interpreted verses? To make ease of that, the writer uses qualitative study or literature review, collecting books or classical books concerning the theme, including interpretation books hadits, and the explanation of ulama who are expert in it. While, for several data about the interpreter, the writer makes interview some informants. This research results are as follows: first, the interpreting sources in the interpretation of KH. Ahmad Basyir AS. is bi al-ra’yi. Second, the interpreting method is a global method (ijmali) and thematic (maudhu’i). Third, the interpretive style is fiqhi style (part 2-interpretation) and lughawi (part 1-interpretation). Fourth, the used systematic interpretation is maudhu’i. Furthermore, the interpreted contents are kauniyah verses, mawaris verses, munakahat verses, verses about the law of good and bad food and drink, and verses about the law of slaughter. Abstract

There is a similarity between the story of Potre Koneng in the Madura legend with the story of Siti Maryam either in the personality or with the peculiarity of both. The most visible thing in both stories is that they gave birth to a baby without any sexual relations or marriage; therefore, the relevancy of these two stories is attractive to discuss. This research aims to answer three questions. First, how was the story of Potre koneng? Second, how was the story of Siti Maryam in al-Quran? Third, does the story of Potre Koneng have relevance to the story of Siti Maryam in al-Quran? The method or approach used in this research is non-interactive qualitative, focusing on concept analysis. While analytical technique in this research is documentation. Abstract

It is rare for disaster theology discussions to find common ground. Some people believe that natural disaster is sunnatullah (natural law by Allah), that disaster is misfortune or curse from God, and that disaster is an attempt to test someone’s faith and patience. Recently, theoretical explanations have been used to overcome problems in disaster. For instance, geological causes make Indonesia susceptible to disaster. Therefore, we need to understand other elements contributing to the disaster happening.  This research aims to answer two study focuses: first, how does al-Quran theologically define disaster? Second, how are disaster response techniques taught by interpreters of Nusantara? This research aims to know the theological meaning of disaster in al-Quran and the way how interpreters of Nusantara teach disaster responses. This research uses a qualitative library to answer two preceding questions. In the collecting data process, the researcher uses three books of interpretation of Nusantara, popular as the primary source, and secondary literature in the form of books, journals, thesis, and other important sources. First, disaster theology is an interpretation of disaster in the view of al-Quran, with its difficulties. Al-Quran uses several phrases to describe disaster, like calamity, slander, or bala’ mentioned in al-Quran in several different letters. Second, it can be concluded from the three interpretations of interpretaters of Nusantara that the did of humans is the root of its disaster, because Allah will never bring disaster to His people without any strong reason. Due to the breadth of Allah’s mercy, His people never undergo negative things.
