Abstract

Pollution in the waters of Lake Toba is increasing. Serious efforts are needed to respond to it. Interpreting the myth about the giant carp that inhabits Lake Toba can be an effective tool to minimise the pollution. In Land Ethics, Aldo Leopold says that humans are members of a community whose parts are interdependent. From the perspective of Leopold's ecological ethics, the author tries to explore the meaning of the myth of the giant carp that inhabits Lake Toba in response to the environmental issues that are happening in Lake Toba, where this mythology developed. The methodology used is a literature study. The author found that the myth contains ecological values that can foster ecological awareness in society. This awareness is very necessary considering the state of the ecosystem in Lake Toba which has begun to be damaged. Lake Toba is a subject that has interests and rights to exist like humans. Humans need to be responsible and respectful towards Lake Toba. The sustainability of the Lake Toba ecosystem is in the hands of humans, especially the people who live around Lake Toba. Just as humans need nature to live, nature also needs to be nurtured and maintained by humans so that the balance of the lake ecosystem relationship is maintained. The interpretation of this myth is expected to help develop environmental ethics and can be realised in environmental restoration, especially around the Lake Toba area.

Abstract

Education is a conscious and planned effort to create complete learning outcomes to develop students' abilities. Effective and efficient learning can be realized if the availability of teaching materials. Teaching materials have a more effective role because they can facilitate the implementation of learning in the classroom. Teaching materials used during the learning process are called textbooks. The components of teaching materials in the curriculum must appear in the elaboration according to Competency Standards (SK), Basic Competence (KD) and Competency Achievement Indicators. The purpose of this study was to determine the feasibility of the content and presentation of a Musical Arts textbook in a Cultural Arts Textbook. The method used in this research is content analysis where the emphasis is on: how the researcher looks at the constancy of the content of communication, which in this case is the contents of a qualitative art and culture textbook, how the researcher interprets the contents of the textbook, reads the symbols, interpret the contents and see the usefulness of the contents of the book. And, the results of this study found that the characteristics of the 2013 curriculum lie in the competence of graduates. The competency is an outcomes-based curriculum. The 2013 curriculum competencies are as follows: Curriculum content or content is expressed in the form of class Core Competencies (KI) and further detailed in Basic Competency (KD) subjects. Core Competency (IC) is a categorical description of competence in the aspects of attitudes, knowledge and skills

Abstract

Teachers feel uneasy with the decreasing motivation of students to learn. This has an impact on the decreasing academic quality at the elementary and secondary education levels. One of the causes is the elimination of national exams at the elementary and secondary levels. The elimination of national exams makes students reluctant to study seriously at school. The pros and cons of the policy of eliminating the implementation of national exams in Indonesia are the background to the study of this phenomenon. The purpose of this study is to describe the perspectives of teachers on the policy of eliminating national exams and their impact on junior high school students in Sleman, Yogyakarta. This study was conducted using a qualitative method. Data were collected using questionnaires, interviews, and literature studies. Data analysis in this study was carried out with the stages of data classification, data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of this study indicate that 80% of teachers consider that the elimination of national exams has an impact on the lack of student learning motivation and results in a decrease in student enthusiasm in doing assignments. Thus, the results of this study are expected to be a consideration in evaluating the government's policy of eliminating national exams.

Abstract

This study examines the ecological awareness of the Lewotala Indigenous community as expressed through the Ola Ma farming cycle—a culturally grounded framework that underpins the community's unique relationship with nature, vital for both their survival and environmental preservation. The primary aim is to describe the Ola Ma farming cycle and analyze the aspects of cultural ecological awareness it embodies. The research investigates the community's perceptions and attitudes toward their natural environment as well as their strategies for fostering sustainable human–nature interactions. Employing a qualitative methodology with an ethnoecological approach, data were gathered through systematic observations, in-depth interviews, and focus group discussions. Data analysis followed the Miles and Huberman interactive model, which encompasses data reduction, display, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that the Ola Ma farming cycle is conducted according to the Tonu Wujo Calendar—a traditional, orally transmitted twelve-month calendar based on indigenous computational methods. Moreover, two distinct models emerged in the community's understanding of nature: a vertical model reflecting their relationship with a Supreme Being and a horizontal model characterizing their direct engagement with the natural world. Both models underscore the importance of a nature-based lifestyle as a cornerstone for building and maintaining sustainable human–environment relationships. Consequently, the ecological awareness inherent in the Ola Ma farming practice is crucial for cultivating, nurturing, and safeguarding nature, ensuring the continuity of both human life and the natural ecosystem. Sustaining and enhancing this awareness will require multifaceted strategies and the active engagement of diverse stakeholders.

Abstract

Social interaction on Pelni ships has its own unique characteristics. This study aims to reveal the social interaction between passengers on Pelni ships as a unique social space that is formed during sea voyages in Indonesia. Pelni ships, with their various facilities and passenger classes, serve as a platform for individuals from diverse social, cultural, and economic backgrounds to interact. This research employs a qualitative approach using participatory observation and in-depth interviews with 25 passengers on the Makassar-Baubau-Raha-Kendari route in February 2025 The findings of this study indicate that the ship's space creates unique temporary social relationships, ranging from light conversation, cooperation in joint activities, to minor conflicts due to differences in values and customs. Several factors that influence interaction patterns include the duration of the trip, the layout of the ship, and the socio-cultural values brought by the passengers. In addition, social interaction is also influenced by social status and access to certain facilities, which sometimes reinforces social stratification on the ship. However, in some cases, these differences actually serve as catalysts for solidarity and cooperation among passengers. This study offers insights into the social dynamics within the mobile social space of a Pelni ship, reflecting the diversity of Indonesian society while also highlighting the challenges of maintaining social harmony amid such diversity. These findings are expected to serve as a foundation for improving service design and social policies on board ships to enhance the quality of the passenger experience.
