Jurnal Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat Arumbai is a multidisciplinary scientific journal published by the Faculty of Education and Teacher Training at Pattimura University. This journal has a national scope and addresses various issues related to community service. Its goal is to disseminate conceptual thoughts, ideas, and research findings achieved in the field of community service. Jurnal Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat Arumbai encompasses various activities involving diverse groups in addressing and managing the potentials, obstacles, challenges, and issues existing within communities. The execution of service activities also involves the participation of the community and partners. These service activities are organized to enhance the well-being of the community. For interested authors, you can submit your manuscripts following the provided guidelines. Please read these guidelines carefully and ensure that your submission adheres to the specified writing format. Manuscripts that do not meet the guidelines or are written in a different format will be rejected by the editor before further review. All articles submitted will undergo an Initial Review and Initial Manuscript Evaluation process by the Editorial Board. Subsequently, the articles will be sent for evaluation by peer reviewers through a Double-Blind Peer-Review process. Abstract

Community service activities in preparation for students to take part in the Maluku Province MTQ competition have been successful. It understands students about the art of Khat Al-Qur'an and improves Khat writing skills. It also promotes a deep understanding of the Qur'an, improves social relationships, and identifies individual talents and potential. The Khat Al-Qur'an competition in MTQ is not only visual art, but also an expression of love and respect for the messages of the Al-Qur'an, creating space for spiritual reflection. The main aim is to increase understanding of the Al-Quran and the art of Khat Al-Qur'an and prepare students to be successful in the Maluku Province MTQ competition, while also promoting religious values. This service aims to improve students' skills in the art of Khat Al-Qur'an, prepare for success in MTQ Maluku Province, deepen understanding of the Al-Quran, and develop students' individual abilities. This activity was carried out on 11 to 15 October 2023 at SMP Negeri 87 Central Maluku. Implementation of this activity uses the Asset Based Community Development (ABCD) method. The service activities successfully prepared students for MTQ Maluku Province by deepening their understanding of the art of Khat Al-Qur'an and improving their writing skills through intensive training and regular evaluations.

Abstract

The Covid-19 case has entered an endemic phase since 2022, since then stunting cases have been widely discussed by many people, especially mothers. WHO defines stunting as a disorder of child growth and development caused by lack of nutritional intake, infection, or inadequate stimulation. In this situation, education on healthy behavior change with a risk communication approach needs to be applied both in prevention, treatment, and at the stage of rehabilitation of risk environments in island communities (coastal and small islands). This education aims to increase public knowledge of the potential risks and threats of health problems. Thus, they are able to determine the right steps and actions to protect themselves from these problems. The method used is the Base Learning Project (PBL) with preparation, action, and closing scenarios. The results of educational activities are the screening of animated videos on eating vegetables and fruits, presentations with material on eating vegetables, as well as vegetable gardening with hydroponics, practicing making hydroponic installations and planting vegetables and fruits.

Abstract

Decision Support System (DSS) is an interactive information system that provides information, modeling, and data manipulation to assist decision-making in semi-structured and unstructured situations. DSS is usually developed using a flexible and interactive Computer Based Information System (CBIS). Implemented as a solution in the context of business capital assistance in Latta Village, DSS aims to understand and produce an up-to-date information system for Latta Village residents' database, as well as support the decision-making process related to the allocation of business capital assistance. Another main objective is to ensure the accuracy and completeness of the data used in decision-making to prevent targeting errors and ensure data selection in accordance with predetermined criteria. The community service program involves lectures by competent academics and practitioners in their fields. Through the utilization of the decision-making system in determining business capital assistance in Latta Village, Baguala District, Ambon City, participants and village officials gain an in-depth understanding of the citizen database information system. The application of the computerized system has proven significant benefits for policy makers, becoming an effective tool in supporting accurate decision-making for the type of business capital assistance that suits the needs and potential of the local community. Through the mentoring process, village officials demonstrated good skills in managing databases and determining the latest business capital assistance. This success creates a better information environment and empowers village officials to improve the welfare of the community in Latta Village.

Abstract

Training on the use and creation of websites for Social Forestry Business Groups (KUPS) has the main objective of empowering KUPS members in managing and utilizing online platforms as effective marketing tools. With a focus on agroforestry coffee marketing, this training aims to increase visibility and market access for KUPS products. The methods used are: 1) Designing and creating the Website; 2) conducting training on website management and utilization for KUPS Register Lima members in Tebat Village, Pulau Rejang Lebong. The results of the community service show that this training has had a positive impact on members' marketing capabilities, supported local economic growth, and overall strengthened KUPS's contribution to the agroforestry sector.

Abstract

The preservation of coastal ecosystems and mangrove forests is becoming increasingly urgent due to their vital role in maintaining the overall balance of ecosystems. The presence of mangrove forests can reduce the impact of coastal erosion and protect from threatening sea storms. Furthermore, mangrove ecosystems serve as habitats for various species. This community service program utilizes a participatory and educational approach to address plastic pollution on the coast of Batu Koneng Beach, Poka Village, Ambon Island, Maluku. The GEMPA Nature Lovers, students from the Geography Education Study Program at Pattimura University in Ambon, collaborated with the Indonesian Sea Guardians Community, the 733/Raider Infantry Battalion, and local communities. The program's goal is to raise awareness among the community and create a tangible impact in maintaining coastal environmental cleanliness. The chosen location has a significant plastic pollution issue, offering great potential for environmental preservation activities. The GEMPA Nature Lovers, a student organization passionate about the environment, constitute the program's primary participants. The program's main findings underscore the importance of awareness and tangible actions in addressing plastic pollution on the coast. By involving students, local communities, and various stakeholders, the program enhances understanding of the negative impacts of plastic pollution and the importance of preserving coastal ecosystems. These findings provide a strong foundation for developing sustainable policies and practices in waste management and protecting coastal ecosystems.

Abstract

The lack of strategies for teacher learning at SMP 87 Central Maluku is a major challenge. Training is needed to improve pedagogical skills, introduce technology, and overcome time constraints. High school support and student diversity create an ideal environment for the development of innovative learning strategies. The goal is to improve the quality of education by focusing on the unique needs of students in Central Maluku. Community service activities at SMP 87 Central Maluku on July 11, 2023 included a training method with a Forum Group Discussion (FGD) approach. FGD is used for group discussions to develop learning strategies according to student needs. The stages include planning, pre-test, implementation of FGD training, post-test, and evaluation and analysis using paired sample t-tests. The participatory FGD approach is an effective tool to support responsive learning development strategies to student needs. Learning strategy training at SMP 87 Central Maluku has a positive and sustainable impact. Careful planning and active teacher participation reflect a commitment to improving the quality of education. Pre-test and post-test analysis showed significant improvement, supported by high t-test values ​​and low p-values. The implementation of new strategies and teacher-lecturer collaboration created a dynamic learning community for continuous improvement in the school.

Abstract

The Quranic education development program aims to strengthen prisoners' faith by interpreting verses, memorizing short chapters, and the values of the Islamic creed. Using interactive methods supports the rehabilitation process of inmates within the prison with a holistic approach that integrates Islamic values and psychological aspects. Involving 100 male and female inmates, the program focuses on understanding and applying the teachings of the Quran in daily life. An inclusive religious approach encompasses religious activities and spiritual counseling. Regular Quranic studies and pastoral counseling deepen the inmates' understanding of religion. Creative activities such as art, group discussions, and collaborative projects aid in developing creativity and interpersonal skills. Understanding the religious and educational backgrounds of the inmates is designed to provide a personal and relevant rehabilitation experience, supporting positive changes in their character and behavior and preparing them for reintegration into society. The outcomes of this initiative include the guidance of inmates through religious approaches, focusing on the understanding of the Quran, memorization of short chapters, Islamic creed, and ethics. The activities involve the inmates interpreting selected verses and interactive methods. The introduction of memorizing short chapters uses repetition methods and active participation. Lessons on the Islamic creed focus on the oneness of Allah with an easily understandable and practical approach. Through discussions, role-playing, and practical activities, Islamic ethics learning is centered on moral and social values. Activities are carried out regularly according to a predetermined schedule, with evaluations based on behavioral observations, daily assessments, and final evaluations. Involving inmates in the planning process provides a sense of ownership while the religious institution's team conducts monitoring and supervision. The desired outcomes include an improvement in understanding the Quran and positive changes in the behavior and faith of inmates, measured through observations, daily evaluations, and final assessments. The necessary facilities and infrastructure include a mosque with prayer areas, whiteboards, and an Islamic library.

Abstract

Training for community service explores the Enhancement of English Literacy Skills with a Contextual Approach and Competency-Based Curriculum as the foundation for a community service program. Survey and interview methods assess the community's reading, writing, listening, and speaking abilities. The results guide the design of a focused literacy program, including English language skills training and relevant learning resources. Literature reviews emphasize the importance of English literacy in facing global challenges, opening access to knowledge and global educational opportunities and supporting economic and social community growth. The interconnectedness of English literacy with economic, social, cultural, and diplomatic aspects becomes increasingly evident in the era of globalization. Implementing the Contextual Approach and Competency-Based Curriculum has proven effective in enhancing students' motivation and understanding of English. The community service program will leverage these findings by aligning training materials with the students' everyday contexts, integrating competency-based curricula, and utilizing digital technology for digital literacy. This practical approach aims to directly impact participants' English literacy skills, helping them adapt, innovate, and contribute to solutions to global challenges. This program is not just the implementation of research findings but a strategic step towards building a more competent English-speaking community, supporting personal and economic growth in the modern era.

Abstract

Vision and mission revision training is an important aspect in developing the quality of education in elementary schools. This abstract presents a comprehensive overview of the study conducted on the community service process in vision and mission revision training based on education report card analysis for elementary school teachers. This study involves various stages, starting from an introduction to the importance of vision and mission revision to disseminating information to related stakeholders. This study introduces the importance of vision and mission revision training as an initial step in improving the quality of education. By identifying needs through analysis of education report card results, schools can determine areas that require improvement. The training process involving the selection of the right training team, interactive workshops, and mentoring, allows teachers to gain a deep understanding of the new vision and mission and the skills needed to apply them in daily practice. Evaluation of the implementation of the revised vision and mission is an important step in assessing its impact on the quality of education. This includes measuring teacher and student performance after implementation, as well as disseminating information to all related stakeholders. Overall, this study emphasizes the importance of collaboration, open communication, and involvement of the entire education community in improving the education system

Abstract

This study analyzes the impact of a leadership and entrepreneurship training program in Waisala Village, highlighting its positive effects on participants, the community, and the environment. The impact evaluation showed an increase in participants' knowledge and skills, as well as active participation in community economic and social activities. Supporting factors, such as a participatory approach and the quality of facilitators, supported the success of the program, although resource constraints and participant expectation management were barriers. The implications of this study's results reinforce the need to involve participants in program development, improve the quality of facilitators, and address resource constraints to support program sustainability. By taking these steps, the leadership and entrepreneurship training program can continue to provide positive and sustainable impacts for participants, the community, and the environment, and become a model for the development of similar programs in the future.
