Abstract

Pengabdian ini mengembangkan dan mensosialisasikan Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) berorientasi Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) menggunakan Model Mordiscvein untuk memperkuat keterampilan sosial mahasiswa di Sumatera Utara. Tujuan kegiatan adalah merancang platform pembelajaran virtual yang mengintegrasikan prinsip keberlanjutan, modul interaktif, dan skenario kolaboratif yang menstimulasi komunikasi, kerja sama, empati, dan tanggung jawab sosial. Metode meliputi analisis kebutuhan, desain instruksional berbasis Mordiscvein, pengembangan konten multimedia, pelatihan fasilitator, serta uji coba dan evaluasi partisipatif. Partisipan terdiri dari 120 mahasiswa dari berbagai program studi yang mengikuti lokakarya dan sesi praktik. Hasil pengabdian menunjukkan peningkatan signifikan pada skor keterampilan sosial berdasarkan pretest-posttest, tingginya tingkat kepuasan pengguna, serta adopsi aktivitas berkelanjutan dalam proyek komunitas kampus. Rekomendasi meliputi perluasan akses VLE, peningkatan fitur kolaboratif, dan integrasi evaluasi jangka panjang untuk mengukur dampak terhadap perilaku pro-lingkungan. Pengabdian ini membuktikan bahwa VLE berbasis Mordiscvein efektif mendukung pembelajaran ESD dan penguatan keterampilan sosial mahasiswa. Kegiatan ini juga mendorong jejaring antar-institusi, kolaborasi lintas-disiplin, dan evaluasi terukur lanjutan.

Abstract

The presence of a palm oil mill in Alur Gadung Village, Sawit Seberang District, Langkat Regency, impacts both the environment and the socio-economic lives of the local community. This study employs a qualitative approach using a descriptive method. Data were gathered through observation, interviews, and documentation involving residents living near the mill. The findings indicate that the community experiences positive impacts, such as job opportunities, increased income, and the growth of small businesses. Conversely, residents also complain about smoke, odors, dust, and black ash, which degrade air quality and compromise their health and comfort. The community urges the company to improve waste management and reduce environmental pollution. Collaboration among the company, the government, and the community is essential to ensure that economic benefits go hand in hand with environmental preservation and public health.

Abstract

: Speaking skills are one of the crucial productive development achievements for low-grade students, but the reality at Mitra Schools shows that students tend to be passive, anxious, and have limited vocabulary due to conventional one-way learning. This community service aims to improve the speaking skills of low-grade students through an innovative learning model in the form of integrating storytelling methods with elements of local traditional movement and dance. The implementation method uses a participatory and collaborative partnership approach through four main stages: situation analysis, teacher competency workshops, integrated practice assistance (Small Storytelling Class), and monitoring and evaluation. The impact of the intervention was measured quantitatively through performance assessment instruments (pre-test and post-test). The results of the activity showed a massive and significant increase, where the average score of students' overall speaking skills jumped from 53.6 (poor category) at the pre-test to 84.4 (excellent category) at the post-test. The indicators of confidence and courage to perform experienced the highest increase of 30.8 points, proving that the synchronization of dance motor activities is able to suppress children's mental anxiety in front of the public naturally. In conclusion, the integration of movement-based storytelling methods and traditional dance is not only effective as a multisensory bridge to optimize children's fluency, intonation, expression, and vocabulary, but also strategic in preserving local culture and internalizing character values from an early age.

Abstract

Consumptive behavior among adolescents in the digital era has developed into an increasingly significant problem, along with the widespread use of social media, the rapid growth of e-commerce platforms, and the ease of digital transaction systems that collectively shape the consumption patterns of the younger generation. This condition deserves serious attention because it has the potential to affect character formation, the level of independence in financial management, and the psychosocial welfare of adolescents. This study aims to examine the influence of consumptive behavior on adolescents in the digital era by focusing on three main factors, namely the intensity of social media use, the level of self-control, and financial literacy. The approach used is quantitative with an explanatory survey design. Data collection was carried out through the distribution of structured questionnaires to adolescents who actively use digital media, then analyzed using validity tests, reliability tests, and multiple linear regression techniques. The results of the study show that the intensity of social media use has a positive and significant influence on adolescents' consumptive behavior. Self-control has been shown to have a significant negative effect, indicating that the better the adolescent's ability to control themselves, the lower the tendency to consummate behavior is shown. Financial literacy has a relatively weaker influence than the other two variables

Abstract

Local wisdom serves as the primary foundation of national identity, currently facing significant challenges amidst the rapid flow of globalization. This research aims to examine the importance of preserving local traditional values as a survival strategy in an increasingly anonymous and uniform modern era. Employing a qualitative approach with a literature study method, data were gathered from various scientific literatures, books, and relevant documents, which were then analyzed descriptively. The results indicate that local wisdom functions as a moral "anchor" and a cultural immune system capable of filtering external influences and strengthening social cohesion through values such as mutual cooperation (gotong royong) and deliberation (musyawarah). However, real challenges were identified, including a shift in social interaction due to technological dominance and a sense of cultural inferiority. This study concludes that cultural preservation must not be rigid; rather, it should be achieved through the integration of local values in education (ethnopedagogy) and tradition rebranding strategies within the creative economy sector. Through synergy between education, families, and society, the younger generation is expected to grow into global citizens who remain firmly rooted in Indonesian cultural heritage without being left behind by modern progress.

Abstract

This Community Service (PkM) activity is motivated by the lack of use of local wisdom values in elementary school (SD) learning media in Kisaran Baru Village, which has an impact on the low cultural literacy of students. This socialization activity aims to provide understanding and direct experience to students and teachers regarding the use of learning media based on local Asahan Malay wisdom. The implementation method includes three stages: preparation through needs study, implementation in the form of interactive socialization and media demonstrations (educational comics and tradition-based game boards), and sustainability evaluation. The results of the activity showed very high enthusiasm, where 92% of students found it easier to understand local cultural values and 100% of teachers stated that this activity provided practical guidance in compiling contextual media. This socialization has proven to be effective in increasing students' interest in learning and cultural literacy, while supporting the strengthening of the Pancasila Student Profile at the basic education level.

Abstract

: The low application of critical literacy in learning in elementary schools is one of the challenges faced by teachers, especially in utilizing digital media that still accommodates local cultural values. This community service activity aims to improve teachers' competence in applying critical literacy through the use of digital folklore in elementary school high school students. The activity was carried out by involving 12 high-class teachers using the Participatory Action Learning (PAL) approach which included needs analysis, education, workshops on the preparation of learning tools, implementation assistance, as well as monitoring and evaluation. Data was collected through observation, questionnaires, tests, and documentation, then analyzed descriptively, quantitatively, and qualitatively. The results of the activity showed an increase in teacher competence, which was shown by the increase in the average score from 61.4 in the pretest to 86.8 in the posttest. All participants were also able to develop learning tools based on digital folklore and implement them in critical literacy learning in the classroom. In addition to improving teachers' ability to utilize digital media, this activity also encourages the integration of local cultural values into the learning process. Thus, critical literacy empowerment education based on digital folklore is one of the effective alternatives to strengthen literacy culture while improving the quality of learning in elementary schools.
