Abstract

Sleep quality is one of the physiological needs of life. Poor sleep quality can affect college student performance. One of sleep quality management is dzikir therapy. Dzikir therapy is a complementary therapy that uses mind-body technique therapy. This research aimed to identify the effect of dzikir therapy on sleep quality of college students at School of Nursing University of Jember. This research used quasy experimental with control group pretest-posttest design. The sampling technique was purposive sampling involving 34 respondents divided into 17 respondents as dzikir therapy group and 17 respondents as control group. The instrument used Pittsburgh sleep quality index questionnaire (PSQI). Data were analyzed using dependent t-test and independent t-test with significance level of 95% (p=0.05). The results showed that there was a significant difference of sleep quality score before and after dzikir therapy with the average decreased from 8.59 to 4.35 (p= 0.001). Meanwhile, there was no significant difference in sleep quality score between pretest and posttest of control group with the average decreased from 7.94 to 7.53 (p= 0.150). For both group, sleep quality of students decreased, but the decrease in the intervention group was higher than in control group. So, there was a significant difference of sleep quality score between intervention group and control group(p=0.001). Relaxation effect of dzikir therapy stimulates the hypothalamus to affect the pineal gland in producing melatonin which make it easy to sleep. The conclusion is there is a significant effect of dzikir therapy toward sleep quality of college students at School of Nursing University of Jember. Nurses can apply dzikir therapy to increase sleep quality of clients, besides dzikir therapy can also be a part of activity for college students before sleeping.

Abstract

Children with cerebral palsy (CP) have a high dependency on the activities of daily life (ADL) for a whole life. This can affect mental health and well-being of caregivers of CP. This study aimed to assess the mental health problems in caregiver of a child with CP who joined in self-help group (SHG) at Mojokerto East Java Province, focusing on depression symptoms. Using total sampling approach, the family member who has a role as caregivers of a child with CP were chosen and enrolled in a descriptive study, counted 37 respondents. The self-reporting questionnaire-20 (SRQ20) with Cronbach alpha value 0.84 was used to measure their mental health status. SRQ-20 is also available in the Indonesia Ministry of Health's online application. This study shows that the majority caregiver role is a mother (94.6%). 40.5% caregiver has a risk of mental health problems that require counseling by a health professional. Caregiver experienced several complaints both physical, psychological, and social. Perceived physical complaints include frequent headaches (40.5%), difficulty sleeping (45.9%), indigestion is disturbed (29.7), tired easily (37.8%),and a bad taste in the stomach (40.5%). While the psychic complaints experienced by the caregiver on average feel tense, anxious or worried (37.8%), difficult to make decisions (35.1%), and found it difficult to enjoy daily activities (24.3%). There are 2 caregivers who have the idea of suicide. These complaints are a form of response to stressors (caring for children with CP) which is a manifestation of signsand symptoms of mental health problems among them. These signs and symptoms indicate that caregivers are susceptible to depression, anxiety, helplessness, and despair. Caregiver of children with CP is a vulnerable population to psychiatric problems because of its role in fulfilling daily life care of a child with CP for a long time even a lifetime. Nurses can contribute to providing informational and emotional support to help the caregiver to achieve mental health and well-being.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a chronic disease that requires continuous self-care. Education by nurses can support self-care behavior of patients with type 2 DM. Good knowledge affects self-care of type 2 diabetes patients so that metabolic control can be achieved. This study aimed to identify the correlation between the role of nurse as educator and self-care behaviour in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. This research applied a descriptive analytic design with cross sectional approach. A total of 63 respondents were enrolled in this study by using consecutive sampling technique. Data collection was conducted by administering questionnaires of nurse role as educator and summary of diabetes self care activities (SDSCA). Data were analyzed by using Spearman correlation test with significance level of 0.05. The result showed that the mean value of nurse role and self-care behaviour was 59.84and 3.79 respectively. The p value was 0.000 (p<0.05) with the correlation coefficient (r) of 0.851. It indicates that there was a significant correlation between nurse role as educator and self-care behaviour in patients with type 2 DM. The correlation was strong and positive which means the better the nurse's role as educator the better the patient's self-care behaviour. The education gained by the patients can affect the motivation to perform self-care behaviour. This study suggests the importance of nurse role in providing education in type 2 diabetes patients to optimize self-care behaviour.

Abstract

The cognitive function of the elderly is influenced by several factors such as age, sex, education and physical activity so that it can impact the decreasing of progressive cognitive function. As power center of thinking, brain requires to be taken care by making a simple movement that followed by various of the brain function components like vision, imagination, hearing and emotion. The objective of this study is to find the difference of effectiveness of brain gymnastics and brain vital ization gymnastics in increasing of cognitive function of the elderly. It is quantitative study by using the design of quasi-experimental pre and post test without control group. The data collecting is using questionnaires of MMSE. The number of respondents is 34 elderly with consecutive sampling technique by using simple paired t-test, Wilcoxon, and Mann Whitney. It indicates that the result of statistical testwith simple paired t-test in group of brain gymnastics obtained p-value 0,000 (pvalue < 0,050), so that it is stated that there is a significant difference between cognitive function in a group of brain gymnastics before and after treatment, Wilcoxon test in group of brain vitalization gymnastics obtained p-value 0,000 (pvalue < 0,050) so that there it is a significant difference between cognitive function in brain vitalization gymnastics group before and after treatment. The result of the statistical test of Mann Whitney obtained p-value or significant 0,004 (p-value < 0,050), this it can be concluded that there is a significant difference between cognitive function in group of brain gymnastics and brain vitalization gymnastics. There is a significant difference between cognitive function in a group of brain gymnastics and brain vitalization gymnastics in Pucang Gading Social Rehabilitation Unit of Semarang (p-value < 0,050).

The study used preexperimental design with one pre-test post-test group. The sampling technique used total sampling of 16 respondents. Statistical analysis using Wilcoxon test. The result of analysis shows significant value (p-value = 0.005). Health education by demonstration method can improve the knowledge of welding workers so as to reduce the risk of the eye alienum corpus. There is a relationship between health education demonstration method and level of knowledge of prevention of corpus alienum eye disease at welding workers in “Putra Jaya” Sumbersari in Jember District. Nurses should undertake a health education demonstration method to prevent the alienum corpus eye on welding workers in order to reduce the risk of the eye alien corpus.
