The results showed that among the medical students of Universitas Tarumanagara, 59 students (98.3%) had low physical activity and 1 student (1.7%) had moderate physical activity. Based on the Brinkman Index, 29 students (96.7%) were categorized as light smokers and 1 student (3.3%) as a moderate smoker. Of the 36 students who used electronic cigarettes, 1 student (2.8%) had low nicotine dependence, 7 students (19.4%) had moderate dependence, and 28 students (77.8%) had high dependence. In conclusion, 98.3% of students had low physical activity, 96.7% were light smokers, and 77.8% of e-cigarette users had high nicotine dependence.

Abstract

Edentulism is the condition of losing all permanent teeth in the upper and lower jaws, which can impair masticatory function. Masticatory performance is influenced by various factors, one of which is the salivary flow rate, which is also affected by age. This study aimed to determine the average salivary flow rate and masticatory performance, as well as their correlation based on age in complete denture (CD) wearers at the Dental and Oral Hospital of Universitas Sumatera Utara. This research is a descriptive-analytic study with a cross-sectional design involving 20 respondents, consisting of 10 adults (aged 19–59 years) and 10 elderly individuals (aged ≥60 years). The salivary flow rate was measured using the spitting method with sugar-free chewing gum, and masticatory performance was assessed using the color-changeable chewing gum method and the Visual Analog Scale (VAS). Results showed that the average salivary flow rate in adults was 3.18 ± 0.91 ml/min, and in the elderly was 2.29 ± 1.29 ml/min. The average masticatory performance score in adults was 3.8 ± 1.14, and in the elderly was 3.4 ± 1.17. Spearman correlation test showed a significant correlation between salivary flow rate and masticatory performance in both adults (p=0.014) and the elderly (p=0.049). In conclusion, there is a significant relationship between salivary flow rate and masticatory performance based on age. Adult patients demonstrated better salivary flow rates and masticatory performance than elderly patients.

Abstract

Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) is an important element in every workplace, especially in hospitals. One of the important areas in a hospital is the laundry unit/installation, which is responsible for managing both medical and non-medical linen. This research aims to identify hazards present in the laundry unit, conduct a risk assessment, and provide K3 risk control measures for the management of laundry linen at RSU Bethesda Tomohon. The type of research used is qualitative with in-depth interview and observation methods. The research was conducted from March to May 2025. The informants in this study consisted of 4 people, including the head of the laundry installation, laundry staff in the wash and sewing sections, and members of the K3 Team. The research findings revealed a total of 42 occupational safety and health risks spread across 7 linen management processes, with 6 risks categorized as low, 33 risks as moderate, and 3 risks as high. The highest-risk hazards are found in the stages of transportation, sorting, and washing of linen that involve direct contact with contaminated infectious linen. The main hazard is biological exposure to pathogenic microorganisms that can cause serious infections.

Abstract

The quality of health services in hospitals is the main indicator in evaluating the effectiveness of the health management system. This study aims to analyze various health management strategies applied in hospitals to maximize service quality through a literature review approach. The strategies identified include digital transformation, human resource (HR) development, the implementation of kaizen culture, and the optimization of hospital management information systems (SIMRS). A literature review shows that technology-based approaches, HR training, and data-driven management play an important role in improving efficiency, patient satisfaction, and service safety. However, challenges such as limited infrastructure, resistance to change, and large investment needs remain obstacles. This study concludes that the integration of holistic and adaptive management strategies is necessary to achieve optimal service quality in hospitals.

Abstract

Breast cancer is the leading cancer affecting women, with 2.3 million diagnoses and 670,000 deaths globally in 2022. In Indonesia, there were 66,271 cases, representing 30.1% of all cancer cases. Early detection, such as through Breast Self-Examination (BSE) to identify breast lumps, can reduce mortality. BSE is effective for Women of Childbearing Age (15-49 years). However, early breast cancer detection rates remain suboptimal, potentially influenced by the knowledge and behavior of women of childbearing age regarding BSE. Objective: To determine the overview of the level of knowledge and behavior of Breast Self-Examination (BSE) among Women of Childbearing Age in the Pajang Public Health Center area. Methods: This study employed a quantitative descriptive method using purposive sampling. The population consisted of 7,538 Women of Childbearing Age, and the sample comprised 99 respondents. Results: The majority of Women of Childbearing Age in the Pajang Public Health Center area demonstrated a good level of knowledge about BSE, with 52 respondents (52.5%). Furthermore, most respondents exhibited good BSE behavior, with 65 respondents (65.7%). Conclusion:  The majority of respondents had good SADARI knowledge and good  Breast Self-Examination (BSE)  behavior.

Abstract

Tobacco consumption is one of the health challenges in Indonesia and is very important for this country, where according to data from the 2023 Indonesian Health Survey (SKI) conducted by the Ministry of Health (Kemenkes), the number of active smokers is estimated to reach 70 million people, with 7.4% of them being smokers aged 10-18 years. The health impacts caused by cigarettes span generations, causing two-thirds of Indonesian children to be exposed to cigarette smoke, this exposure contributes to stunting and inhibits development in childhood (WHO, 2020). This study was conducted in January 2024 with the research subjects being 39 students in grades X, XI and XII of SMAN 2 Sampoiniet, Aceh Jaya Regency. Methodologically, there are two data collection techniques that will be used in this study, namely by distributing questionnaires before explaining the material and after explaining the material. Thus, the researcher's error rate can be minimized as much as possible and the percentage of answering is higher. Interviews were conducted informally. In this way, the information obtained is expected to be more abundant, in-depth, and more descriptive of the actual situation. The results of the study showed that there was an increase in students' knowledge before being given counseling, namely 20.5% and after being given counseling, namely 46.2%. The level of students' knowledge before and after being given counseling experienced a significant increase, namely 20.5 <46.2.

Abstract

Stress is a common mental health problem among medical students due to academic demands. Physical activity is known to reduce stress through physiological and psychological mechanisms. This study aims to examine the relationship between physical activity and stress levels among medical students at Tarumanagara University class of 2022–2023. This research employed an analytical cross-sectional design. A total of 123 respondents who met the inclusion criteria completed the physical activity (Baecke Questionnaire) and stress level (Perceived Stress Scale-10) questionnaires. Bivariate analysis was conducted using the chi-square test. The results showed that 95.1% of respondents experienced moderate to severe stress, while only 15.4% regularly exercised. A significant relationship was found between physical activity and stress level (p = 0.000). The odds ratio of 13.600 indicates that students who exercised regularly were 13 times more likely to experience lower stress compared to those who did not. This study highlights the role of regular physical activity as a protective factor in managing stress among medical students
