Abstract

This research analyzes how environmental discourse is constructed in Greenpeace Indonesia's Instagram posts captions discussing nickel mining issues in Raja Ampat. This research also combines Systematic Functional Linguistics (SFL) particularly the transitivity system and an ecolinguistic perspective by using a descriptive qualitative approach. Source data from eight selected captions on Greenpeace Indonesia Instagram. The Findings show the utterances in captions in Greenpeace Instagram frames nickel mining as an active threat through material processes, while Raja Ampat is represented as a high-value entity under threat through attributive relational processes. Participants establish a power hierarchy in which the mining industry emerges as the actor, nature as the victim, and the public as the potential protector. Circumstance elements function to reduce psychological distance and create a sense of urgency. This research concludes that Greenpeace's digital campaigns not only describe environmental issues but also construct moral narratives that raise awareness and encourage action. This research highlights the role of language as a tool for transforming environmental discourse.

Abstract

The representation of the word “polisi” (police), which is initially lexically neutral, can acquire ideological meaning when it appears within media news texts. This study employs a corpus-linguistic approach using collocation and concordance analyses to reveal how linguistic strategies are constructed through patterns of repetition, lexical proximity, and institutional diction preferences used by the media. Data collection and processing were conducted using Visual Studio Code and the AntConc corpus concordance to examine co-occurrence relationships, grammatical patterns, and the semantic prosody associated with the word polisi (police). The research corpus was compiled contrastively of 1930 articles from Indonesian media outlets with differing institutional orientations, based on Benson’s institutional logic, which emphasizes that media operate within the frameworks of institutional interests and the ideologies that shape them. To complement the analysis, this study also employs Ramlan’s syntactic theory to examine the construction of subject–predicate relations and constituent functions within sentences, as well as semantic prosody theory to evaluate the implicit evaluative load behind collocational patterns. The findings indicate that AntaraNews tends to present a more homogeneous and stable representation, constructing the police as an ideal and professional law enforcement institution, whereas Tempo offers a more heterogeneous, critical, and varied representation, particularly in its emphasis on institutional accountability. These differences demonstrate that media are not neutral entities but rather arenas of discourse production that reflect the ideological orientations of their respective institutions.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the representation of symbolic meaning in the Perang Bangkat procession in the Temu Manten series of the Osing Tribe through a semiotic perspective. The study used a qualitative method with a field research approach. Data was obtained through participatory observation, semi-structured interviews with traditional leaders and procession participants, and documentation. Data analysis was conducted using the interactive model of Miles and Huberman which includes data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results show that Perang Bangkat is a cultural text containing a system of signs in the form of icons, indexes, and symbols that represent social readiness, moral responsibility, self-control, equal roles between husband and wife, and harmony in the married life of the Osing people. This procession is not interpreted as a physical conflict, but rather as a symbolic medium to transmit values and philosophies of life collectively. This study contributes to strengthening the study of cultural semiotics through the analysis of verbal and nonverbal signs in local traditions and supports the preservation of Osing cultural meaning amidst social change.

Abstract

Field observations show that students often experience boredom and difficulties in unggah-ungguh basa Jawa learning, so a solution is needed to overcome this problem. This study was conducted to develop interactive card-based learning media to support the unggah-ungguh basa Jawa learning. The research design used was Research & Development (R&D) through the ADDIE development model with the stages of Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation and Evaluation. Data collection techniques used questionnaires and observation, which were then analyzed descriptively through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and verification. The result of this research is the creation of a card-based learning media called Unggah-ungguh Card (KARGU) Fun Games. This learning media consists of two levels of games that can support students' language skills. Level one is a vocabulary guessing game used to help the students proficiency in Javanese vocabulary, while level two consists of dialogue exercises to familiarize students with speaking Javanese properly and correctly. The development was adapted to the Unggah-ungguh basa Jawa outcomes of phase F to support students' speaking competence. Based on the validation test results, it was concluded that this media is suitable for use in learning.

Abstract

This study examines how Indonesian K-pop fans use pseudo-Korean language in online conflicts that cross national borders. The clash between Seablings and Knetz has become a major online event. Through qualitative netnography, the research examines how Indonesian 'Seablings' and Korean netizens interact on X (Twitter), focusing on hybrid words like kontolyo and knetzteu. The results show that pseudo-Korean is a flexible system with creative suffixes and unique endings. Fans use this playful language to turn taboo words into inside jokes, which helps them build community and solidarity. More broadly, these language forms are used to challenge power dynamics between cultural centres and digital outsiders. By looking at these practices, the research shows how language innovation can shape identity, community, and resistance in the digital age.

Abstract

This study is discussed the symbolic and linguistic dimensions of the stola as a liturgical vestment within the Christian Protestant Church in Bali (GKPB), emphasized its role in articulating theological meaning and ecological identity. This method uses a qualitative descriptive methodology; the research was conducted at GKPB Hosana Kwanji, Bali and involved participatory observation, in-depth interviews with pastors and church council members, and document analysis of visual and textual materials. The participants included Elders, Deacons, and Evangelists who wear Stolas during worship services. The data was found through semiotic frameworks, specifically Peirce’s triadic model and Saussure’s dyadic model, to interpret the embedded symbols. The findings revealed three distinct symbolic patterns: grapes and chalice for Elders (representing communion and fellowship), bread and fish for Deacons (signifying service and provision), and rice for Evangelists (symbolizing sowing and evangelism). These symbols were not only delineated liturgical roles but also reflected Balinese ecological metaphors and cultural narratives. This study is concluded that the GKPB stola served as a place-based religious symbol, integrating Christian theology with local environmental and cultural contexts. Through eco-linguistic and semiotic analysis, the research showed that how visual and linguistic elements construct a contextualized Christian identity that resonates with Bali’s natural landscape and spiritual heritage.
