Abstract

Education is an aspect of life that is closely related to human life, and education is one of the pillars that plays an important role in creating quality people. This study is based on a lack of student understanding of the use of interesting media in the learning process. The purpose of this study is to develop and test the feasibility and effectiveness of a 'flashcard-based blended learning' media. The type of research is research and development using the ADDIE model. Research methods are analysis, design, development, implementation and evaluation. The subjects were 30 PGSD fifth semester students. Observations, tests, interviews, questionnaires, and documents are used to collect records. Data analysis techniques using product data analysis, initial data analysis, hypothesis testing, and n-gain testing. The results showed that the media "Flashcard based on blended learning" was very feasible to use with an average percentage of material expert judgment of 86.63% and 90.21% of media experts. he average score on the test went up by 72%, which is evidence that the test was measuring something important. The N-Gain calculation shows that the data is likely to be significant, which means that the average score between the pretest and posttest was different significantly. Research shows that flashcard-based learning media is a good way to learn at Khairun University. However, more research is needed to make sure the media is developed specifically for students there and that it is used in the best way possible.

Abstract

The goals of this study were to understand more about students' learning strategies for understanding English reading content and to discover why did students employed those strategies. Students in the second semester of the English Education Study Program at the University of PGRI Palembang participated in this research. A qualitative descriptive method was used in this study. A semi-structured interview was also used as a primary source of data. Data collection, data reduction, data display, and data verification were all utilized to examine the information. The data revealed that students used a variety of strategies to perceive the English reading text. Besides, habitual translation was the most commonly used reading strategy through students, while guessing the meaning of the text was the least commonly used reading strategy. Additionally, this study found through several reasons.

Abstract

Currently, the development of technology is very advanced. Technology can be used as an alternative to other media to gain learning about various English skills. With an application that can be used as a medium for learning English, of course, it will be very helpful for the general public or students who want to learn English instantly. One of the language skills that are very important in everyday life is speaking skills as an effective oral communication medium. The researcher used classroom action research to do this research. which aims to improve students' speaking skills using the Hello English application. This research was conducted in two cycles. The research procedure in this study consisted of four steps. Namely planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. Research instruments are in the form of observation sheets, questionnaires, tests, and documentation. From the findings and discussion, it is found that the Hello English application can improve students' speaking skills. This can be seen in test cycle 2. In cycle 2, the students' speaking scores showed that 20 students passed and 2 students failed. The average test score in cycle 2 was 8.05 and the percentage increase was 85.25%. This shows that in cycle 2 the student's score meets the success criteria of 75%. Thus, based on the results of cycle 2 the Hello English application can improve student’s speaking skills.

Abstract

This research sought to investigate the contribution of language learning strategies in the poem writing of an autistic student attending a special need school in Kuningan. This study used qualitative case, case study methods to analyze the cases in detail. To assess the data’s naturalness, observations and interviews were used to gather the data. And to investigate the difficulties faced by autistic students writing poems. The research was done at a special school in Kuningan and included one student with autism among seven other students. Results indicated that autistic students utilized motivation in social-emotional strategies. It was also noted that students with autism found vocabulary, tenses, and rhymes to be a challenge in writing poems. But she also learned how to overcome vocabulary by using cognitive translation strategies to acquire new vocabulary she didn't know, and using tenses by asking questions about it using social-emotional clarification strategies

Abstract

This study aims to analyse the teacher's perception of online formative assessment of student's speaking skills and to know the teacher's implementation of online formative assessment. This study used a mixed-method research approach. The subjects in this study were three English teachers at Mahasaraswati Denpasar University who implemented online formative assessments. The data was collected through observation, interviews via WhatsApp chat, and close-ended questionnaires. The result showed that the teacher positively perceived online formative assessmentregarding peer collaboration of student tests and enhancing test material. The teacher could help the students identify strengths and weaknesses in their speaking skills to improve their speaking performance. However, teachers have faced challenges in assessing online, such as students' ability to assess their attitude optimally, a lack of teacher technology knowledge, and time consumption when assessing numerous students. The study's implication is to provide teachers with an understanding of how to conduct formative speaking assessments in online classrooms without dismissing the character of formative assessment and preparation.

Abstract

Small Group Discussion (SGD) is one of the techniques that can be used in learning and teaching English speaking skills. This study aims to find out students' perceptions and the challenges students encountered when using SGD in their English-speaking activities at SMK Dirgantara Putra Bangsa. This study used mixed method approaches, and the instruments used in collecting data were questionnaires and semi-structured interviews. Respondents in this study were 23 students (7 males and 16 females) from class X of SMK Dirgantara Putra Bangsa in the academic year 2023–2024and through a purposive random sampling technique. Furthermore, a questionnaire was used to figure out students' perceptions, and semi-structured interviews were conducted to find out the challenges encountered by students when using SGD. Sixrespondents (5 females and 1 male) were selected in the interview session based on their scores, they are; two students with the highest scores, two students with middle scores, and two students with low scores to be interviewed. The semi-structured interview data were analyzed qualitatively using the interactive model proposed by Miles & Huberman (1994). The results of this study show that students' perceptions of using SGD can enhance their speaking skills. Meanwhile, the results of the interviews indicated that lack of vocabulary and self-confidence were challenges those students encountered in using SGD. This learning model may help students participate, engage, and enhance their confidence in speaking English, and teachers are aware of the importance of choosing the right learning model to achieve successful learning in the classroom are a few pedagogical implications of the present study

Abstract

This study aims to develop Flashcard learning media in learning English vocabulary mastery at the Tahfidzul Qur'an Annur Alhidayah Islamic Boarding School. The research method used is research and development with the ADDIE approach (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation). Data were collected through observation, interviews, and questionnaires. Data analysis is carried out using qualitative data analysis and quantitative data analysis. The result of this study is a revised Flashcard media based on advice from media experts. The revision of the Flashcard media includes the addition of adjectives and verbs as new forms and types of words. Product trials were carried out in English course classes at the Tahfidzul Qur'an Annur Alhidayah Islamic Boarding School. The results of the trial showed that the use of Flashcard media can improve students' vocabulary mastery. The study also compared with previous studies that used vocabulary learning strategies without expert assistance. In conclusion, the development of this Flashcard media can be an effective alternative in learning English vocabulary mastery at the Tahfidzul Qur'an Annur Alhidayah Islamic Boarding School

Abstract

Indonesia Pilot Academy utilizes language as an impactful tool to affect people’s perceptions. An electronic website is becoming increasingly vital for academy and candidate cadets by employing language as information and representation. The portrayal of Indonesia Pilot Academy represents the use of linguistic representation on the website and the contribution of this to understanding the overlapping factors that reinforce academic practices within the Indonesia flight-social structure. There are unanswered questions related to the study comparing and analyzing the diverse discourses used to represent Indonesia flight academy on its website regarding social constructs (e.g., gender and race). Then, the study aims to determine website language represented as academic quality, product, and social construct.The data was taken from the website of the academy. To that end, critical discourse analysis (CDA) is utilized to describe, analyze, and interpret the textual and visual representations of the Indonesia Pilot Academy website at the local, institutional, and societal levels. What is surprising is that the academy should encourage global political involvement with promotional discourse and visual images. This finding has important implications for fostering international promotional discourse and pictures to emphasize prestige and uniqueness.

Abstract

Certain expressions related to something intangible may be difficult to translate and need special translation strategy. The study’s objective is to classify the strategies conducted by translators to translate SL to TL of God and Self-related words and Expressions from English into Indonesian. This qualitative study compares Indonesian and English versions of the book The Alchemy of Happiness. The Indonesian version is translated byHaidar Bagir and the English is the work of Claud field. The results revealed that there were 209 data found. The translation strategies used come from Baker (1992). However, only 3 out of 4 werefound in the data. The most strategy used were translation using similar meaning and form with 102 data (48,80%) and the least was translation by paraphrasing with only 27 data (12,92%). The findings show that the translation using similar meaning and form is a functional strategy to translate the God and self-related words and expressions. Moreover, this study has pedagogical implications for translators in general, translators of God-related texts, as well as students and teachers of translation.

Abstract

This study aimed to gather empirical proof of how well reading authentic materials can help students with their vocabulary mastery of procedure text. This study attempted to determine how effective authentic materials aid students' vocabulary mastery of procedure text in order to obtain more information about the result. The research type of this study was quantitative research with a quasiexperimental study design. The instrument used was a vocabulary test. There were 20 multiple-choice questions on this test. 70 students made up the entire participant for this study. SPSS 22 was used to calculate the results of this study. The test of hypotheses revealed that alpha (α) was 0.05 and sig.2-tailed tailed (p) was 0.003. To put it another way, it indicates that the Ha (Alternative Hypothesis) is accepted while the H0 (Null Hypothesis) is rejected. It demonstrated the beneficial impact of using real materials on students' vocabulary retention of procedure text. The number of English words that students knew and could use in their daily activities improved as a result of their reading of authentic texts. The students also exhibited a greater desire to read. Students can use non-linguistic cues like layout, images, shades, signs, and the environment to their advantage.
