Abstract

Household organic waste management remains a significant environmental and economic challenge for small-scale farming communities. This Community Service Program (PKM) aimed to empower the Sejahtera Aceh Women Farmers Group (Kelompok Wanita Tani/KWT) through innovative utilization of maggots from Black Soldier Fly (BSF) and Tenebrio molitor (TM) as environmentally friendly and economically valuable alternatives for biofertilizer and animal feed. The program employed participatory methods, including socialization, technical training, hands-on practice, and continuous assistance in maggot cultivation and downstream product processing, namely Haggot Fertilizer and Waggot Feed. The activity involved 25 members of KWT Sejahtera Aceh in Seumereung Village, Aceh Besar Regency. The results demonstrated a substantial increase in participants’ knowledge and skills in converting household organic waste into value-added agricultural products. Haggot Fertilizer exhibited high nutrient potential, with 41% organic carbon and 9.8% potassium content, contributing to improved soil structure, water efficiency, and enhanced growth of horticultural crops. Meanwhile, Waggot Feed contained up to 40% protein, comparable to commercial pellet feed, indicating its feasibility as an alternative protein source for poultry and fish. In conclusion, this program successfully strengthened the capacity and independence of women farmers in sustainable waste management, reduced reliance on chemical inputs, and created new community-based economic opportunities. The initiative shows strong potential for replication and further development through advanced training, economic partnerships, and integration with sustainable organic farming programs.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the strategies of teaching Arabic vocabulary among eleventh-grade students at Darul Kholidin Islamic Boarding School, Bogor. Vocabulary (mufradāt) is a crucial component in Arabic language learning, as mastery of vocabulary facilitates comprehension of texts, sentence construction, and communication. This research employed a descriptive qualitative approach, involving observation, interviews, and documentation. The subjects of the study consisted of 25 purposively selected students who were actively engaged in Arabic language classes. The findings reveal that teachers implemented several strategies, including the direct method with an emphasis on speaking practice, language games, the use of visual media, repetition and memorization, as well as contextual learning linked to students’ daily activities in the boarding school. These strategies effectively enhanced students’ motivation, participation, and retention of new vocabulary. However, challenges were identified, such as limited learning time, varying levels of students’ abilities, and the lack of diverse learning media. The study suggests that innovative and contextual vocabulary teaching strategies are essential to improve Arabic language learning in Islamic boarding schools.

Abstract

The development of artificial intelligence (AI) in education has opened up new opportunities for teachers to create learning that is more interactive, effective, and adaptive to student needs. However, the use of AI in Islamic boarding school-based education environments is still relatively limited due to low digital literacy, minimal training, and teachers' lack of experience in integrating technology into learning. This service activity aims to improve the pedagogical and digital competence of Islamic boarding school teachers through training in the use of artificial intelligence applications based on the ASSURE model. The activity was carried out at the ABM Islamic Boarding School (pseudonym), Pasuruan Regency, involving 53 teachers from various subjects. Implementation of activities includes observing participant needs, workshops, demonstrations of using AI applications, independent practice, mentoring, microteaching, and evaluation. Activity data was obtained through observation, pre- and post-training questionnaires, documentation, and participant reflection. The results of the activity show an increase in teacher competence in using AI for learning. Before the training, only 12 teachers (22.6%) had ever used AI applications in learning, and 18 teachers (34.0%) felt confident using digital technology. After training, 47 teachers (88.7%) understood the basic concepts of AI in learning, 44 teachers (83.0%) were able to use AI applications, and 45 teachers (84.9%) felt more confident using digital technology. In addition, 50 teachers (94.3%) stated that training helped improve the quality of learning. Applications used include ChatGPT, Grammarly, Google Classroom, Canva AI, and Quizizz AI to organize material, make evaluations, develop visual media, and design interactive learning activities. This activity contributes to showing that direct practice-based AI training using the ASSURE model can be an effective strategy for strengthening the pedagogical and digital competencies of Islamic boarding school teachers. This program recommends ongoing training and mentoring to support the digital transformation of learning in the Islamic boarding school environment.

Abstract

In the era of knowledge and technological advancement, language acquisition has become one of key indicators of educational success, yet opportunities to learn English remain limited in many non-formal educational settings, particularly in rural areas. This program was designed to introduce basic English vocabulary through interactive and meaningful learning experiences for students at several Qur'anic Learning centers (TPQ) in North Aceh, including Balai Pengajian Darul Yaqin, Meunasah Samakurok, Dayah Tahzibuddin, dan Zauhar Malikussaleh. This program aimed to improve young learner ability to recognize, pronounce, memorize and use basic vocabulary in daily activities through enjoyable and meaningful experiences. The activities were conducted to 45 young learners with the age range 6-12 years. Integrating service learning with the teaching for young learner courses, these activities were implemented through five stages: investigation, planning, action, reflection, and presentation. Various interactive media and teaching strategies were implemented, such as Total Physical Response (TPR), educational games, flashcards, role play, and song. The result indicated that students showed high enthusiasm and active involvement during the activities. The students were able to recognize and memorize basic English vocabularies related to fruits, colors, parts of body, transportation, family members, and animals. The use of contextual media strengthened students’ understanding of English vocabulary acquisition. Finally, this program is expected to become a sustainable education model to promote English for young learners in rural community.

Abstract

This community service activity aimed to revitalize children’s literacy enthusiasm through participatory and humanistic approaches at the PMI Reading Garden (Taman Baca PMI) in Medan Denai, Medan City, Indonesia. The program addressed the declining reading interest among children and the limited digital promotion skills of the library manager. The implementation involved 39 children aged 7–12 years and one library manager as the community partner. The methods used included active reading, retelling, and educational film discussions for children, along with one-on-one digital coaching for the library manager. Quantitative observations showed that 82% of participants were able to retell stories independently with good comprehension, and 95% actively participated during the activities. In addition, the library manager successfully reactivated the library’s social media account for promotional purposes. These results demonstrate that participatory-educational approaches effectively foster reading motivation and communication skills in children while empowering local literacy managers. This activity provides a replicable model of community-based literacy revitalization that is simple, low-cost, yet socially and educationally impactful.

Abstract

The low level of foreign language proficiency, particularly in English, among Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Banda Aceh and Aceh Besar is one of the obstacles to supporting sustainable tourism development, especially in serving foreign tourists. This community service activity aims to improve the functional English language skills of MSME actors in order to strengthen the community-based and sustainable tourism services. The implementation method used a participatory approach based on the needs of partners, including hands-on practice and mentoring. The material focused on Aceh tourism vocabulary, everyday communicative expressions, and cross-cultural communication strategies in tourist interactions, product promotion, and customer service. This activity involved 10 MSME actors around the tourist areas of Banda Aceh and Aceh Besar. The results showed a significant improvement in the participants' English language skills and increased confidence in offering products and services. The output was an increase in the capacity of MSME human resources and the strengthening of their role in the sustainable tourism ecosystem based on local Acehnese wisdom. This activity has the potential to be replicated as a model of applied foreign language education for MSME actors in other tourist destinations in Indonesia.
