Abstract

This study aims to explore the relationship between mental health, competitive anxiety, and self-confidence in pencak silat athletes facing national and international competitions. This study is a combination of a systematic literature review approach and narrative descriptive analysis of a number of studies from journals and data reviewed from seven scientific articles discussing psychological factors of pencak silat, including stress, depression, emotional regulation, and self-efficacy. The results of the study indicate that pencak silat is not only a physical activity but also contains strong spiritual and mental content. Athletes with good mental health and high self-confidence show lower levels of competitive anxiety and more stable performance in matches. These findings emphasize the importance of psychological interventions in athlete training programs. This study suggests a continuous mental training approach to improve the psychological readiness of pencak silat athletes.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the self-confidence level of rugby athletes from the West Java contingent participating in the 2024 National Sports Week (PON XXI) in Aceh, North Sumatra, and to identify the influencing factors. Self-confidence is a crucial psychological aspect that affects an athlete’s performance, especially under the pressure of national-level competition. This research employed a qualitative approach with a case study design, involving four athletes as participants. Data were collected through questionnaires and in-depth interviews and analyzed using thematic techniques. The findings revealed variations in self-confidence levels, with two athletes categorized as moderate and the other two as high. Internal factors such as competitive experience, physical readiness, and self-concept, along with external factors including social support and educational background, were found to shape the athletes’ self-confidence. These results provide important insights for designing more effective mental training strategies to support athletes in preparing for high-level sports competitions.

Abstract

Injuries that occur to a person's body during exercise are caused by physical activity that can cause injury, disability, or damage to muscles or joints, as well as other parts of the body, Injuries that occur to a person's body while exercising doing certain exercises, sports injuries are not only rapid damage that occurs during exercise, such as strains on the body's soft tissues, but also overuse syndrome, which is caused by continuous exercise with inconsistent movements or postures that cause clinical symptoms, Such as functional overreaching or non-functional overreaching is used to describe the performance or performance of athletes or athletes. This condition affects the healing process and the training load on the athlete. In addition, overtraining syndrome is divided into two clinical categories: sympathetic and parasympathetic. More than 50% of athlete injuries involve the lower extremities, and on average sports injuries occur more during matches than during training, An athlete's recovery process takes longer If this is not handled properly, it will hurt the athlete's performance.

Abstract

This study aimed to compare the effects of the elementary training model and the conventional training model on kata performance among Inkanas athletes in South Sulawesi. A total of 60 karate athletes aged 13–18 years were selected using purposive sampling and divided equally into two groups: experimental (elementary model) and control (conventional model). The research applied a quasi-experimental method with a pretest-posttest control group design. Kata performance was assessed using the World Karate Federation (WKF) standardized criteria. The results indicated significant improvements in both groups. The experimental group’s mean score increased from 6.85 (SD = 0.75) in the pretest to 8.95 (SD = 0.62) in the posttest (p < 0.001), while the control group improved from 6.89 (SD = 0.71) to 7.55 (SD = 0.81) (p < 0.001). An independent samples t-test showed a statistically significant difference in post-test scores between the two groups (t = 6.789, p < 0.001). The findings demonstrate that the elementary training model provides superior outcomes in improving kata performance compared to conventional methods. This research suggests that incorporating structured, foundational training models can enhance skill acquisition and performance in martial arts, particularly in kata. Coaches are encouraged to adopt this approach to maximize athlete development.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of plyometric training on agility and speed in U-15 badminton athletes in Purbalingga Regency. The research employed a non-experimental quantitative approach using a survey design involving 15 athletes from PB Bina Tangkis who regularly participated in programmed plyometric training. Data were collected using the Illinois Agility Run to assess agility and the 30-meter Sprint Test to assess speed. Normality testing indicated that the data were normally distributed; however, homogeneity testing revealed non-homogeneous data, necessitating the use of the Mann-Whitney test. The analysis results showed a significance value of 0.000 (<0.05), indicating a significant difference between agility and speed test results. The mean rank speed was higher than the agility, suggesting that plyometric training had a greater effect on improving speed. These findings support the evidence that plyometric training is effective in enhancing athletes’ physical attributes, particularly speed and agility. However, since this study is non-experimental, further research with an experimental design is recommended to obtain stronger causal evidence

Abstract

This study employed the CIPP (Context, Input, Process, Product) evaluation model to assess the implementation of the Weight Loss Challenge (WLC) program for overweight and obese employees at the Semarang City Health Office. Data were gathered through documentation, interviews, and observation in a descriptive, qualitative manner. The steps of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing were followed by data analysis. According to the evaluation's findings, management fully supported the program's initial design, which was based on the real needs of the workforce. However, several technical and structural issues prevented the main goal of significant weight loss among participants from being accomplished during implementation. The program made effective use of internal resources without needing extra funding, but it was severely limited by the lack of science-based guidelines and restricted access to qualified instructors. Although the program was only run once a week, manual monitoring and a lack of feedback utilization resulted in a low level of responsiveness to necessary modifications. The program effectively raised participant motivation and helped create a healthier lifestyle culture in the workplace, despite the fact that the goal of reaching the ideal body weight based on the Body Mass Index was not reached.
