Abstract

Traditional vocational education (VET) for complex psychomotor skills is costly, risky, and difficult to scale. While Virtual Reality (VR) is a potential solution, research has focused on “immersion,” not empirical “efficacy.” The critical gap is the unverified “transfer-of-training” from virtual simulations to real-world, physical tasks. This study aimed to empirically evaluate the efficacy of VR-only training versus traditional hands-on methods. It specifically sought to measure (1) “virtual-to-real” skill transfer, (2) long-term skill retention, and (3) training efficiency. An experimental pre-test/post-test/retention-test design was used. 80 (N=80) novice welding trainees were randomized to a VR-Only (n=40) or Traditional (n=40) group. Psychomotor skill was measured on physical equipment at baseline (T1), post-intervention (T2), and 4-week retention (T3) using an expert-validated rubric (PAR), analyzed with ANCOVA. The VR-Only group demonstrated statistically superior skill transfer on the physical post-test (T2) (p < .001, \eta_p^2 = .710). This superiority was durable, with significantly higher skill retention at the T3 follow-up (p < .001). The VR group also achieved competency 27% faster (6.4 vs 8.8 hours) and at zero consumable material cost. -fidelity VR, driven by instantaneous data-driven feedback, is a more effective, efficient, and cost-effective training modality than the traditional “gold standard” for novice psychomotor skill acquisition. This study provides robust validation for the “virtual-to-real” transfer-of-training.

Abstract

Rural communities often face economic challenges such as unemployment and limited income sources, making sustainable development a complex issue. Socio-preneurship, which combines social entrepreneurship with sustainable business practices, has emerged as a powerful model to address these challenges. Rural ecotourism initiatives, as a form of socio-preneurship, have gained attention for their potential to stimulate local economies, preserve natural resources, and promote social well-being. This study examines the community-level economic impact of rural ecotourism, focusing on how these initiatives contribute to income generation, job creation, and local business growth. Using a mixed-methods approach, this research combines quantitative surveys and qualitative case studies to assess the economic effects of rural ecotourism in three rural communities. The study measured indicators such as household income, business revenue, and job creation. The results show that 72% of households reported income increases, 65% of local businesses experienced revenue growth, and 48% of respondents identified job creation in the ecotourism sector. The findings indicate that rural ecotourism can drive sustainable economic development by diversifying local economies and creating long-term job opportunities. These initiatives also foster socio-economic resilience in rural areas. The study highlights the importance of community engagement in ensuring the success of ecotourism projects and suggests that socio-preneurship can be a viable strategy for rural development.

Abstract

The integration of haptic feedback into Virtual Reality (VR) systems has gained significant attention as a means to enhance user immersion and presence. While visual and auditory feedback have been extensively studied, the impact of tactile sensations on users' experience of immersion in VR environments remains underexplored. This study investigates the effects of different types of haptic feedback on user presence and immersion in VR. The research aims to determine how tactile sensations, such as vibration and force feedback, influence users' engagement and emotional involvement in virtual environments. A mixed-methods approach was used, involving 90 participants who were exposed to three conditions: no haptic feedback, basic haptic feedback (vibration), and advanced haptic feedback (force and texture simulation). Quantitative data were collected through immersion and presence questionnaires, while qualitative data were gathered through post-experiment interviews. The results show that advanced haptic feedback significantly improves both user presence and immersion compared to the other two conditions. Participants in the advanced feedback group reported higher emotional engagement, greater realism, and improved cognitive involvement. These findings suggest that haptic feedback plays a critical role in enhancing VR experiences by fostering a stronger sense of being "there" in the virtual world. The study concludes that incorporating sophisticated tactile feedback is essential for improving user immersion in VR.
