Abstract

A hot work climate is one of the risk factors that can negatively affect occupational health and safety, especially in production industries that use fiberglass materials, such as CV. X. A work environment with temperatures exceeding the threshold limit value (TLV) has the potential to cause heat strain complaints, which can reduce productivity and increase the risk of health problems among workers. This study aims to analyze the level of heat strain among production workers due to exposure to a hot work climate. This research uses a descriptive quantitative method with a cross-sectional design and total sampling involving 10 production workers. Data were obtained through measurements of the Wet Bulb Globe Temperature (WBGT) index in the production area using the Heat Stress Apparatus Quest Temp 46, as well as the assessment of heat strain using the Physiological Strain Index (PSI) based on workers’ body temperature and pulse rate before and during work. The results showed that the WBGT value in the production area, with an area of 288 m², was 30.1°C, exceeding the TLV for a moderate workload category (28°C). Individual characteristics such as age, nutritional status, and water intake were obtained through interviews using questionnaires.

Abstract

The rapid development of technology supported by various attractive gadget features is believed to have a relationship with the golden age period in children. The multinomial logistic regression analysis revealed significant associations between gadget use intensity and language development categories. Specifically, higher gadget use was associated with increased odds of children falling into the 'appropriate' and 'questionable' language categories relative to the 'deviation' category, highlighting a complex, non-linear dynamic in digital exposure. This study aims to determine the effect of gadget use on children's language development aged 4-6 years in children. This type of research uses quantitative with descriptive analysis techniques, univariate, and multinomial logistic regression analysis. The study population was children aged 4-6 years in one kindergarten totaling 71 people and selected based on total sampling technique. The research instruments used, namely the Developmental Pre-Screening Questionnaire (KPSP) and the Gadget Use Intensity Scale. The results of this study indicate that the use of gadgets has a significant impact on children's language abilities, with a positive correlation in appropriate and questionable language skills, and a negative correlation in language abilities that show deviations. This research shows that the use of gadgets has a significant impact on the language development of children aged 4-6 years. Therefore, schools are expected to continue providing activities that stimulate children's language development, while parents are expected to monitor gadget usage at home.

Abstract

The traditional processing of Sikapa (Dioscorea hispida) is a form of adaptation by rural communities to meet the need for alternative food during the dry season. This study aims to document the stages of traditional Sikapa processing carried out by the community of Tapuan Hamlet, Tungka Village, Enrekang Regency. The study used a qualitative descriptive approach through direct observation and visual documentation without conducting laboratory tests. The results showed that the processing process includes nine main stages, starting from raw material selection, peeling, slicing, soaking in salt water, further soaking in running water, steaming, drying, to the final processing into Sikapa Chips and Sokko Sikapa. All stages are carried out consistently based on local knowledge passed down from generation to generation. This management produces food products that are shelf-stable, thus potentially supporting food security during the dry season. This documentation provides a factual description of community practices and serves as a basis for further research that assesses chemical aspects and food safety in more depth.

Abstract

Street food plays a significant role in urban food systems, particularly in developing countries where it provides affordable and accessible meal options for diverse populations. This study examines the determinants of street food purchasing decisions among consumers in Lengkong Kecil, Bandung, a major urban culinary hub that attracts students and low- to middle-income groups. As ready-to-eat food becomes increasingly preferred for its convenience and affordability, understanding the role of food accessibility is critical. While previous studies have primarily focused on hygiene and price, this study highlights the combined influence of physical and economic access as a key determinant of consumer behavior. This study employed a cross-sectional analytical design involving 148 respondents selected through accidental sampling. Participants were consumers aged 18 years and older who purchased street food in the Lengkong Kecil area. Data were collected using structured questionnaires and analyzed using logistic regression. The results showed that perceived food accessibility was the only variable significantly associated with purchasing decisions (p = 0.002; OR = 4.6; 95% CI: 1.7–12.3). Consumers who perceived street food as geographically accessible and economically affordable were significantly more likely to make purchases. Interestingly, although 58.1% of respondents perceived vendor hygiene as poor and 69.6% perceived sanitation as inadequate, these factors did not significantly influence purchasing decisions, highlighting a behavioral paradox in this urban context. In conclusion, food accessibility—defined by both proximity and affordability—plays a dominant role in shaping street food purchasing behavior. Policy and intervention strategies should focus on optimizing vendor placement in high-traffic areas, particularly near student populations, and maintaining affordable price points to better support urban consumers, especially those from low-income groups.

Abstract

Pregnant women who suffer from chronic energy deficiency (CED) tend to give birth to low birth weight babies. Based on data from the 2022 Lampung Province Health Profile, there were 5,142 pregnant women with CED. This study aims to examine the relationship between maternal knowledge and the incidence Chronic Energy Deficiency (CED) in pregnant women in Bandar Lampung City. This cross sectional study conducted on August 2025 in 5 community health centers with the highest number of pregnant women with CED in Bandar Lampung, namely Panjang, Kedaton, Kemiling, Kupang Kota, and Rajabasa Community Health Centers. Population in this study consisted of all pregnant women in the five health center areas where the study was conducted. Sample size was calculated using the Slovin formula with a population of 384 people in the five areas, resulting in a sample size of 200 pregnant women, which will be divided into five areas with a minimum sample of 40 respondents in each health center area. Data collection was carried out by filling out questionnaires distributed directly to mothers when they came to the health center or Posyandu. Variables was mothers' knowledge about the causes of CED and the incidence of CED in pregnant women. Analysis was performed using the chi-square statistical test and logistic regression. The results show that there is a relationship between mother’s knowledge dan CED (p-value <0,05). Educational programs on the causes of chronic energy deficiency and counseling on ANC are required to increase mothers' knowledge and prevent CED.

Abstract

Hypertension is one of the diseases that is considered the main cause of death and disability. The incidence rate of hypertension increases rapidly every year. This study aims to determine the influence of long-term suffering from hypertension, family support and medication adherence to the quality of life of patients through smoking behavior at the Mandai Health Center, Maros Regency. The type of research used is quantitative research with a cross sectional study design, which is a research design that studies the relationship between independent and dependent variables. The population in this study is all hypertension patients in the working area of the Mandai Health Center as many as 100 people. The sample in this study was 100 people using the sampling technique, namely total sampling. Statistical analysis used univariate and bivariate, with the chi square test followed by the path analyst.  The results of the study using pathway analysis showed that family support (p=0.004, β=0.279), medication adherence (p=0.011, β=-0.0274) had a significant effect on the quality of life of hypertensive patients while suffering for a long time (p=0.0.357, β=0.098), and smoking behavior (p=0.960, β=-0.005) did not have a significant effect on the quality of life of hypertensive patients at the Mandai Health Center, Maros Regency.  The suggestion in this study is that it is expected that the patient's family will always support the treatment of hypertension patients so that the level of adherence to taking medication is better.

Abstract

This study evaluates the implementation of Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) practices at PT. PLN (Persero) UP3 Padang. The electricity sector faces significant OSH challenges, and while research has explored OSH in various settings, a gap remains in the evaluation of OSH practices within Indonesian office environments. This study aims to address this gap by evaluating OSH work environment implementation at PT. PLN (Persero) UP3 Padang based on the Indonesian Ministry of Manpower Regulation/ Pemenaker No. 5 of 2018. The research employs a primarily quantitative approach, utilizing a descriptive survey design. Data, gathered through questionnaires, assessed OSH implementation (based on Permenaker No. 5 of 2018), safety climate, and employee safety behavior. The results indicate that PT. PLN (Persero) UP3 Padang has demonstrated a strong commitment to OSH, achieving a generally high level of compliance with Permenaker No. 5 of 2018. Employees reported a positive safety climate, with high average scores for management commitment (approximately 3.55). Employee adherence to safe work practices was also high, although hazard reporting behavior received a lower average score of 3.56. Furthermore, the reporting and communication culture dimension within the safety climate was the lowest at 3.28. A strong positive correlation was found between safety climate and OSH implementation (ρ = 0.7218; p < 0.001). The study concludes that while OSH implementation is generally effective, there are areas for improvement, including controls for specific hazards and hazard reporting. Continuous improvement and targeted interventions are crucial for enhancing OSH performance within the organization and similar office settings.

Abstract

The musculoskeletal system plays an important role in carrying out daily activities to increase work productivity. However, musculoskeletal complaints are still common, especially in the informal sector, which have an impact on work accidents and decreased work productivity. This study aims to assess the risk of work posture and factors related to both individuals and work on musculoskeletal complaints. This type of research is a  analytic cross-sectional study with descriptive and correlational analysis. It was conducted on 8 florists producing flower boards with a sample of 31 flower board craftsmen. Data collection methods were carried out through interviews and observations, using a questionnaire on respondent characteristics, Rapid Entire Body Assessment (REBA) to measure work posture, and Nordic Body Map (NBM) to assess MSDs complaints. The results showed that almost all flower board craftsmen experienced MSDs complaints with the most common level of complaints being moderate at 45.2%. There is a relationship between individual factors (age, smoking habits, years of service, and BMI) and work factors (work posture) with MSDs complaints. However, there is no relationship between individual factors (gender, exercise habits, and length of working) and work factors (work stage) with MSDs complaints. It was concluded that the risk factors for MSDs complaints in flower board craftsmen in Jember city were age, smoking habits, years of service, BMI, and work posture

Abstract

One of the main problems related to smoking is the increasingly young age at which people start smoking and the increasing prevalence of novice smokers. Preliminary results of this study show that students at SDN 002 Loa Janan Ilir still have low knowledge about cigarettes. Preliminary observations also indicate that there is no health education media on smoking prevention in the school area. This study aims to analyze the effect of pop-up books on the behavioral domain of smoking initiation prevention among primary school students in Samarinda. This study was a research and development (R&D) study. The development approach was applied to the development of educational monopoly media. The development of this media used the waterfall development model. A qualitative approach was applied at the research and information collecting stage until the main product revision stage. The type of quantitative research used was a pre-experiment with a one group pretest-posttest design. The results showed that there was an effect of the intervention with pop-up book media on the respondents' knowledge about the dangers of smoking. Statistical analysis using the Wilcoxon test produced a p-value of 0.000 (<0.05). Educational and health institutions are expected to collaborate in the development of health promotion media in the form of pop-up books as an innovative effort to prevent the initiation of smoking behavior among children.

Abstract

The laundry process involves various complex hazards, including biological, ergonomic, physical, and chemical hazards, this can result in health problem. The Jember Plantation Hospital Clinic is the referral hospital with the highest number of patients in Jember Regency, based on the participant eligibility letter (SEP) of the Jember Regency Health Insurance (BPJS Kesehatan) in 2022. There have been cases of Covid-19 infection spreading among workers in the linen unit. Therefore, the implementation of effective personal protective equipment (PPE) management is an important component in OHS protection efforts. The purpose of this research is to examine the implementation of PPE management among laundry workers in the Linen and Housekeeping Units of the Jember Plantation Hospital Clinic Jember Regency using the legal basis of the Minister of Manpower Regulation No. 8 of 2010 concerning PPE. This study used a qualitative descriptive design. Data collection  through  observations,  interview and literature studies. The research results show that the implementation of PPE management has not been optimal. Inconsistencies were found in determining PPE standards and quality, and the availability of adequate storage facilities. Furthermore, PPE training has not been comprehensively implemented, and worker compliance with PPE use remains low. PPE supervision and inspections tend to focus on compliance, without fully addressing the condition and suitability of the PPE. Systematic and continuous strengthening of PPE management is needed to improve the safety and health of hospital laundry workers.
