Abstract

Excessive consumption of sugary beverages such as soda has become a significant public health concern worldwide, particularly due to its association with poor nutritional status and a heightened risk of overweight and obesity in adolescents. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between adherence to a soda-free diet and nutritional status among teenagers using Chi-square and Spearman correlation analyses. A cross-sectional design was employed involving 200 adolescents aged 15 to 18 years, who were categorized into two groups based on their soda consumption habits: soda consumers and those following a soda-free diet. Nutritional status was assessed by calculating Body Mass Index (BMI) and classifying participants into underweight, normal weight, and overweight/obese categories. The results indicated that teenagers who abstained from soda consumption had a significantly higher prevalence of normal weight (70.6%) compared to soda consumers (45.2%). Conversely, the rate of overweight and obesity was markedly higher among soda consumers (30.4%) than those on a soda-free diet (14.1%). Spearman’s correlation analysis revealed a strong positive relationship between the frequency of soda consumption and BMI (rho = 0.68, p < 0.001), suggesting that higher soda intake is closely associated with increased body weight. These findings emphasize the critical role that reducing soda consumption plays in improving nutritional health among adolescents. From a public health perspective, promoting soda-free diets and encouraging healthier beverage choices should be prioritized in nutrition education and obesity prevention programs targeting youth populations to reduce the risk of diet-related chronic diseases. Abstract

Hypertension is a non-communicable disease (NCD) known as a silent killer because it often shows no symptoms but can cause serious complications and even death. In Indonesia, the prevalence of hypertension continues to increase, even exceeding the global average. This study aims to analyze the spatial distribution of hypertension cases and their characteristics based on gender in the working area of the Tuntungan Community Health Center (UPT Puskesmas Tuntungan) in 2023. The research design used was an ecological study with a spatial analysis approach. Secondary data were obtained from records of hypertension cases based on villages in the working area of the Tuntungan Community Health Center. The analysis was performed descriptively using QGIS and GeoDa software to produce spatial distribution maps and incidence rates (IR). The data were also analyzed based on the characteristics of the patients' gender. The results showed that the total number of hypertension cases in 2023 was 14,452, with a slightly higher proportion of women (51.15%) than men (48.85%). Spatial distribution showed the highest concentration of cases in several villages, such as Salam Tani, Namorih, Tiang Layar, Namo Simpur, and Tengah. The village of Salam Tani recorded the highest percentage of cases at 8.3%. Based on incidence analysis, the villages with the highest IR were Salam Tani, Durin Simbelang, Namo Riam, Durin Tonggal, and Lama, with an IR of 99.2 per 1,000 population. Unhealthy lifestyles, low physical activity, and low socioeconomic status were the main determinants of the high prevalence of hypertension. In addition, there are differences in the distribution of cases based on gender, which indicates the need for an intervention approach that considers gender aspects. These findings indicate that spatial analysis can be an important tool in identifying priority areas for promotional and preventive interventions. Effective hypertension control strategies need to be tailored to the demographic, geographic, and social characteristics of the local community.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Stunting remains a major nutritional problem in Indonesia with a relatively high prevalence, particularly in South Sulawesi. One cause is low nutritional intake in toddlers. Moringa leaves (Moringa oleifera) and eel (Monopterus albus) are local foods rich in protein, iron, and vitamins, but their utilization remains low. This study aims to determine the nutritional content and acceptability of a combination of moringa leaf and eel meatballs as a functional food for stunted toddlers. The study used an experimental design with two formulations: F1 (300 g eel: 30 g moringa leaves) and F2 (150 g eel: 15 g moringa leaves). Nutritional analysis was conducted in the laboratory, while acceptability testing was conducted on 6 mothers and 6 toddlers using a hedonic test. Laboratory test results showed that F1 had a higher protein content (5.68%) than F2 (4.02%), while F2 had higher carbohydrate (26.35%) and energy (125.17 kcal) than F1 (97.48 kcal). Organoleptic tests showed that respondents liked the color and texture of the meatballs (liked), while the aroma and flavor were quite liked. Thus, the combination of moringa leaf and eel meatballs has the potential to be a locally based functional food alternative to support toddler nutrition and can be used as an innovative strategy to reduce stunting rates in Indonesia. Abstract

Diet quality in pregnant women is a crucial factor in supporting maternal health and optimal fetal development. A diverse and balanced diet helps fulfill the increased macronutrient needs during pregnancy. However, many pregnant women in Indonesia, including those in Cangkuang District, Bandung Regency, still fail to meet the recommended dietary diversity. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between diet quality and the nutritional status of pregnant women in Cangkuang District, Bandung Regency. This quantitative study used a cross-sectional design and involved 60 pregnant women selected by convenience sampling. Data were collected using subject characteristic questionnaires, 24-hour food recall forms, and food frequency questionnaires. Diet quality was assessed using the Minimum Dietary Diversity for Women (MDD-W) score. Univariate analysis was used to describe participant characteristics, and the Spearman correlation test was used to analyze the relationship between diet quality and nutritional status. The results showed a significant relationship between diet quality and nutritional status (p ≤ 0.05). A total of 63.3% of the pregnant women had an MDD-W score ≥5, indicating adequate dietary diversity. A diverse diet was significantly associated with better nutritional status among pregnant women. Focused interventions, such as nutrition education and food supplementation, are recommended to improve dietary diversity in this group. Keywords : Pregnant women; diet quality; nutritional status

Abstract

Family planning (KB) is an important strategy to reduce maternal mortality by reducing the number of pregnancies and the proportion of high-risk pregnancies, while enabling family planning and improving quality of life. Although data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) shows fluctuations, the prevalence of active KB participation in Indonesia is not enough to significantly increase contraceptive use, especially in multiparous women. The purpose of this study was to examine the factors that influence contraceptive use in multiparous women in Indonesia. The study design was cross-sectional using secondary data obtained from the 2023 Indonesian Health Survey (SKI). The analysis focused on data from 14,975 multiparous mothers who had filled out the questionnaire. The dependent variable in this study was contraceptive use. Independent variables included age, education level, occupation, insurance ownership, delivery method, pregnancy risk, and history of labor and postpartum complications. Data were analyzed using binomial logistic regression. The results of the study showed that determinant factors such as education level, occupation, delivery method, and history of delivery complications affected the use of contraceptives in multiparous women in general by only 3.1%, while 96.9% were influenced by other factors not included in this model test. Therefore, targeted interventions are very important, including expanding contraceptive education for highly educated women and increasing flexible access to services for informal sector workers, as well as conducting counseling programs especially for women with a history of surgery or delivery with complications, to ensure optimal use of contraceptives

Abstract

Inclusive health services are vital for ensuring equitable access, especially for vulnerable groups such as women, persons with disabilities, the elderly, and children. However, environmental health (Kesling) strategies in many health facilities still emphasize technical aspects, often neglecting gender, disability, and social inclusion (GEDSI). This qualitative study aimed to explore GEDSI-responsive Kesling strategies through Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) involving 33 environmental health officers from various institutions. Data were collected from group discussions, observational notes, and documentation of strategy proposals. Using thematic analysis, researchers identified key ideas and categorized them into three main themes: (1) gender responsive; (2) disability inclusive; and (3) socially inclusion. Proposed interventions included gender-neutral toilets, menstrual hygiene facilities, wheelchair access, child-friendly waiting rooms, and inclusive health education. The study demonstrates that FGD is an effective method to elicit grounded insights and collaborative strategies. It concludes that integrating GEDSI principles into environmental health planning requires not only technical adjustments but also inclusive dialogue with stakeholders.

Abstract

Musculoskeletal disorders are conditions characterized by symptoms ranging from mild discomfort to severe pain in the musculoskeletal area caused by improper work practices. Musculoskeletal complaints affect approximately 1.71 billion people globally and are the leading cause of disability worldwide. Improper manual material handling, such as incorrect lifting and carrying techniques, can exacerbate musculoskeletal symptoms such as pain, discomfort, and sleep disturbances, ultimately reducing productivity—particularly among airport ground handling personnel. Several factors, including age, working posture, body mass index (BMI), and length of employment, may contribute to these complaints. This study aimed to examine the association between age, working posture, BMI, and years of service with musculoskeletal complaints among ground handling workers at the apron area of Mutiara SIS Al-Jufri Airport, Palu, in 2025. A quantitative approach with a cross-sectional study design was employed, involving 41 ground handling personnel selected using a total sampling technique. Data analysis using chi-square and Fisher’s exact tests revealed significant relationships between working posture (p = 0.015) and years of service (p = 0.021) with musculoskeletal complaints, while age (p = 0.130) and BMI (p = 1.000) showed no significant association. It is recommended that workers communicate effectively with their team to distribute workloads, maintain an ideal body weight, implement job rotation, and maintain proper posture when handling materials.
