Abstract

According to ATCS21, critical thinking is crucial for navigating modern complexities, driving innovation, and contributing to society. Research has shown a simultaneous occurrence of metacognitive strategies and high-level cognitive functions like critical thinking, as metacognition helps individuals monitor and adjust their cognitive processes (Mitsea & Drigas, 2019; Yerdelen-Damar & Eryılmaz, 2021). This study aimed to examine the profile of students' critical thinking and metacognition, and their correlation. Using a descriptive survey method, data were collected from 60 junior high school students via the Metacognitive Awareness Inventory (MAI) and Critical Thinking Test (Cronbach's Alpha 0.725). Generally, students' metacognition, in terms of knowledge and regulation, meet an OK criteria, indicating awareness and effective use of learning strategies. While students displayed good abilities in determining assumptions and drawing conclusions while the ability to estimate implications, create questions and determine goals, apply concepts, manage information and differentiate points of view still needs to be improved. Furthermore, there is a positive correlation between students' metacognitive and critical thinking in general. These findings are able to provide valuable insights that can be utilized to enhance the development of metacognitive and critical thinking.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of virtual reality media on student learning outcomes seen from the value of the effect size of published studies. This study used the meta-analysis method, with a group contrast design from experimental research and quasi-experiments that had experimental groups and control groups. The database used is the SCOPUS database. The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) method determines articles. Data collection is carried out by collecting article metadata with specific keywords that have been determined. The article metadata obtained is then sorted based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. The next step is to download a PDF of the article that matches the criteria. The downloaded PDF is tabulated to obtain statistical data in effect size calculations. Calculation of the effect size of each study and data analysis to prove research hypotheses using the R application version 4.2.0 and assisted by the RStudio. The results showed a Q value of 163.54 with a p-value of 0.0001 < α (0.05), so it can be concluded that there is heterogeneity from the observed data regarding the effectiveness of virtual reality media research on learning outcomes. An I2 value of 90.8% indicates substantial heterogeneity categories. For this reason, a random effect size model is used; The results showed a random effect size of 0.6285 with a p-value of 0.0001 < α (0.05). A value of 0.6285 indicates the influence is in the medium category; The results showed that there were differences in the effectiveness of the given continental differences (Q value = 8.24 and p-value 0.02 > α (0.05)). There was no significant difference in the effectiveness of virtual reality media on learning outcomes in terms of education level (Q = 7.39 and p-value 0.02 < α (0.05)); The results showed that the distribution of data showed symmetric, indicating that none of the studies were distorted or article bias occurred.

Abstract

This study explores the strategies implemented by SDN Blimbing Gudo Jombang to cultivate anti-corruption values among primary school students. The school has introduced a structured moral education program guided by the principal, integrating anti-corruption principles into Civic Education (PPKn), daily routines, and school culture. Employing a descriptive qualitative approach, data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation involving the principal, teachers, and students. The findings reveal that the principal plays a central role in directing and supervising character-building initiatives, particularly in promoting honesty, discipline, responsibility, hard work, independence, fairness, courage, and empathy. Anti-corruption values are instilled through subject integration, habituation practices, exemplary behavior by school personnel, and the implementation of a “honesty canteen” as a practical learning medium. The study also identifies supporting factors such as family environment, peer influence, curriculum design, and institutional policies, along with challenges including limited anti-corruption learning resources. This research contributes to the literature on character education by highlighting contextually grounded strategies that strengthen anti-corruption awareness at the primary education level and provides practical insights for schools implementing similar initiatives.

Abstract

The limited use of technology-based learning media often results in monotonous classroom activities, which can negatively affect students’ learning motivation. This study aims to develop an Android-based learning application called PEPOKI, assess its feasibility, and examine its effectiveness in improving students’ motivation in Social Studies, particularly on the topic of Indonesia’s Proclamation of Independence. Employing a Research and Development (R&D) design using the ADDIE model, data were collected through expert validation instruments and student questionnaires. The developed application was evaluated by material experts and media experts, yielding feasibility scores of 82.5% and 91%, respectively—both categorized as “highly feasible.” The effectiveness test involving experimental and control groups showed that the use of PEPOKI significantly increased students’ motivation, as reflected in the N-gain score of 0.35 (moderate category) in the experimental class, compared to 0.22 (low category) in the control class. These findings indicate that the PEPOKI application is both feasible and effective as a learning medium and can serve as an innovative tool to foster greater motivation among fifth-grade students in primary schools.
