Abstract

Mother-to-child transmission (MTCT) of HIV is a pressing global health issue, particularly in regions with limited access to healthcare and education. Although advancements in prevention strategies have significantly reduced transmission rates, knowledge gaps among pregnant women often limit the effectiveness of Prevention of Mother-to-Child Transmission (PMTCT) programs. This study evaluated the impact of PMTCT education on increasing maternal knowledge and fostering adherence to HIV prevention practices.A pre-test and post-test design was implemented with 30 pregnant women attending antenatal care services in a resource-limited setting. Participants completed a knowledge assessment questionnaire before and after a culturally and linguistically tailored PMTCT education session. Data were analyzed using paired ttt-tests to evaluate knowledge improvement and logistic regression to assess changes in adherence intentions. The results showed a significant improvement in knowledge scores, increasing from 42.5% (SD = 11.7%) pre-intervention to 80.3% (SD = 8.9%) post-intervention (t(29) = 10.85, p < 0.001, Cohen's d = 2.01), and behavioral intentions to adhere to PMTCT protocols improved from 40% to 85%. Logistic regression analysis revealed a strong association between higher post-intervention knowledge scores and increased adherence intentions (OR = 5.6, 95% CI = 2.3–13.4, p < 0.001). These findings underscore the importance of integrating structured PMTCT education into antenatal care services to empower mothers, reduce MTCT rates, and enhance adherence to preventive measures. Future research should explore long-term outcomes and the inclusion of family members to amplify intervention impact.

Abstract

Seniors experience various physical, psychological, and social changes that can impact their quality of life. One factor believed to improve their well-being is spirituality. Seniors with high spiritual levels tend to better face life’s challenges, show stronger psychological resilience, and have a higher quality of life. This study aims to examine the relationship between spiritual condition and quality of life among the elderly in UPTD X. An analytical observational design with a cross-sectional approach was used in this study. The sample consisted of 80 elderly individuals selected through Simple Random Sampling from a population of 100. Data were collected using the Daily Spiritual Experience Scale (DSES) questionnaire to measure spiritual condition and the Older People Quality of Life (OPQOL) questionnaire to assess the elderly’s quality of life. Data analysis was conducted using the Spearman Rho Correlation Test due to non-normal distribution. Results show that most seniors have a moderate to high spiritual condition. Those more active in spiritual activities tend to have a better quality of life than those with low spirituality. The correlation test revealed a significant relationship between spiritual condition and quality of life (r = 0.512, p = 0.001), indicating a medium-level correlation. The study concludes that better spiritual conditions lead to higher quality of life. To enhance elderly well-being in social institutions, interventions such as improving religious programs, providing better social support, and training health workers in spiritual guidance are essential.

Abstract

Work experience is a crucial aspect in improving the skills and effectiveness of nurses in carrying out nursing actions. Nurses with longer experience tend to have better competence in clinical decision making and implementing optimal nursing care. However, variations in ability due to work experience still exist, so further research is needed. This study aims to analyze the relationship between work experience and the ability of nurses in carrying out nursing actions at Hospital X. Using a cross-sectional design with a quantitative approach, this study involved 120 inpatient nurses selected through proportional random sampling techniques. Data were collected using a questionnaire that had been tested for validity and reliability, then analyzed univariately and bivariately using the Spearman test. The results showed that 70.8% of nurses had high work experience, 29.2% moderate, and none were low. In terms of ability, 65% of nurses were categorized as good, 31.7% sufficient, and 3.3% lacking. The Spearman test showed a significant and strong relationship (p = 0.000; r = 0.712) between work experience and nurse ability. This means that the higher the work experience, the better the nurse's ability. It is recommended that hospitals develop ongoing training, supervision, and mentoring programs to improve the competency of nurses with lower work experience. Thus, the quality of nursing services can be continuously improved to support patient safety and satisfaction.

Abstract

Adolescent girls frequently experience dysmenorrhea, characterized by painful menstrual cramps that can disrupt daily routines, academic performance, and overall well‑being. Limited awareness of effective prevention and self‑care strategies often exacerbates the severity of symptoms, underscoring the need for comprehensive education on menstrual pain management. This study aims to determine the level of knowledge of adolescent girls about dysmenorrhea and its relationship with factors such as Body Mass Index (BMI), diet, menstrual duration, and menstrual cycle. Methods: This study used a quantitative descriptive design with a cross-sectional approach. A total of 85 female adolescent respondents were included in this study. Data were collected through questionnaires and analyzed in the form of frequency distribution. Results: The results showed that 67.1% of respondents had a sufficient level of knowledge about dysmenorrhea. A total of 25.9% of respondents experienced dysmenorrhea, and the majority of them had a sufficient level of knowledge. The majority of respondents had normal BMI (48.2%), a regular diet (71.8%), menstrual duration < 7 days (85.9%), and a regular menstrual cycle (70.6%), with most in each category showing a sufficient level of knowledge. Conclusion: Adolescent girls generally have a moderate level of knowledge about dysmenorrhea, which appears to be influenced by nutritional status, diet, and menstrual patterns. Improving reproductive health education can help enhance their ability to manage dysmenorrhea effectively.

Abstract

The performance of paramedics, especially nurses and midwives, is essential to the quality of hospital health services. This study aims to examine the influence of interpersonal communication, professionalism, and competence on the monitoring system and nurse performance at at Dr. H. Soewondo Kendal Regional Hospital. Using a quantitative approach with SEM-PLS and WarpPLS 5.0, data from 110 paramedics (92 nurses and 18 midwives) were analyzed. The results show that interpersonal communication, professionalism, and competence significantly influence the monitoring system (R² = 0.79), which in turn positively affects nurse performance (R² = 0.73). However, competence does not have a significant direct effect on performance without the mediation of the monitoring system. These findings suggest that improving internal factors along with an effective monitoring system can enhance overall paramedic performance and support hospital management in optimizing human resources.
