Abstract

Pressure ulcers are conditions characterized by damage to the anatomical structure and normal function of the skin caused by continuous external pressure on prominent bony areas. This study was conducted to determine the effect of a combination of effleurage massage and Nigella sativa oil on reducing the risk of pressure ulcer development. Pressure ulcers are a common nursing problem, particularly among individuals with limited mobility and those undergoing prolonged bed rest. This study employed a quantitative approach using a quasi-experimental one-group design with post-intervention measurement. The sample consisted of 18 respondents who met the inclusion criteria and were determined using the Federer formula. All respondents received an intervention in the form of a combination of effleurage massage and Nigella sativa oil in accordance with established procedures. The risk of pressure ulcer development was assessed after the intervention using a standardized risk assessment instrument. The data were analyzed using appropriate statistical tests. The results showed a statistically significant reduction in the risk of pressure ulcer development after the intervention, with a p-value of 0.003. This study concludes that the combination of effleurage massage and Nigella sativa oil has a significant effect on reducing the risk of pressure ulcers.

Abstract

Students’ academic success is strongly influenced by their ability to maintain optimal learning concentration. A study conducted at SDN Plosomalang 02 Pati indicates that most students experience difficulties in maintaining focus, which are associated with irregular breakfast habits. This study aims to analyze the relationship between breakfast habits and learning concentration among students in grades 3–6 at SDN Plosomalang 02 Pati. The research employed a quantitative design with a cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of the entire population of students in grades 3–6, totaling 68 participants, selected using a total sampling technique. The research instruments included a breakfast habits questionnaire and the Grid Concentration Test (GCT) to measure learning concentration. Data analysis was performed using the Spearman Rank correlation test to determine the relationship between variables. The results showed that the majority of students had breakfast habits in the “moderate” category (86.8%) and learning concentration levels in the “low” category (54.4%). Bivariate analysis demonstrated a positive and statistically significant relationship between breakfast habits and learning concentration (p-value = 0.007; R = 0.294). This indicates a significant relationship with weak correlation strength between breakfast habits and learning concentration. Therefore, schools and parents are encouraged to enhance their awareness and facilitate regular, nutritious breakfast consumption in order to optimize students’ concentration abilities and academic potential

Abstract

This study examined anxiety levels among new Islamic junior high school (MTs) students during adaptation to a new boarding school environment at Pondok Modern Darul Arqam Patean, Kendal. Using a quantitative descriptive-comparative design, total sampling was applied to 212 respondents who met inclusion criteria. Anxiety was assessed using the validated and reliable Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7 (GAD-7) questionnaire. Descriptive analysis indicated that most students experienced severe anxiety, while moderate anxiety was observed in a smaller proportion and mild anxiety appeared rarely. Inferential analysis employed an Independent t-test to compare anxiety scores by gender and One-Way ANOVA to test differences across regions of origin. Results revealed a statistically significant difference in anxiety between male and female students. Regional origin also showed significant differences, and the Games–Howell post hoc test indicated that students from Kendal had significantly higher anxiety compared to those from Pekalongan, Temanggung, Banjarnegara, and Batang, while differences with students from outside Java were not significant. These findings highlight the importance of demographic-sensitive psychosocial interventions to support adaptation among new boarding school students.

Abstract

Acute Respiratory Infection (ARI) remains one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality among children under five, especially in developing countries. Exposure to cigarette smoke within the household environment is a major risk factor contributing to ARI incidence in toddlers. Parents’ smoking duration reflects long-term exposure that may increase susceptibility to respiratory infections in young children. High ARI cases reported at Bangetayu Health Center indicate the need to further investigate contributing household factors, including smoking duration. This study employed a quantitative analytic design with a cross-sectional approach. A total of 144 respondents were selected through purposive sampling. Smoking duration data were collected using a structured questionnaire, while ARI status was obtained from the MTBS (Integrated Management of Childhood Illness) records at the health center. Data were analyzed using the Chi-Square test to determine the relationship between variables. Most respondents were categorized as heavy smokers with a smoking duration of more than 10 years (76.4%). The majority of toddlers (85.4%) were recorded as having ARI. Statistical analysis revealed a significant relationship between parents’ smoking duration and ARI incidence (p = 0.031). Toddlers whose parents were heavy smokers had the highest proportion of ARI cases (88.2%). There is a significant correlation between parents’ smoking duration and the incidence of ARI among toddlers. Longer smoking duration increases the child’s risk of developing ARI.

Abstract

Burnout is a condition of physical, emotional, and mental exhaustion frequently experienced by nurses due to high work demands, particularly in outpatient units with large patient volumes and rapid service intensity. This condition can affect nurses’ performance, attitudes, and interactions in providing nursing care, thereby potentially reducing the quality of services perceived by patients. This study aimed to determine the relationship between burnout among outpatient nurses and the quality of patient services. This study employed a quantitative method with a cross-sectional design. The research population consisted of outpatient nurses and patients, with a sample of 20 nurses and 100 patients selected using purposive sampling techniques. Data were collected using a nurse burnout questionnaire measuring emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and personal accomplishment, as well as a patient service quality questionnaire based on the dimensions of reliability, responsiveness, assurance, empathy, and tangibles. Data analysis was conducted using univariate and bivariate analyses with the Gamma test. The results showed that most outpatient nurses experienced a moderate level of burnout, while the majority of patients perceived the quality of services as high. Bivariate analysis indicated a significant relationship between nurses’ burnout levels and the quality of outpatient services. Lower levels of nurse burnout were associated with better quality of services perceived by patients.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the relationship between picky eating behavior and nutritional status among adolescents at SMP Negeri 20 Semarang. A cross-sectional design was conducted involving 264 students aged 12–15 years. Picky eating behavior and nutritional status were assessed using structured questionnaires and anthropometric measurements. Data were analyzed using Spearman correlation tests due to non-normal data distribution. The results showed that 62.1% of respondents were classified as picky eaters, while 59.1% had abnormal nutritional status, including underweight, overweight, and obesity. Statistical analysis revealed a significant relationship between picky eating behavior and nutritional status (p = 0.003) with a negative correlation coefficient (r = −0.183), indicating that higher picky eating behavior tended to be associated with lower nutritional status. Adolescents with picky eating behavior were more likely to experience inadequate nutrient intake, which may affect growth and development during a critical period of adolescence. Although the strength of the relationship was weak, picky eating behavior remains an important behavioral factor influencing adolescent nutritional status. Comprehensive nutritional education and behavioral interventions are needed to improve dietary quality and prevent long-term nutritional problems among adolescents.

Abstract

Stunting remains a major public health problem that requires early preventive efforts, including health education targeting adolescents. This study aimed to analyze the effect of animated video reels and leaflet media on adolescents’ knowledge regarding stunting prevention at SMA Kesatrian 1 Semarang. A quasi-experimental design with a two-group pretest–posttest approach was applied, involving 140 students divided into an intervention group and a control group. The intervention group received health education using animated video reels, while the control group received leaflet-based education. Knowledge levels were measured using a validated questionnaire before and after the intervention. The Wilcoxon test showed a significant increase in knowledge in both groups, with a p-value of 0.000 in the intervention group and 0.001 in the control group. The Mann–Whitney U test revealed a significant difference in knowledge improvement between groups (p = 0.004), with a higher median score increase in the intervention group. These findings indicate that animated video reels are more effective than leaflets in improving adolescents’ knowledge of stunting prevention. Integrating digital-based educational media is recommended to strengthen school-based stunting prevention programs

Abstract

Hemodialysis is the primary therapy for patients with chronic kidney disease to maintain survival. The success of hemodialysis therapy is influenced by several factors, including comorbidities and hemodialysis adequacy. Comorbid conditions may increase the risk of complications, while hemodialysis adequacy plays an important role in determining therapeutic effectiveness and patient prognosis. This study aimed to determine the relationship between comorbidities and hemodialysis adequacy with survival rates among hemodialysis patients at Sultan Agung Islamic Hospital, Semarang. This quantitative study employed a cross-sectional design. A total of 175 hemodialysis patients were selected using purposive sampling. Survival analysis was performed using the Kaplan–Meier method to evaluate differences in survival rates based on comorbidities and hemodialysis adequacy. The results showed that most respondents had diabetes mellitus as a comorbidity (64.6%), adequate hemodialysis adequacy (58.9%), and were alive during the observation period (65.1%). Kaplan–Meier analysis demonstrated no significant difference in survival rates based on comorbidities, whereas a significant difference in survival rates was observed based on hemodialysis adequacy. Comorbidities were not associated with survival rate, while hemodialysis adequacy was significantly associated with survival rate among hemodialysis patients. Adequate hemodialysis is essential to improve patient survival.
