Abstract

Adolescent emotional development can be enhanced by effectively managing conflicts in everyday life, such as those encountered on social media. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of Gestalt group counseling with Rehearsal techniques and Reality group counseling with Expressive Writing techniques in mitigating anger emotions in students' social media interactions. Conducted as an experimental research with a pre-test-post-test two-treatment design, the study utilized purposive sampling to select 16 eighth-grade students from State Junior High School 2 Wagir, Malang Regency, Indonesia who demonstrated high levels of anger in social media. The participants were divided into two groups: one receiving Gestalt group counseling with Rehearsal techniques and the other Reality group counseling with Expressive Writing techniques. Data on anger emotions were collected using a specific anger instrument and analyzed with a t-Test. The findings indicate that: (1) Gestalt group counseling with Rehearsal techniques is effective in reducing anger emotions in students on social media; (2) Reality group counseling with Expressive Writing techniques is effective in reducing anger emotions in students on social media; (3) Gestalt group counseling with Rehearsal techniques is more effective than Reality group counseling with Expressive Writing techniques in reducing anger emotions in students on social media. The outcomes of this research may provide school counselors and researchers with additional references for the application of Gestalt group counseling in reducing anger emotions in social media among students.

Abstract

Career adaptability is the ability of individuals to prepare themselves to complete various predicted tasks and engage in work roles, as well as to handle unexpected problems that arise due to transitions in the workplace. This research and development aims to develop a guidance handbook using an experiential learning model to enhance the career adaptability of vocational school students. This research is a research and development using the ADDIE model (analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation). The results of the expert test assessment and prospective users applied inter-rater agreement data analysis. Furthermore, the product effectiveness test was analyzed using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test method. Based on the validation of material experts, media, and prospective users, as well as the effectiveness test for students, it can be concluded that the guide is very high in validity according to the aspect of acceptability. Thus, it can be concluded that the guidance handbook using an experiential learning model to enhance the career adaptability of vocational school students is suitable for use.

Abstract

These four causes of phubbing—smartphone addiction, internet addiction, social media addiction, and gaming addiction—are interconnected. The purpose of this article is to develop an instrument that counselors can use to determine the level of phubbing behavior among students in their school by testing its validity and reliability. The steps taken include: (1) determining aspects of the phubbing behavior scale, (2) formulating phubbing behavior scale indicators, (3) formulating phubbing behavior scale descriptors, (4) compiling phubbing behavior scale statement items, (5) testing validity, and (6) testing the reliability of the instrument. The 143 respondents consisted of students from several schools, including Maharani Pharmacy Vocational School Malang, National Vocational School Malang, State Senior High School 1 Gambiran, Widyagama High School Malang, Dr. Soetomo High School, and Vocational High School Darissulaimaniyyah. All respondent schools were located in East Java, Indonesia. After obtaining data from the students, it was analyzed using IBM SPSS Statistics 26 to test the validity and reliability of the phubbing behavior scale. The phubbing behavior scale indicators were derived from aspects such as communication disorders and obsession with cell phones. The scale, initially composed of 23 statement items, was found to have one invalid item, number 13, after testing. Thus, the remaining valid items totaled 22.

Abstract

This study investigates the potential influence of self-control and self-regulation on Fear of Missing Out (FoMO) among students. FoMO is characterized by an apprehension of being excluded from significant experiences or opportunities. Individuals with low self-control may struggle to prioritize positive behaviors, potentially leading to heightened FoMO. Similarly, a lack of self-regulation, the ability to manage thoughts and guide actions towards goals, might exacerbate FoMO. The current research employs a quantitative, descriptive correlational design. The study population comprised 2,245 students from the Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training at Institut Agama Islam Negeri Kerinci. A sample of 304 participants, representing 10 departments, was selected. Data collection utilized three validated scales: the Self-Control Scale, the Self-Regulation Questionnaire, and the Fear of Missing Out Scale. The hypothesis proposing a significant negative association between self-control/self-regulation and FoMO was supported (p < 0.05). This suggests that both self-control and self-regulation have a combined effect on FoMO. In simpler terms, individuals with greater self-control and self-regulation may experience lower levels of FoMO. Future research could explore specific factors contributing to FoMO development. Additionally, expanding the sample size might enhance the generalizability of findings.

Abstract

Bullying is a deeply concerning issue within the education sector in Indonesia, posing serious threats to the well-being of students. The impacts of bullying can be severe, leading to fatal outcomes for victims or causing lasting psychological effects for survivors. A particular area of concern is bullying in boarding schools, where students are frequently involved in social interactions. This research aims to develop a psychoeducational program incorporating Madurese values for use in boarding schools. The study employed a research and development methodology following the ADDIE model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation). The subjects of this research included content experts, cultural experts, media experts, and potential users, specifically guidance and counseling teachers, with data collected using a product acceptability scale. The collected data were analyzed using the inter-rater agreement model. The research and development process were conducted to achieve both theoretical and practical acceptability of the product. The results indicated that the product was highly acceptable to content experts, cultural experts, media experts, and potential users, demonstrating high accuracy, usefulness, attractiveness, and ease of use across all evaluated aspects.

Abstract

This study aims to ascertain the influence of peer attachment and self-regulated learning on the academic flow of students at Muhammadiyah senior high schools in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. This study employed a quantitative research methodology. The study sample consisted of 255 twelfth-grade students of the Muhammadiyah High Schools, selected using the stratified random sampling technique. For the measurement, three psychological scales were employed, including the academic flow scale, the peer attachment scale, and the self-regulated learning (SRL) scale. The data were analyzed using multiple linear regression, with the assistance of the SPSS for Windows 23.0 program. The results of the primary hypothesis yielded an R-squared value of 0.603 with a p-value of 0.000 (p < 0.01), indicating that peer attachment and self-regulated learning exert a significant influence on academic flow. The first minor hypothesis test yielded a t-value of 2.189, with a p-value of 0.030, which is less than 0.05. The second minor hypothesis test yielded a t-value of 9.779 and a p-value of 0.000, indicating a statistically significant result (p < 0.01). The statistical results demonstrate that peer attachment and self-regulated learning have a significant impact on academic flow, with each factor exerting a positive influence. The results demonstrate that self-regulated learning makes a significant contribution to academic flow, accounting for 32.67% of the variance. Similarly, peer attachment is found to have a notable impact on academic flow, explaining 3.70% of the variation.

Abstract

The management function in guidance and counseling must be carried out carefully, including in the development of guidance and counseling materials for students. The aim of this research is to provide an overview of the management function in developing guidance and counseling materials in one of the schools in Tasikmalaya, Indonesia. This research is qualitative in nature, the respondents of this research are school counselors in junior high school and vocational high schools with a case study design, data collection through semi-structured interviews and data analysis in the form of data reduction, data presentation and drawing conclusions. The results of this research indicate that the application of management functions in the development of guidance and counseling materials is very important to ensure the effectiveness of guidance and counseling programs in schools. The challenges felt by respondents were limited facilities, time allocation and varying roles between teaching other subjects and guidance and counseling. The implementation of management functions cannot be separated from the support and involvement of school officials, so that in overcoming these challenges, support from school officials is considered important in providing guidance and counseling materials.

Abstract

Improving public speaking skills is necessary to help students build self-confidence, enhance communication skills, and support their education and careers. This research uses a qualitative method where the researcher is the key instrument, with purposive sampling of data sources and triangulation techniques for data collection. The study finds that: (1) The use of Virtual Reality (VR) during individual counseling for middle school students significantly aids in improving public speaking skills, as evidenced by the change from 0% in initial observations of public speaking skills before VR counseling to 75% after VR counseling, and from 8.3% to 66.6% in the second client. (2) VR counseling impacts students by boosting their public speaking skills and encouraging them to improve academically and non-academically. (3) VR counseling proves to enhance public speaking abilities in terms of verbal communication, vocal control, and visual expression, with students demonstrating clearer language and structure, better volume regulation, and improved self-expression in public.

Abstract

The main purpose of this study is to find out how students perceive the learning media provided during lectures. Learning media is one of the most important tools in learning. Less interesting learning media will make students not interested in learning. This research takes the form of a qualitative case study using face-to-face interviews and administering questionnaires with participants, as data collection tools. The subjects of the research are 67 students in semesters V and VII in the Guidance and Counseling Study Program. The sampling technique used is purposive sampling. The results of the study show that students' perception of the media that has been used in the RIASEC-based interest, talent and character mapping course is a learning media that is not interesting, less varied, tends to be boring, such as the use of PowerPoint. Students' perception of the media that should be used for the course is a learning medium that can attract students' interest in learning, such as the use of multimethod and interactive multimedia, e-books that contain examples of the application of important and more detailed materials.

Abstract

There are numerous factors that drive adolescents to smoke, one of which is the presence of negative or irrational thoughts related to smoking behavior itself. Such thoughts include beliefs that smoking makes them appear more masculine, more accepted within their social circles, among other irrational perceptions. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) using cognitive restructuring techniques in a group setting to reduce smoking frequency in adolescents by addressing their irrational thought patterns. A quantitative experimental method was employed, using a pretest-posttest control group design. A total of 8 students were randomly assigned to two groups. Data analysis was conducted using parametric statistical tests, specifically the independent sample t-test and the correlated/paired sample t-test. The results indicate that cognitive restructuring techniques applied in group setting significantly reduce smoking behavior among adolescents.
