Abstract

ABSTRACT The authenticity and codification of the Qur’an remain central debates in contemporary Qur’anic studies. John Wansbrough’s historical theory posits the Qur’an as a product of prolonged communal redaction, completed long after the Prophet Muhammad. In contrast, M. Quraish Shihab argues for a systematic transmission grounded in revelation, collective memorization, and historical verification. This study critically examines the methodological assumptions of Wansbrough’s theory and reconstructs Shihab’s epistemological framework on Qur’anic authenticity and codification. Using qualitative hermeneutic library research with a comparative approach, this study analyzes primary and secondary sources through textual analysis, codicology, and qirāʾāt studies. Findings show that Wansbrough’s theory suffers from three main weaknesses: uncritical application of biblical criticism to Islamic tradition, neglect of oral transmission, and excessive historical inference with limited manuscript engagement. Conversely, Shihab develops an integrative epistemology combining revelation, rational inquiry, and linguistic analysis. The critical dialogue between both perspectives leads to a Synthetic Qur’anic Epistemology comprising transcendental, historical-transmissional, and textual-linguistic dimensions. This study contributes an interdisciplinary model integrating philology, codicology, radiocarbon analysis, and sanad-qirāʾāt studies to balance academic rigor with the epistemological foundations of Islamic revelatory tradition. Abstract

This study aims to analyze the paradox of French secularism or laïcité, which promises universal equality but instead results in structural exclusion for Muslim communities. Using a qualitative approach with a literature review, this research applies Philippe Bourbeau's securitization theory framework to examine various legal documents, public policy texts, and media discourse from 1905 to 2023. The main findings show that the principle of laïcité has undergone a transformation of function from a foundation of state neutrality to an instrument of securitization that legitimizes institutionalized Islamophobia. Data analysis reveals that state and media actors systematically frame Muslim identities and their religious attributes as an existential threat to republican values, leading to social alienation. This study concludes that national cohesion can only be achieved through a paradigm shift from a security approach to an inclusive model of secularism based on human rights that accommodates pluralism without discrimination. The novelty lies in integrating postcolonial critique with Bourbeau’s securitization to explain gendered Islamophobia in French laïcité. Keywords : Laïcité, Structural Islamophobia, France.

Abstract

The construction of religious identity among minority Islamic organizations within Indonesia’s religious moderation landscape represents a complex and continuously negotiated terrain. This article presents a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) of 30 national and international journal articles to map how academic literature constructs the religious identity of Lembaga Dakwah Islam Indonesia (LDII) amid the tension between inherited historical stigma and demands to adapt to religious moderation discourse. Drawing on Berger-Luckmann’s Social Construction theory and Goffman’s Stigma theory, qualitative thematic synthesis produced three main themes: construction of stigma and exclusivism labeling; dynamics of adaptation and identity renegotiation; and LDII’s positioning within the hegemony of national religious moderation discourse. Findings reveal that LDII’s religious identity is fluid, negotiated, and contextual not a static entity imprisoned by historical stigma. LDII actively responds to stigmatization through institutional transformation, social philanthropy, and theological reorientation toward moderation. This study contributes to the sociology of religion in Indonesia by offering a discursive map that transcends the stigma-adaptation dichotomy, and implies the urgency of more inclusive religious moderation policies for all Islamic movement entities in Indonesia.

Abstract

ABSTRACT This library research is motivated by the integrity crisis of the digital era and the imbalance of hard skills without moral maturity among the younger generation. This study aims to formulate the integration of ideal characters using the Thematic Exegesis (Maudhu’i) method on the twin pillars of Al-Qawiy (competence) and Al-Amin (integrity). The primary data refer to Surah Al-Qashas: 26, Surah An-Naml: 39, as well as the authoritative exegesis books of Al-Misbah, Al-Azhar, and Ibn Kathir. A qualitative approach with interpretive hermeneutics is used to synthesize textual meanings into operational indicators. The results show that Al-Qawiy and Al-Amin are universal complementary pillars. The Al-Qawiy character is transformed into professional capability, digital proficiency, and mental resilience. Meanwhile, Al-Amin is manifested in integrity, transparency, and work accountability. The reactualization of these twin pillars is effective as a concrete solution to break structural corruption and business ethics manipulation. This formulation can be adopted as a standard operating procedure (SOP) for the work ethics of young entrepreneurs and academic instructional materials. Abstract

This study aims to analyze family communication messages of da’wah in the Islam Itu Indah program delivered by Ustaz Maulana on the Islam Itu Indah Official YouTube channel. The research employs qualitative content analysis with a phenomenological approach to understand the meaning, context, and experiences embedded in da’wah messages. Data in the form of sermon videos were analyzed descriptively following Huberman’s model: data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The study focuses on three main themes: the concept of “the highest throne at home”, “mami papi gen z is on fire”, and “husbands should not be stingy to wives”. Findings reveal that da’wah messages do not emphasize hierarchical or dominant family relationships, but rather present a husband-wife partnership built on cooperation, deliberation, and shared responsibility. The effectiveness of message delivery is influenced by the preacher’s interactive communication style, spontaneous humor, strong nonverbal expressions, and the use of popular language relatable to the audience’s daily life. The findings confirm that da’wah through television and social media serves a dual function: conveying religious norms while acting as adaptive education responsive to the dynamics of modern family life, thereby strengthening awareness of the family as a harmonious spiritual partnership space.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the implementation of the Al-Barzanji recitation tradition and to identify the moral education values embedded within it in Nglegok Hamlet, Kranding Village, Mojo District, Kediri Regency. This research employed a descriptive qualitative approach. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, and analyzed using the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña, which includes data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that the Al-Barzanji recitation tradition is still regularly practiced in various religious and social activities within the community. This tradition functions not only as a religious ritual but also as a medium for moral education. The moral values identified include devotion to Allah SWT, respect for Prophet Muhammad SAW, obedience to parents, responsibility toward children and family, and positive social behavior. These values are internalized through the recitation and appreciation of the exemplary life stories of Prophet Muhammad SAW contained in the Al-Barzanji text. Furthermore, the tradition contributes to strengthening social solidarity, preserving religious identity, and maintaining local Islamic cultural heritage amid social change. Abstract

Sufism, as a tradition of Islamic mysticism, places the human spiritual journey at the core of the divine quest. This article focuses on the experience of Baqa, the continuity of consciousness after the annihilation of the Fana self. As a phenomenon that can be analyzed through Husserl's Epoche method, which suspends empirical worldly assumptions to reveal the pure structure of consciousness. The main argument is that Baqa and Epoche have parallel phenomenological structures, both requiring self-suspension so that deeper realities can be authentically present. This study aims to examine how Husserl's phenomenological framework can function as an analytical instrument to understand Sufi mystical experience in the context of contemporary Muslim thought. Using a qualitative approach based on a literature review (Library Research), this study integrates three analytical perspectives: the hermeneutics of classical Sufi texts, the psychology of spiritual experience, and a socio-anthropological examination of Mysticism as a cultural phenomenon. These findings demonstrate that the Husserlian Phenomenological approach is not only methodologically relevant, but opens up new epistemic spaces for contemporary Muslim thought to critically and transformatively reflect on its Sufi spiritual heritage. Abstract

ABSTRACT Digital transformation has altered hadith learning practices in pesantren. This study analyzes the dynamics of meaning construction of hadith learning in the digital era among students of Ma’had Aly Hasyim Asy’ari Tebuireng Jombang using Symbolic Interactionism. Employing a qualitative case study, data were collected through 2 months of participant observation, in-depth interviews with 12 students and 3 lecturers, and documentation. The findings reveal that digital technology does not replace traditional authority but is negotiated hierarchically. Turāth books, sanad, and the kiai figure remain the primary significant symbols of scholarship. Digital media such as apps and the internet are interpreted as secondary instrumental symbols whose legitimacy depends on lecturer guidance. Three processes were identified: 1) critical selection of digital source validity, 2) mediation by kiai/lecturer authority, and 3) technological adaptation within pesantren ethics. The novelty lies in mapping meaning construction from the pesantren actors’ perspective, showing that digital transformation is adaptive rather than disruptive. This contributes to contemporary hadith studies and pesantren education discourse. Keywords : Symbolic Interactionism; Ma'had Aly; Hadith Learning; Digital Transformation; Scholarly Authority.

Abstract

ABSTRACT This study aims to analyze the construction of internal motivation in memorizing the Qur'an among students participating in the Tahfidz Program at Madrasah Aliyah Unggulan KH. Abd. Wahab Hasbullah, Tambakberas, Jombang. A qualitative approach with a phenomenological design was employed to explore the participants' lived experiences in developing their motivation for Qur'an memorization throughout the Tahfidz program. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation involving Tahfidz students, the program coordinator, and Qur'an teachers as research participants. Data were analyzed interactively using the Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña model, encompassing data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing and verification. The findings reveal that internal motivation is constructed through four interrelated dimensions: a conducive learning environment, perseverance in coping with academic demands, future orientation, and an intrinsic need to continuously engage with the Qur'an. These dimensions are fostered through a structured Tahfidz program characterized by continuous mentoring, reflective evaluation, and the habituation of Qur'anic practices. The study concludes that the effectiveness of Tahfidz education depends not only on memorization methods but also on the institution's capacity to establish a supportive learning ecosystem that sustains students' internal motivation and enhances the overall quality of Tahfidz education.
