A total of 81.15% of respondents rated the role of extension workers as very good in supporting the process of rice farming. Extension workers are not only a source of information but also active companions who encourage farmers to adopt modern technologies such as the jajar legowo planting system, balanced fertilization, and the use of pest-resistant superior varieties. This success is supported by the extension workers' ability to build effective communication, understand local needs, and apply participatory methods that motivate farmers to be independent and innovative. The combination of their roles as facilitators, innovators, motivators, and educators significantly enhances farmers' productivity, participation, and well-being, while also providing a mentoring model that can be replicated in other agricultural areas to achieve sustainable rice farming.

Abstract

As a predominantly agrarian nation with a pivotal function in rice production, Indonesia is confronted with the challenges of enhancing productivity and ensuring food security. It is therefore essential to strengthen the role of agricultural extension workers as agents of change in order to enhance farmers' capacity, which is currently suboptimal, particularly in Baruga Village, due to low technology adoption, limited knowledge, and insufficient extension support. The present study was designed using a quantitative approach with a survey research design. The study population consists of all paddy farmers in Baruga Village, totalling 280 individuals. The sample size was determined using the Slovin formula, which resulted in a sample size of 73 respondents. The selection of the samples was conducted through the utilisation of a simple random sampling method. The data was collected through several methods, including surveys, interviews, a literature review, and documentation. The research variables were the role of agricultural extension workers and the capacity of irrigated rice farmers. The analysis was conducted using a quantitative descriptive approach. The findings of the study suggest that the function of agricultural extension workers in Baruga Village, Baruga Subdistrict, Kendari City, remains in the low category whether as educators, motivators, or facilitators and thus has not been optimal in supporting the enhancement of irrigated rice farmers' capacity. Conversely, farmers' capacity is predominantly in the moderate category, signifying that farmers possess fundamental farming skills but are not yet equipped to fully implement technical, managerial, adaptive, and partnership aspects. This situation indicates a correlation between the limited role of extension workers and the suboptimal capacity of farmers; therefore, a more intensive, systematic, and sustainable strengthening of the extension workers' role is necessary to improve the performance and productivity of irrigated rice farming.

Abstract

Feed is the largest cost component in smallholder livestock farming, accounting for more than 70% of total production expenses. Therefore, efforts to improve efficiency through the utilization of locally available, high-nutrient feed materials have become a key strategy to enhance farmers' welfare. Cajanus cajan (pigeon pea) is one of the promising tropical forages that can serve as a substitute for concentrate feed due to its high crude protein content, ease of cultivation, and potential to reduce methane emissions. This study aims to examine the contribution of adopting Cajanus cajan-based feed processing technology to livestock productivity and the economic empowerment of small-scale farmers. The research employed Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) and structured interviews. The findings indicate that Cajanus cajan leaves can be effectively adopted by farmers, supporting self-sufficiency in feed production and reducing costs by up to 30%. From a socio-economic perspective, the adoption of this technology contributes to increased income, strengthens farmer group capacities, and promotes the development of markets for livestock products based on natural forages. While awareness and interest levels among farmers reached approximately 95%, the rate of sustained adoption remains below 40%, indicating the need for institutional support and ongoing training. Thus, the adoption of Cajanus cajan feed technology is not only technically and economically relevant but also aligns with the broader agenda of sustainable tropical livestock development. These findings demonstrate that the use of local resources can serve as an effective solution to the high cost of commercial feed. Furthermore, enhancing farmers’ knowledge and skills in feed processing is crucial to ensure the successful implementation of this innovation.

Abstract

This study aims to find out industrial activities in Punggawukawu Village, Benua District, South Konawe Regency (Case Study of PT. Karya Alam Perdana). The selection of the research location was taken based on several considerations, namely Punggawukawu Village is a village closest to PT. Karya Alam Perdana and Punggawukawu Village have the potential for oil palm plants. The population in this study is 53 oil palm farmers. The sampling technique used in the study is a census method that requires the declaration of the entire population, resulting in a research sample of 53 oil palm farmers. Data was collected through survey techniques, interviews, literature reviews and documentation. The variables observed in the research on industrial activities of PT. Karya Alam Perdana consists of labor acceptance, transportation facilities, purchase of raw materials and environmental processing. The data was analyzed using a quantitative descriptive analysis method which was processed using the class interval formula. The results of the study show that industrial activities are classified as moderate. Industrial Activities of PT. Karya Alam Perdana is in the medium category because only the indicators of raw material purchases are doing well. The presence of this industry increases the selling price of palm oil for oil palm farmers. However, three indicators have not been implemented, namely the acceptance of labor which is now more selective, the lack of transportation facilities for crops and the suboptimal environmental treatment as well as the transparency of the Corporate Program Responsibility (CSR) program. The industrial activity of PT. Karya Alam Perdana needs to prioritize local labor, provide transportation for farmers, and implement Corporate Program Responsibility (CSR) transparently to improve efficiency and relationships with oil palm farmers in Punggawukawu Village Benua District South Konawe Regency.

Abstract

Marketing communication has a vital role in developing MSMEs, especially in MSME producers of siwalan sugar. However, marketing communication remains a hurdle in the development of siwalan sugar MSMEs in Prenduan Village. This is due to the still weak capacity of human resources in implementing marketing communication, as well as the lack of information about siwalan sugar in the marketing process. This research aims to describe the capacity of marketing communication, analyze the factors affecting the capacity of marketing communication among siwalan sugar entrepreneurs, and analyze the impact of marketing communication capacity on marketing performance. This research is quantitative supported by qualitative data. The research uses a census method with 45 respondents. The results show that the capacity of siwalan sugar entrepreneurs is in the moderate category. Analysis of the capacity of siwalan sugar entrepreneurs is conducted by categorizing capacity into aspects of knowledge (cognitive), attitude (affective), and action (psychomotor). The characteristics of the business are factors that influence the marketing communication capacity of the entrepreneurs. In addition, the capacity of marketing communication affects the marketing performance of siwalan sugar SMEs.

Abstract

The objective of this study is to analyze the marketing decisions that influence the performance of corn farming in Wonuambuteo Village, Lambandia District. The informants in this study are corn farmers residing in Wonuambuteo Village. The informants were selected using purposive sampling, based on criteria established by the researcher. Consequently, the study encompassed 35 corn farmers. The present study employed a qualitative approach. The data were collected through a combination of observation and in-depth interviews. The objective of this study is to examine the factors that influence farming performance, marketing decisions, and the income of corn farmers. The analysis of research data was conducted using qualitative descriptive analysis. The present study employed a qualitative descriptive analysis, which was conducted through three stages: data reduction, data analysis, and data interpretation. Specialized analysis was also conducted using an income formula. The results of the study show that corn farming performance in Wonuambuteo Village has shown positive results thanks to the use of agricultural tools that support efficiency and productivity. Farmers utilize tools such as tractors, high-quality seeds, fertilizers, and harvesting tools that help increase land productivity and reduce working hours. Additionally, marketing decisions have a significant impact on farming performance, with marketing facilities such as traditional and modern markets providing sales channels for corn products. Farmers with land areas of 2.50–3.00 hectares achieve the highest income, ranging from Rp13,000,000 to Rp15,000,000, indicating that increasing land area contributes to improved efficiency and better production outcomes.
