Abstract

Writing articles is a crucial issue for university students. Throughout their studies, students are faced with assignments related to scientific articles, ranging from reviewing articles to writing them as assignments or as requirements for graduation. This challenge is a necessity for them, requiring in-depth training. This seminar aims to equip students with the understanding and skills to write effective articles. Eighty-three participants from various universities in East Lombok participated in the seminar. The event took place at Hamzanwadi University, East Lombok. The seminar included material delivery, discussion, and a question-and-answer session. The material was divided into two separate sessions. The first session explained the content of scientific articles, and the second session discussed writing errors and proper publication procedures in target journals. The event went well and smoothly. Participants responded positively, gaining a deeper understanding of article writing. This activity was highly relevant to students' needs. Participants' apprehension about writing was reduced, and their confidence increased. The conclusion of the event was an increase in participants' understanding and skills of writing scientific articles, from the initial writing process to the publication process.

Abstract

Physics instruction still faces challenges in visualizing abstract concepts, particularly in schools with limited laboratory facilities. This situation results in students being less actively engaged in the learning process and struggling to grasp concepts regarding forms and transformations of energy. This community service initiative aimed to optimize physics instruction at SMA Negeri 7 Mataram by implementing PhET simulations for the topic of energy forms and transformations. The activity involved providing instructional support to 27 students from class XI A2, structured into preparation, implementation, and evaluation phases. Data were collected using observation sheets, student worksheets (LKPD), evaluation questions, and documentation, and were subsequently analyzed descriptively. The results indicate that the implementation of PhET simulations enhanced student engagement, evidenced by active participation in discussions, exploration of the simulations, and the ability to explain the relationships between energy forms and transformations based on their observations. Furthermore, the use of worksheets as exploration guides enabled students to better identify various forms of energy and explain energy transformation processes. Thus, the implementation of PhET simulations effectively supports more interactive physics instruction, aids in visualizing abstract concepts, and serves as a viable virtual laboratory alternative for physics learning in schools.

Abstract

Physics learning on Ohm’s Law material still faces challenges in understanding abstract concepts and limitations in conducting practical activities at school. This community service activity aimed to implement PhET simulation-based student worksheets (LKPD) on Ohm’s Law material at SMA Islam Plus Musthofa Kamal as a more interactive and contextual learning alternative. The activity involved 24 eleventh-grade (Grade XI) students. The implementation method consisted of preparation, implementation, and evaluation stages. During the implementation stage, the PhET simulation was displayed using a laptop and projector because students were not allowed to bring mobile phones to school. Students observed the relationship between voltage, electric current, and resistance through the prepared worksheets and were also given the opportunity to directly try the simulation in front of the class. The results showed that the use of PhET-based worksheets increased students’ participation and enthusiasm during the learning process. Students became more active in discussions, observing experiments, and understanding the relationship between voltage, electric current, and resistance according to the concept of Ohm’s Law. Therefore, the implementation of PhET-based worksheets can be used as an effective and engaging alternative physics learning media to support classroom learning.

Abstract

Physics learning is often considered difficult by students because it contains many abstract concepts and complex formulas, especially in the topic of work and energy. One effort to help students understand these concepts is through the utilization of virtual laboratories based on PhET (Physics Education Technology) interactive simulations. This community service activity aimed to assist tenth-grade students of MAN 1 Mataram in utilizing the PhET Energy Skate Park virtual laboratory in physics learning. The method used was learning assistance through group discussions supported by student worksheets (LKPD) based on virtual simulations. The activity began with an introduction to the PhET simulation, followed by virtual practicum activities using LKPD and evaluation through observation of student activities and group discussion results. The results showed that students were able to use the PhET simulation effectively and demonstrated high enthusiasm throughout the learning process. The virtual simulation helped students understand the relationship between kinetic energy, potential energy, and mechanical energy through interactive visualization. In addition, the activity increased student engagement in group discussions and learning activities. Therefore, the utilization of the PhET Energy Skate Park virtual laboratory can serve as an effective alternative learning medium to support physics learning on the topic of work and energy.

Abstract

Teachers are instrumental in advancing 21st-century education and implementing Indonesia's Merdeka Curriculum, which emphasizes the integration of cognitive development, mental resilience, and a positive learning environment. However, teachers in Alas District, Sumbawa Regency, continue to face challenges in designing innovative learning that promotes Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) and mental health literacy. This community service program aimed to enhance teachers' understanding and practical competencies in implementing innovative learning grounded in mental health literacy. The program was conducted offline through the University of Mataram's Mental Health Literacy Research Product Dissemination Program and involved 60 teachers from early childhood, primary, junior secondary, and senior secondary education levels. The implementation consisted of coordination, training sessions (lectures, discussions, sharing sessions, and a Kahoot-based quiz), and observation-based evaluation. The findings revealed high participant engagement and enthusiasm while fostering a collaborative forum for exchanging best teaching practices to support students' cognitive development, mental well-being, and overall happiness.

Abstract

Digital transformation in education requires teachers to be competent in developing innovative, interactive, and meaningful learning media. This Community Service (PkM) activity aims to improve teachers' knowledge and skills in utilizing digital technology as a learning medium. This activity involved elementary school (SD) and junior high school (SMP) teachers in Sumbawa Regency. The implementation method used a participatory approach, encompassing preparation, material delivery, demonstrations, hands-on practice, discussions, mentoring, and evaluation. Training materials covered the use of Canva for Education, Quizizz, Wordwall, Google Forms, and Artificial Intelligence (AI) to support the development of digital learning media. Results showed that participants enthusiastically participated in the entire training series and actively participated in discussions and practice. Teachers were able to understand digital learning concepts and produce more interactive learning media designs tailored to the subjects they taught. In addition to improving technical competency, this activity also encouraged collaboration among teachers in sharing experiences and best practices in implementing technology in learning. Thus, this community service activity positively contributed to improving digital literacy and teacher professional competence, which is expected to support the creation of a more innovative, interactive, and meaningful learning environment and improve the quality of learning in schools.

Abstract

The community service program implemented at the Sadak Seketeng Livestock Farmers Group (KTT) aims to improve the knowledge and skills of KTT Sadak members in managing livestock waste using AL-K spraying and zeolite sprinkling technology. This program was implemented through a training method that involved evaluation with pre-tests and post-tests to measure the increase in participants' knowledge. In addition, measurements of fecal pH and ammonia gas levels in the pen were also conducted to assess the impact of the technology implementation. The evaluation results showed a significant increase in knowledge among training participants, with the percentage of improvement varying between 7.14% and 90%. The application of AL-K technology proved effective in lowering fecal pH, thereby reducing excessive acidity levels, while the zeolite sprinkling successfully absorbed ammonia gas and reduced humidity in the pen, creating a cleaner and more comfortable environment. Another positive impact was the reduction in odors from livestock feces, which has the potential to improve air quality around the pen and farmer comfort. This program successfully achieved its goal, namely to improve the knowledge and skills of KTT Sadak members in environmentally friendly livestock waste management. To support the sustainability of the program, it is recommended that training be conducted periodically with regular mentoring and evaluation, so that partners can continue to develop their abilities in managing livestock waste more effectively and sustainably.
