Abstract

This study aimed to investigate research trends and future works concerning the implementation of the Process Oriented Guided Inquiry Learning (POGIL) approach in organic chemistry learning. Employing the PRISMA protocol for systematic literature review and bibliometric analysis using VOSviewer software, the researchers identified and analyzed 97 relevant journal articles indexed in the Scopus database. The analysis revealed an upward trend in POGIL-related publications since 2016, with a significant concentration in the United States and in chemistry education journals. Key thematic clusters emerged around cognitive and affective learning domains such as engagement, academic achievement, reasoning, teamwork, and self-efficacy, indicating the predominance of student student-centered and active learning practices in POGIL implementations. However, the study found limited exploration of knowledge retention, misconceptions remediation, anxiety management, and the integration of digital learning tools in POGIL-based organic chemistry learning. The study concluded that POGIL holds strong potential for enhancing curriculum design and learning outcomes in chemistry education. It implied that future research should explore under-investigated areas, including the integration of appropriate technological innovations, to optimize the impact of POGIL on student learning in organic chemistry.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to produce a chemical literacy assessment instrument based on cultural context for high school students on the topic of thermochemistry. The instrument development was carried out by constructing and validating the culturally contextualized chemical literacy test through the following stages: (1) identification of aspects and indicators of culturally based chemical literacy; (2) construction of the assessment instrument; (3) theoretical validation; (4) empirical validation; (5) reliability testing; and (6) difficulty level analysis. Data were analyzed using the Winsteps application and interpreted through the Rasch Model. The developed instrument consists of 12 items encompassing four chemical literacy indicators: Chemical Knowledge Concept, Chemistry in Context, Higher-Order Thinking Skills, and Attitude. The cultural context includes four West Kalimantan cultural themes: Dayak traditional tuak drinking, betel chewing tradition, nasi hadap-hadapan ceremony, and the karbit cannon festival. Validity was confirmed through Outfit MNSQ, Outfit ZSTD, and Point Measure Correlation (Pt. Mean Corr) values. Reliability analysis showed a Cronbach’s alpha of 0.56 (moderate), person reliability of 0.68 (moderate), and item reliability of 0.95 (very high). The instrument covers various difficulty levels: easy (1 item), moderate (9 items), and difficult (2 items), indicating a well-distributed test construction.

Abstract

This study investigates the measurement of the speed of sound in air using a resonance tube assisted by a smartphone-based frequency generator, designed to support STEM-based learning. The experiment follows a quantitative approach, with the length of the air column as the independent variable and the speed of sound as the dependent variable. Control frequencies of 495 Hz, 755 Hz, 1010 Hz, 1270 Hz, and 1530 Hz were generated via a mobile application. Resonance points were identified by observing the peak sound intensity using a digital sound level meter, which indicated the formation of standing waves. The results showed a strong linear relationship between wavelength (λ) and wave period (T), with regression equations λ = 347.62T + 0.0098 (open pipe) and λ = 361.59T − 0.0176 (closed pipe), each with a correlation coefficient of R = 0.99. At room temperature (24.4°C), the measured speed of sound was (347.6 ± 0.2) m/s for the open pipe and (361.6 ± 0.1) m/s for the closed pipe. These results demonstrate that low-cost, smartphone-assisted setups can produce accurate, reliable data. This method enhances student engagement and understanding of acoustic phenomena, providing an accessible and effective model for implementing hands-on STEM-based learning in physics education.
