Abstract

This study aims to analyze the form, function, causal factors, and syntactic structure of code-mixing in conversations posted by the TikTok account @hellorays_. This study used a qualitative method with a descriptive sociolinguistic approach. Data in the form of utterances containing code-mixing were collected through documentation and note-taking techniques, then analyzed descriptively. The results indicate that the dominant code-mixing is intra- sentential code mixing, which involves the interpolation of English into Indonesian within a single sentence. Syntactically, code-mixing occurs at the word, phrase, and clause levels without disrupting the primary structure of Indonesian. The use of code-mixing serves as a means of expression, social identity formation, familiarity, and linguistic aesthetics. Contributing factors include digital globalization, lifestyle, communication efficiency, and emotional context. Thus, code-mixing on social media reflects linguistic creativity and communication strategies for constructing identity in the digital age.

Abstract

Islam did not leave a deep and widespread imprint on the local population of the archipelago, as the syncretism of Islam with pre-Islamic values subsequently gave rise to the "Javanese Religion." Consequently, the process of Islamization in the archipelago was not fully realized. Nurcholis Madjid's interesting statement, comparing Islam in India and Indonesia, states that although Islam in Southeast Asia has spread rapidly and become established, Indonesia, with a predominantly Muslim population, retains a romantic and nostalgic past for the glory of Hindu-Buddhist kingdoms, such as the relics of Borobudur and Prambanan, which have become national pride. A qualitative research approach was chosen because this study was conducted under natural conditions, depicting the actual conditions in society regarding the arrival of Islam in Southeast Asia (the archipelago) based on descriptions of situations or events, written or spoken words, sentences, images, and observable behavior, and directed at the individual's overall natural background.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the process of learning the Monamor Dance through the peer tutoring method in the dance extracurricular program at SMA Negeri 1 Suwawa Timur and to identify the supporting and inhibiting factors. The limited time allocated to dance practice in formal classroom instruction has prompted the use of extracurricular activities as intensive training spaces to preserve local cultural heritage. This study employed a descriptive, qualitative approach with a single-case study design. The participants consisted of 10 female students, of whom two eleventh-grade students acted as tutors due to their higher level of competence, while the remaining eight students served as tutees. Data were collected through direct observation, interviews, questionnaires, and activity documentation. Data validity was ensured through reference materials, source triangulation, and technique triangulation. The findings revealed that the stages of learning through the peer tutoring method included identifying students' initial abilities, selecting tutors, forming groups, practicing movement sequences, adjusting movements to musical accompaniment and props, conducting full rehearsals, and performing in the final presentation. The implementation of this method was found to improve students wiraga (movement technique), wirama (rhythm), and wirasa (expression), while also fostering leadership skills and group collaboration. Supporting factors included students' high motivation, the comfort of practicing with peers, and the availability of facilities such as costumes and props. Meanwhile, inhibiting factors included students' initial reluctance to ask questions, a lack of seriousness due to close peer relationships, tutors" limited experience in providing guidance, and scheduling conflicts regarding the use of practice spaces

Abstract

This study aims to analyze language use in buying and selling interactions at the Medan MMTC Tax Office, focusing on the language used, factors influencing language choice, and the function of language in the transaction process. The study employed a qualitative approach with descriptive methods. Data were obtained through observation, interviews, and documentation, involving sellers and buyers as the primary data sources. The results indicate that Indonesian is the most dominant language used in buying and selling interactions because it serves as an effective means of communication amidst the diverse ethnicities and linguistic backgrounds of the community. Furthermore, code-switching and code-mixing phenomena involving the use of regional languages, such as Batak and Javanese, were also found, primarily to foster social closeness between sellers and buyers. Language choice is influenced by several factors, including ethnic background, level of social closeness, age, and the communication situation. Language in buying and selling transactions serves not only as a means of conveying information about goods and prices, but also as a means of building social relationships, creating comfort, and facilitating negotiation. The findings of this study indicate that Indonesian continues to play a crucial role as a connecting language in the economic activities of multicultural communities, while regional languages serve as complementary tools that strengthen interpersonal relationships in buying and selling interactions.

Abstract

The Banjar House with a High Ridge Roof is an important vernacular architectural heritage that reflects the local knowledge of the Banjar people in responding to the environment, social structure, and cultural values. This study aims to examine the morphology, materiality, and educational value of the Banjar House with a High Ridge Roof in Habirau Village, South Hulu Sungai Regency. The research method uses a qualitative approach with a case study design through architectural observation, documentation, interviews, and literature review. The analysis is conducted descriptively and interpretatively. The research results show that the High Ridge Roof House in Habirau Village has key morphological features such as a high ridge roof, stilt structure, hierarchical spatial arrangement, and symbolic ornaments that function both as adaptations to the tropical climate and as social-cultural markers. The building's materiality is dominated by local hardwood with traditional construction techniques, although some parts have undergone substitution with modern materials. In addition to its physical value, this house contains educational values that include manners and etiquette, mutual cooperation, family life, preservation of local culture, as well as environmental education based on local wisdom. This study confirms that the Banjar High-Roof House in Habirau Village is not only historically and architecturally valuable, but also has the potential as a source of contextual learning in efforts to preserve cultural heritage.

Abstract

This research examines the psychological dynamics of the main character Timun in the novel Timun Jelita by Raditya Dika through the lens of literary psychology. The main problems faced by Timun, a 40-year-old accountant, include identity crisis, existential anxiety in facing technological developments, and past trauma in music. Through Sigmund Freud's psychoanalytic approach, this study aims to reveal how the personality structure consisting of id, ego, and superego contributes to driving the character's behavior. The imbalance in the interaction of these three elements gives rise to anxiety, which then activates the character's unconscious motivation to maintain his psychic integrity. As an adaptive response to emotional pressure, Timun's ego activates various forms of defense mechanisms, including denial, regression, projection, rationalization, reaction formation, and sublimation. This research uses a qualitative descriptive method with data collection techniques in the form of reading and note-taking. The research data are in the form of dialogues, narrations, monologues, and behavioral descriptions of the main character in the novel. The results show that the integration of motivational drives and ego defense mechanisms successfully helps Timun reduce his emotional anxiety and guides him toward a more realistic phase of self-acceptance amid the demands of modern life.

Abstract

This article examines the Larung Sembonyo ritual at Popoh Beach, Tulungagung Regency, East Java, as a socio-ecological system based on local wisdom that goes beyond its ceremonial function. Using a qualitative phenomenological approach and a Traditional Ecological Knowledge (TEK) framework, this study examines the mechanisms of reproductive rituals in maintaining the sacredness of the sea alms tradition and enabling the formation of social relationships and ecological awareness among local fishermen. Data were obtained through in-depth interviews with the head of the Popoh Beach fishermen's yard and field observations. The results show that Larung Sembonyo operates through three main dimensions: spiritual, ecological, and social. The spiritual dimension is reflected in cosmological respect for the sea, the ecological dimension is evident in the three-day fishing ban and the use of natural offerings as a conservation mechanism, while the social dimension is seen in the fencing of communal solidarity. The sustainability of the ritual is supported by moral and spiritual sanctions based on customary prohibitions, a system of independent contributions from fishermen, and the involvement of the younger generation as a cultural regeneration strategy. The main challenges come from pressure from religious purification groups and the weakening of the spirit of mutual cooperation due to modernization. These findings confirm that Larung Sembonyo is an adaptive socio-ecological mechanism that integrates local ecological knowledge, cosmological ethics, and social capital.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the differences between classical (traditional) Arabic grammar and contemporary Arabic grammar in understanding Anwā‘ al-Hurūf min Ḥaythu ‘Amalihā wa Atharihā (types of particles in terms of their grammatical function and effect). To achieve this objective, the research compares the theoretical foundations, analytical approaches, and interpretations of particle functions presented in both grammatical traditions. This study employs a qualitative method with a descriptive-comparative approach through library research. Data were collected from classical Arabic grammar works written by early grammarians and contemporary grammar references influenced by modern linguistic theories. The collected data were analyzed by identifying, classifying, and comparing the concepts of ‘amal (grammatical function) and athar (grammatical effect) associated with various particles in Arabic sentence structures. The findings indicate that classical grammar emphasizes the stability of grammatical rules, the authority of linguistic tradition, and the preservation of established syntactic principles. In contrast, contemporary grammar adopts a more descriptive and functional perspective, focusing on language use, communicative context, and linguistic flexibility. These differences affect the interpretation of particle functions and their grammatical effects in sentence construction. The study concludes that both approaches possess complementary strengths. Therefore, integrating classical grammatical principles with contemporary linguistic insights can provide a more comprehensive understanding of Arabic grammar and contribute to more effective Arabic language learning in modern educational contexts.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the language attitudes of female students toward Indonesian and Javanese, analyze language choice in formal and informal communication, and examine the relationship between language attitudes and language choice at Al-Furqon Islamic Boarding School, Driyorejo, Gresik. The study employed a descriptive mixed-method approach. Quantitative data were collected through questionnaires distributed to 78 female students selected using the Slovin formula from a population of 350 students, while qualitative data were obtained through Focus Group Discussions (FGD). Data were analyzed using descriptive quantitative and qualitative techniques, including frequency distribution, percentage analysis, and interpretation of discussion findings. The results indicate that the students demonstrate positive language attitudes toward Indonesian as the national and official language used in formal boarding school activities. However, Javanese remains the dominant language in daily communication due to social closeness, habitual use, cultural identity, and communication comfort. Language choice is influenced by communication context, interlocutors, and the linguistic norms applied within the boarding school environment. The findings reveal a relationship between language attitudes and language choice, indicating that positive language attitudes influence the tendency to use a particular language according to the communication context. This study contributes to sociolinguistic research by providing insights into language use dynamics in a multilingual Islamic boarding school environment.

Abstract

Song lyrics are contemporary literary works that are interesting to study because they not only serve as entertainment but also become a medium for representing social or personal issues. This study aims to describe the representation of social actions in the lyrics of the album "Untuk Dunia, Cinta, dan Kotornya" by Nadin Amizah. This type of research is qualitative with a literary sociology approach. The research data sources consist of eleven songs from the album, with research data in the form of lyric excerpts analyzed through observation, reading, and noting techniques. Data analysis in this study was carried out through stages of reduction, classification, interpretation, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The conclusions indicate that (1) recovery, preparation, and cultivation actions are forms of representation of instrumental rational actions, and (2) recognition, affection, and acceptance actions are forms of representation of value-oriented rational actions, (3) feelings of disgust and relief are a form of affective action representation, and (4) doctrinal and habitual actions are a form of traditional action representation. Thus, this study shows that songs are not only used as a form of entertainment, but can also serve as a medium to represent various social and personal issues.
