Jurnal Ilmu Bahasa, Sastra, dan Budaya (BASADYA) merupakan media publikasi ilmiah yang memfokuskan kajiannya pada penelitian, pemikiran kritis, dan analisis dalam bidang linguistik, kesusastraan, serta kebudayaan. Jurnal ini bertujuan untuk menjadi wadah akademik yang memfasilitasi pertukaran gagasan, temuan riset, dan pengembangan teori antara para peneliti, dosen, mahasiswa, dan praktisi yang memiliki perhatian pada bahasa, karya sastra, serta dinamika budaya. Bidang kajian jurnal ini meliputi linguistik teoretis dan terapan, termasuk analisis bahasa, pembelajaran bahasa, dan kajian wacana; sastra klasik, modern, dan kontemporer, baik dari perspektif struktural, intertekstual, maupun kontekstual; serta studi budaya yang mencakup identitas, tradisi, media, komunikasi, dan interaksi lintas budaya. Abstract

This study aims to describe the dynamics of social class in the novel Home Sweet Loan by Almira Bastari based on Karl Marx’s theory, which includes social class dynamics, forms of exploitation, and forms of alienation. This research employed a descriptive qualitative approach. The data source was the novel, while the research data consisted of words, phrases, sentences, and dialogues that reflected social class phenomena in urban society. Data techniques were collected use reading and note-taking techniques. Data analysis was conducted through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results of the study revealed into three main aspects namely social class, exploitation, and alienation. From Karl Marx’s perspective, these phenomena indicate that the capitalist system not only produces economic inequality but also creates exploitation and alienation that affect the social life of urban communities. Through its representation of the characters’ lives, the novel Home Sweet Loan presents a social critique of the realities faced by the middle class under economic pressures and social demands within modern capitalist social.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the types of morphological errors found in public media within the educational environment of Surabaya City, specifically covering the aspects of affixation, compounding, reduplication, and abbreviation. A qualitative-descriptive approach was employed. Data sources consisted of physical public media in Surabaya's educational settings such as museum information boards, directional signs, public service board, and educational displays comprising written text. Data were collected through observation, documentation, and note-taking techniques, and their validity was verified using theoretical triangulation. The study identified 96 instances of morphological errors categorized into the four aforementioned aspects. Affixation errors were the most prevalent, involving the separation of the prefix di-, failure of phoneme mutation, omission of affixes, and inconsistent affix usage. These were followed by compounding errors dominated by the incorrect writing of compound words and prolexemes as well as abbreviation errors (involving incorrect period usage and non-standard abbreviations) and reduplication errors (involving omitted hyphens and incorrect reduplicated forms). From a linguistic landscape perspective, the prevalence of these morphological errors indicates that the informational and symbolic functions of language in public spaces are not being optimally fulfilled; this potentially distorts public understanding of standard Indonesian within the educational environment.

Abstract

In the modern era, film has become a communication medium that is not only a means of entertainment, but also a space for constructing meaning that represents values ​​in life, including religious values. Research on religious values ​​in films generally still focuses on introducing religious messages without examining how these values ​​are constructed through a complete sign system. Therefore, this study aims to describe the representation of the dimensions of divine and human values ​​contained in the film "Atas Nama Surga" through Charles Sanders Peirce's semiotic analysis. A qualitative-descriptive method is used in this study with data in the form of visual scenes and dialogues that represent these two dimensions of value. Data collection was carried out by observing and taking notes through the stages of observation (watching the film repeatedly), noting scenes relevant to the research topic, interpreting the data by analyzing the relationship between the triangle of signs (representamen, objects, and interpretants) according to Charles's semiotic theory, and continued with documentation and drawing conclusions. The results of the study show that the representation of these values ​​is constructed through complementary visual and verbal signs. The dimensions of divine values ​​are represented through: 1) worship as a spiritual response to life's trials; 2) prayer as a form of asking for help from Allah SWT. The world is included in the dimension of worship as a form of approaching Allah SWT. Meanwhile, the human dimension is represented through morals in the form of: 1) helping each other as a form of caring for sesame; 2) loyalty as a form of commitment to maintaining the integrity of the household. This research is expected to contribute to the development of semiotics and become a reference for further research that examines religious values ​​in films.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the forms of psychosocial trauma experienced by the main character in the memoir Broken Strings by Aurelie Moeremans and to analyze their impact on the character's psychological condition and social life based on Judith Lewis Herman's trauma theory. This research employed a descriptive qualitative approach using the content analysis method. The data consisted of narratives, dialogues, and monologues representing the main character's traumatic experiences. Data were collected through reading and note-taking techniques and analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model, which includes data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that the main character experiences five forms of psychosocial trauma: intrusion, constriction, hyperarousal, interpersonal disturbance, and self-blame. These traumatic experiences lead to impaired concentration, decreased self-confidence, negative self-image, difficulties in establishing social relationships, and prolonged fear. Nevertheless, the main character gradually undergoes a recovery process by realizing that the violence experienced was not her fault, enabling her to reconstruct a more positive self-identity. This study confirms that Judith Lewis Herman's trauma theory is highly relevant for examining the representation of psychosocial trauma in contemporary literary works, particularly those depicting manipulative and abusive interpersonal relationships.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the linguistic strategies of President Prabowo Subianto in the Prabowo Menjawab program using Teun A. van Dijk’s Critical Discourse Analysis framework. This research specifically examines three aspects: text structure, social cognition representing ideology, and social context underlying discourse production. The selection of Prabowo Menjawab as the object of study is based on its characteristics as a critical interview format in digital media that displays complex and spontaneous linguistic dynamics. This study uses a descriptive research approach with qualitative methodology. The data source is the video recording of the Prabowo Menjawab program broadcast on the Narasi Newsroom YouTube channel on April 7, 2025. Data was collected through observation and note-taking techniques with stages of in-depth listening, verbatim transcription, and identification and coding based on van Dijk’s analytical dimensions. The data analysis technique uses the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldana, which includes data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results show three main findings. First, in the text structure dimension, President Prabowo constructs central themes of economic sovereignty, debt rationalization, democracy management, and anti-corruption efforts. The superstructure follows a consistent justification-argumentation scheme, while the microstructure utilizes semantic strategies (meaning shifts, differentiation), syntactic strategies (inclusive pronouns, conditional sentences), stylistic strategies (confrontational and militaristic diction), and rhetorical strategies (repetition, personification, antithesis). Second, in the social cognition dimension, six interrelated ideological dimensions are identified: economic nationalism, national stability, technocratic legitimacy, justice populism, authoritative leadership, and meritocratic elitism. Third, in the social context dimension, President Prabowo’s discourse represents a strategic effort to build political consensus and affirm leadership authority during the power transition, by utilizing privileged access to digital media.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the widespread phenomenon of hate speech on social media, reflecting the degradation of digital language ethics. This study aims to describe the sentence forms and illocutionary functions of hate speech in netizen comments on controversial TikTok content. The method used is descriptive qualitative with a pragmatic approach. Data were collected using the eavesdropping method through the Non-Participatory Observation Technique (Simak Bebas Libat Cakap/SBLC) and note-taking techniques on netizen comments from 15 video contents across three selected accounts between February and April 2026. Data analysis was carried out interactively, including data reduction, data display with specific codification, and drawing conclusions. The results showed that hate speech was expressed through three sentence forms (declarative, interrogative, imperative), with the declarative form being the most dominant. Meanwhile, of Searle's five illocutionary functions, only three functions were found in the data (assertive, expressive, directive), with the assertive function being the most dominant. These findings indicate a close relationship between utterance structure and netizen intentions to attack other parties. This indicates the importance of strengthening digital literacy and content moderation systems that are responsive to covert intentions behind utterances.

Abstract

This study is driven by the low speech writing skills observed among class VIII-D students at SMP Negeri 12 Surabaya, which stems from a lack of interactive learning models in the classroom. The objective of this research is to examine the effect of the Think Talk Write (TTW) model on students' speech writing skills, while concurrently evaluating teaching implementation, learning outcomes, and student responses. This pre-experimental study adopted a One Group Pretest-Posttest Design, involving a sample of 36 students during the 2025/2026 academic year. The research process began by assessing students' initial abilities through a pre-test, followed by the implementation of the Think Talk Write model as the primary intervention—during which classroom activities were directly monitored using observation sheets. The sequence then moved to a post-test to evaluate their final writing proficiency, and concluded with gathering feedback via student response questionnaires. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive and parametric inferential statistics (Paired Samples t-Test and N-Gain). The results revealed three major findings. First, the teaching process using the TTW model ran optimally with a classical implementation score of 95%, placing it in the excellent category. Second, students' speech writing skills significantly improved, as demonstrated by a t-test significance value of 0.000 < 0.05 and a substantial leap in the mean score from 42.94 to 84.17, achieving a 100% mastery rate. This improvement is further supported by a classical N-Gain score of 0.72 (high category) and an effectiveness rate of 72.21% (effective category). Third, students showed high enthusiasm during the lessons, generating a cumulative response score of 86.81%, which falls into the very good category. These combined findings demonstrate that the Think Talk Write learning model exerts a significant and effective impact on enhancing the speech writing skills of class VIII-D students at SMP Negeri 12 Surabaya.

Abstract

This study examines the psychological dynamics of Alie, the protagonist of the novel Rumah untuk Alie by Len Liu, through the lens of Sigmund Freud's psychoanalytic theory. The novel portrays a child who experiences physical and psychological violence within a dysfunctional family after being blamed for her mother's death. This research aims to describe the forms of fear and violence experienced by Alie, to analyze the dynamics of her personality structure (id, ego, and superego), to identify the defense mechanisms she employs, and to explain the relevance of these psychological findings to real-life issues of child abuse and trauma. A qualitative descriptive method was applied through repeated reading and note-taking of narrative excerpts, dialogues, and paragraphs that reflect Alie's psychological condition; the data were coded and analyzed based on Freudian indicators and validated through source and theory triangulation. The results show that Alie experiences physical, psychological, and social fear as well as physical and psychological violence, which generate realistic, neurotic, and moral anxiety. The tension among id, ego, and superego produces an unresolved inner conflict, prompting Alie to rely on defense mechanisms such as repression, regression, rationalization, projection, and withdrawal. These findings confirm that childhood violence leaves lasting psychological wounds that shape personality, behavior, and social relationships, underlining the literary and educational value of the novel in raising awareness of child protection and trauma recovery.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the forms of inner conflict, the maturation process, and the manifestations of the id, ego, and superego personality structures of the character Iyan in Armaraher's novel "Iyan Bukan Anak Tengah." A literary psychology approach was used, utilizing Sigmund Freud's psychoanalytic theory. The method employed was descriptive qualitative research. The research data consisted of words, phrases, sentences, and dialogues that demonstrate the inner conflict, maturation process, and personality structure of the main character. Data collection techniques included intensive reading, documentation, recording, and data classification. Data analysis was conducted using descriptive-analytical techniques. The results indicate that Iyan's inner conflict consists of four forms: conflict resulting from lack of affection, social and environmental pressure, defense mechanisms, and emotional trauma. These conflicts serve as drivers for the character's maturation process through emotional control, obedience, forgiveness, social adaptation, and acceptance of reality. The manifestations of the personality structure show that the id dominates at the beginning of the story through the need for affection and attention. The ego functions to adapt to reality, while the superego develops through moral awareness, ultimately shaping the character's psychological maturity. This research demonstrates that inner conflict plays a crucial role in the formation of a character's identity and personality development.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the development of social media, particularly TikTok, which is not only used as a means of entertainment, but also as a medium for conveying social criticism through the use of satire. Satirical content on social media is growing rapidly because it is able to highlight social phenomena in a light, humorous, and close to people's lives, especially the younger generation. Through this phenomenon, this study aims to describe the types of satire, the meaning of satire, and the function of satire in Kelvin Steviano's TikTok content. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach. The research data source is speech containing satire in the TikTok video content of the account @kelvinsteviano1. Data was collected using the listening method with the Listening Free Involvement Conversation (SBLC) technique and note-taking technique. Furthermore, the data were analyzed using the referential matching method with the Determining Elements (PUP) technique and the distribution method with the Direct Elements Sharing (BUL) technique. The results found in this study are that there are  three types of satire in 44 data consisting of 7 Horatian satire, 9 Juvenalian satire, and 28 Menippean satire. In addition, three intentions of satire were found in TikTok @kelvinsteviano1, namely satirizing and laughing at 9 data, satirizing and criticizing 27 data, and satirizing and raising awareness 5 data. Then also found three functions of satire which include 4 data entertainment function, 34 data social criticism function, and 6 data satire function as a lesson.
