MUMTAZA (Journal of Arabic Teaching, Arabic Linguistic and Literature) is an open-access journal in the Arabic Education Department. This journal is available for researchers who want to improve knowledge in those particular areas and intend to spread the knowledge as a result of studies. MUMTAZA is a scientific research journal of Arabic language teaching, linguistics, and literature. It is open to anyone who desires to develop knowledge based on qualified research in any field. Submitted papers are evaluated by anonymous reviewers by double-blind peer review for contribution, originality, relevance, and presentation. This journal is published two times a year (June and December). This study aims to explore the effectiveness of using the Direct Method in teaching Arabic grammar and communication at the elementary school level. The Direct Method is a language teaching approach that emphasizes the use of the target language directly without using the mother tongue as an intermediary. In this context, students are encouraged to actively participate in daily conversations, understand, and apply grammar through direct practice. This study employs a qualitative approach with observation, interviews, and document analysis as data collection methods. Participants in the study included students from grades 4 to 6 at an Islamic Elementary School in Indonesia. The results showed that the use of the Direct Method significantly improved students' oral communication skills in Arabic. Students also demonstrated an increased understanding of grammar through direct application in conversations and other classroom activities. Furthermore, the study found that the Direct Method could enhance students' motivation and confidence in using Arabic. Teachers also reported that this method made it easier for them to create an interactive and enjoyable learning environment. However, challenges such as students' limited vocabulary and difficulties in understanding complex grammatical concepts still need to be addressed.

The study aims to evaluate the impact of the use of e-books on learning Arabic in primary schools. The research method used was quantitative with experimental design involving 60 students of 4th and 5th grade at two primary schools in Jakarta. Students were divided into two groups: the experimental group using e-books and the control group using printed books. The results of the study showed that students using ebooks had a significant improvement in their Arabic-language skills test scores compared to students using a printed book. The average increase in scores in experimental groups was 20%, while in the control groups only 10%. Furthermore, the questionnaires given to students indicated that 85% of them felt more motivated and interested in learning Arabic with ebooks. The findings indicate that e-books can be an effective tool in improving Arabic learning in primary schools. However, e-book implementation also requires adequate technology infrastructure support as well as training for teachers to be able to integrate this technology optimally.

This study aims to explore the impact of using the Kahoot application to enhance Arabic language learning motivation among ninth-grade students of class IX N at MTsN 3 Jombang. A qualitative approach was employed, involving 30 students as participants. Data were collected through interviews, classroom observations, and questionnaires to gain an in-depth understanding of how Kahoot influences students' motivation. The results indicated that Kahoot significantly increased student engagement and made the learning process more interactive and enjoyable. Most students reported higher enthusiasm and active participation during lessons. These findings align with Self-Determination Theory, which emphasizes the importance of autonomy, competence, and social relatedness in fostering intrinsic motivation. Based on these results, it is recommended that educators incorporate Kahoot regularly into their teaching practices to improve student motivation and engagement in Arabic language learning

This research aims to explore the role of dictionaries in learning Arabic, particularly in facilitating vocabulary comprehension for learners and enthusiasts of the Arabic language. The study employs a qualitative method with a library research approach. Data collection techniques are carried out through literature reviews and documentation studies. The collected data is analyzed using a descriptive analysis method, followed by drawing conclusions. The results of this study indicate that dictionaries have various terminologies in Arabic, such as mu’jam, fihris, and mau’suah. These terms refer to books that contain a large number of vocabulary words, along with explanations, interpretations, or elucidations of the meanings of each word. The content of dictionaries is organized according to specific systems, either based on the order of the Arabic alphabet (phonetics) or thematic categories (meanings). In terms of function, dictionaries play a significant role in Arabic language learning. They help clarify word meanings, facilitate the process of language translation, enrich learners’ vocabulary, and deepen understanding of Arabic texts. Thus, the use of dictionaries can enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of learning the Arabic language. This study emphasizes that dictionaries are essential tools that not only serve as sources of information but also as means for developing language skills among Arabic language learners.

The quality of the test greatly affects the accuracy of the test itself. Therefore, analysis of test quality is a step that must be taken to determine the degree of quality of a test, both the test as a whole and the items that are part of the test. In the assessment of learning outcomes, the test is expected to describe a sample of behavior and produce an objective and accurate value. The test used by the teacher must have good quality in terms of various aspects. Tests should be prepared in accordance with the principles and procedures for preparing tests, after use it is necessary to know whether the test is of good or poor quality. The type of this research is experimental research with a quantitative approach. To obtain data, of course, a tool or instrument is needed. The instrument used by researchers is a written test in the form of an objective test (multiple choice test) containing 10 questions in which there are questions to be answered by participants. The population in this study were all 3rd grade students of SDIT Mutiara Global Kubang Raya with a total of 52 people. From the results of the analysis using the ITEMAN (SPSS) Version 2.4 program, the items that were grouped well based on the level of difficulty were 2 items. From the results of the analysis using the SPSS version 2.4 program, the items categorized as very good in terms of differentiating power are 7 items, while those categorized as good enough do not need improvement are 2 items, those categorized as less good and need improvement are 0 items, and those categorized as bad are 0 items. Based on the results of the analysis using the ITEMAN program, there is one item that shows the ability of the test takers is low, namely in item 1. Based on the results of calculations using the help of the item output and Test Analysis program SPSS Version 2.4, the reliability test obtained a result of 0.950.

Penelitian deskriptif ini bertujuan mengungkapkan keterkaitan instrumen evaluasi pada soal tarkib dan mufrodat yang terdapat Pada Buku Ajar Bahasa Arab Penerbit Dari Bumi Aksara Kelas XI Madrasah Aliyah dengan buku Al-Ikhtibaarat Al Lughawiyyah Karya Muh Ali Al-Khouli. Objek penelitian ini adalah instrumen evaluasi berbentuk tes esai maupun objektif yang terdapat Pada Buku Ajar Bahasa Arab Penerbit Dari Bumi Aksara Kelas XI Madrasah Aliyah Teknik. analisis yang digunakan adalah prosedur observasi yaitu (1) mengidentifikasi objek penelitian, (2) menjelaskan berbagai jenis data yang telah dikumpulkan, dan (3) membahas data hasil penelitian. Pengidentifikasian objek penelitian dilakukan dengan cara mengidentifikasi macam-macam soal yang ada dalam buku teks dengan rujukan atau pedoman penyusunan instrument evaluasi tarkib dan mufrodat menggunakan buku Al Ikhtibaraat Al Lughawiyah karya Muhammad Ali Khouli. Hasil pengumpulan data dalam penelitian ini dianalisis menggunakan analisis deskriptif kualitatif. Pada evaluasi tarkib ada empat jenis perintah soal yang senada dengan jenis soal dalam buku Al-Ikhtibaarat Al-Lughawiyyah Karya Muh Ali Al- Khouli sebanyak 5 soal. Sedangkan pada evaluasi mufradat terdapat 2 jenis perintah soal dengan banyak soal sebanyak 2 soal, yang senada dengan dengan jenis soal dalam buku Al-Ikhtibaarat Al-Lughawiyyah Karya Muh Ali Al- Khouli sebanyak 2 soal.

This study aims to analyze the evaluation instruments for Arabic listening skills in the Alef application. The research method used is descriptive qualitative with a content analysis approach. Data was collected through in-depth observations of the evaluation features in the Alef application, particularly in the aspect of listening skills (maharah istima'). The research findings show that the evaluation instruments in the Alef application include several important components, namely: (1) the compatibility of materials with user proficiency levels, (2) variations in evaluation question formats including multiple choice, matching, and sentence completion, (3) the quality of audio used in listening tests, and (4) an automatic scoring system that provides immediate feedback to users. However, several limitations were found, such as the lack of variation in question difficulty levels and the absence of assessment for advanced listening skills. This research provides recommendations for developing more comprehensive evaluation instruments in technology-based language learning applications.

This research discusses writing skills (maharah al-kitabah) in the context of Arabic language learning in grade 7 Madrasah Tsanawiyah. Writing is an important language skill and functions to express thoughts through writing. The aim of this research is to analyze the forms of writing skills tests applied in student worksheets, as well as to categorize the questions according to Muhammad Ali al-Khuli's perspective. This research uses a library research method with primary data sources in the form of questions on student worksheets and secondary data sources in the form of books and articles related to learning speaking and writing skills. The analysis technique used is descriptive analysis. The results of the research show that several questions in the students' worksheets, such as questions 4 and 6, are in accordance with the category of sentence writing skill tests according to al-Khuli, such as questions that test the ability to write using certain rules and questions that measure the ability to copy text. However, there are some questions that place more emphasis on other skills, such as grammar, translation and reading, so they are less appropriate in distributing writing skills. This research provides recommendations so that the questions used are more suitable for measuring students' writing abilities effectively.

This study aims to analyze the phonological variation of allophones with the specification of "Vowel Omission" in Moroccan Arabic dialect (Darija) as reflected in Moroccan songs. The songs chosen for this study are the lyrics of "لوجه التاني" by Saad Lamjarred and Zouhair Bahaoui, "بلا بلا" by Nouaman Belaiachi, and "Taragalte" by Oum. Using a qualitative method and content analysis, this research explores how allophones in Darija function differently compared to Modern Standard Arabic (Fusha), with vowel omission being one of the phenomena observed. The study also examines how these phonological variations reflect the social and cultural identity of the speakers. The analysis results show vowel omission in 8 instances in the song "لوجه التاني," 6 instances in the song "Bla-Bla," and 4 instances in the song "Taragalte." Vowel omission and significant vowel changes reflect the flexibility and complexity of Moroccan Arabic, influenced by sociolinguistic factors. This study is expected to contribute to the fields of linguistics and sociolinguistics and enrich the understanding of the interaction between language and culture in Morocco.

This study aims to develop and test the effectiveness of Arabic listening skills instructional media based on the Plotagon Story multimedia application for Grade IX students at Nahdhatul Athfal. The research was motivated by field findings indicating a lack of relevant instructional media aligned with textbook materials and low student comprehension in listening skills. The study employed the Research and Development (R&D) method using the Borg & Gall model, which includes needs analysis, product design, expert validation, product revision, limited trial, and field testing. Research instruments included observation, interviews, questionnaires, and tests. The results showed that the Plotagon Story application significantly improved students’ listening comprehension, as reflected in the increase in post-test scores and the high level of student satisfaction with the developed media. These findings support Vygotsky’s social constructivism approach, where learning becomes more effective through social interaction and the use of contextual media. Therefore, this media is recommended as an innovative alternative for communicative and participatory Arabic language learning.
