Abstract

The New Order government that saw oil palm as an important commodity for Indonesia's economic development, initiating oil palm plantation development projects through the “Agro-industry” program in the 1980s. Intending to create jobs, the company is actually faced with the problem of procuring labor in plantations. This study was made as an effort to describe how companies overcome the difficulty of finding skilled workers in oil palm plantations in South Sumatra, with a case study of oil palm plantations of PT Aek Tarum which was established in 1989 in Mesuji District, Ogan Regency, Komering Ilir Regency. By using the historical method, this research was conducted through the stages of heuristics, source criticism, interpretation, and historiography. This research was conducted using an economic and socio-cultural approach. The results show that to overcome the problem of labor shortages in oil palm plantations, companies rely heavily on workers imported from outside the region. This dependence eventually gave birth to communities in oil palm plantations in South Sumatra, who were identified as Javanese.

Abstract

The Japanese presence in Indonesia (1942–1945) had a significant impact on various sectors, including the economy and agriculture. Japan implemented various policies and regulations to control the agricultural sector to meet their war needs in Java. This research aims to analyze the agricultural transformation introduced by Japan, especially in the aspects of regulation and control which include the introduction of new commodities, the application of cultivation techniques, and the formation of farmer organizations in the Java region. This research uses historical methods that include heuristics, criticism of sources (internal and external), interpretation, and historiography. The results show that although Japan's agricultural policy brings modernization through new cultivation techniques, on the other hand it also causes negative impacts, such as food scarcity and labor exploitation. Thus, the transformation of agriculture during the Japanese occupation had a complex influence on the agricultural sector in Indonesia.

Abstract

Until today, historical studies continue to evolve. The paradigm shift from traditional historical writing has ushered in a new phase for history as a scientific discipline. This study explores the pluralism of historical methodologies by reexamining the New History and Annales approaches in generating new themes within historical scholarship. The central issue addressed in this research concerns the limitations faced by historical studies in developing new and relevant topics. The study aims to provide a conceptual foundation and fresh perspectives on emerging themes in historiography. The findings reveal that methodological pluralism in history enables researchers to more easily identify and explore diverse research themes. History students and scholars are no longer confined to the traditional paradigm that centers solely on grand events and prominent figures. Contemporary historical writing offers a more inclusive, multidisciplinary, and socially relevant perspective, aligning historical inquiry with current societal issues. History is no longer viewed as an ivory tower of knowledge, but as a dynamic field capable of responding to real-world problems.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the fact that history is often considered boring and uninteresting for students because they study the past, whereas learning history is an effort to instil patriotism values and a sense of nationalism. However, by applying the sociodrama method, it allows students to connect historical events with current conditions. This research uses case study qualitative method. The case study qualitative research method is an approach used to investigate and understand certain phenomena or events in depth in the context of real life. Case study research starts from sampling with purposive sampling. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The analysis was conducted in three stages, namely data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. Based on the results of the research at SHS (Senior High School) No. 16 in Bandung City, the use of sociodrama method enables students to better understand the historical events that have shaped the identity of the Indonesian nation. By portraying important figures or reconstructing crucial moments in Indonesian history, sociodrama method encourages learners' active participation in the learning process. As a result, the learning experience becomes deeper and more meaningful, making it easier for learners to connect past events with the context of their current lives. Therefore, it can be concluded that sociodrama method is effective in developing learners' analytical skills and critical thinking towards historical events. As a result, learners' understanding of the values of nationalism and patriotism improved.

Abstract

This research examines the implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum in Phase F history subjects at SMAN 1 Tumpang, motivated by the co-19 pandemic which exacerbated the education crisis in Indonesia. The purpose of this study is to understand the process, supporting factors, and obstacles faced by teachers and their impact on students. The learning model applied in this school is project-based learning and discovery learning which is centered on students. This research applies a qualitative method, in which researchers try to interpret the data obtained in the field based on the results of observations in class XI and interviews with the Head of Curriculum, history teacher, P5 team coordinator, and students. The results indicated that the implementation of Merdeka Curriculum in Phase F history subjects at SMAN 1 Tumpang was carried out effectively. This is due to supporting factors, namely the availability of adequate learning facilities. The obstacles experienced are the limited effective hours of learning because they are cut with activities outside of learning. The positive impact felt by educators is the ease in terms of delivering material including the depth of material and in terms of assessment, and the enthusiasm for learning of students increases through the use of the project-based learning model.
