Abstract

This research is motivated by the fact that Javanese political concepts have influenced Indonesian politics from the royal era to contemporary times. The concept of Javanese politics has been an integral part of the Indonesian political landscape for a long time. Rooted in the traditions of the ancient Javanese kingdoms, this concept has a deep influence on the perspective and practice of politics in the archipelago, including Soekarno. This research was conducted using a qualitative literature method with document analysis. The qualitative literature method with document analysis is a research approach that focuses on collecting and interpreting data from various written sources. This method involves systematic review of documents such as books, journal articles, reports, archives, and other written sources relevant to the research topic. The results and discussion of the research explain that the concept of Javanese politics has deep roots in traditional Javanese culture and philosophy. Soekarno, as a son of Java, was greatly influenced by these political concepts. He combined traditional Javanese elements with modern ideas of nationalism and socialism. Soekarno also adopted the Javanese concept of the leader as the "axis" or centre of political and social life in both domestic policy and international relations.

The research method used is Library Reasearch. The results showed that the discovery learning model is needed in social studies learning both at the elementary school level in the digital era. Through this model, students are able to think critically and have creativity in solving problems and connecting social phenomena that occurred in the past. In addition, being able to improve critical ways of thinking and provide opportunities for students to develop creativity in Social Studies learning in the present condition by thinking emancipatorically, this way of thinking departs from the critical theory developed by Jurgen Habermas of the Frankfurt School. Abstract

Colonialism refers to the practice of a country's domination of territory and population outside its territorial boundaries. This phenomenon has resulted in significant changes in many countries around the world, including the Philippine Islands. Since the arrival of colonial powers, such as the United States and Japan, the Philippine Islands have undergone changes in social, political, and economic aspects. This research aims to explore the impact of the colonial power on social, political, and economic development in the Philippine Islands. The method used in this study is a historical method with a qualitative approach. In addition, a diachronic approach is applied to understand the history of colonialism in the Philippine Islands chronologically. The results of this study show that there are differences in the practice of colonialism between the United States and Japan in the Philippine Islands. The United States carried out colonialism in the Philippine Islands by guiding the Philippines towards a better democratic system through education. Meanwhile, the Japanese occupation of the Philippines carried out colonialism by forcing Filipinos to work forcibly in the agricultural sector.

Abstract

Every society in Indonesia has its own education pattern. The people of West Sumatra are no exception. Education in West Sumatra has been going on for a long time, since pre-Islamic times in the 14th century, until the influence of the Dutch in education in the 19th century. This research uses historical research methodology using primary sources from colonial archives in the form of besluit (decision letters), and secondary sources in the form of books and scientific journals. This research aims to see how the pattern of education in West Sumatra from the 14th Century to the 19th Century produced national movement figures. The results of this research found that the education pattern in West Sumatra society is divided into two, namely traditional education which has existed since pre-Islamic times and post-modern Islamization. Both modern education has existed since the arrival of colonial influence, which was marked by the establishment of volkschools in West Sumatra in the mid-19th century. All educational processes have their respective roles. Traditional education aims to prepare members of West Sumatra society to live based on existing customs. Meanwhile, post-Islamization education with the influence of Western nations aims to produce government employees.

Abstract

This paper reports an empirical investigation of the epistemological aspect of historical consciousness, particularly on the relationship between three manifestations of historical consciousness namely narrative, the uses of history, and historical culture on the construction of historical consciousness. The main question addressed in this paper is about to what extent historical cultures, as the representation of cultural achievement, shape an individual's historical consciousness, which represents the anthropological universal aspect. This research departs from the theoretical debate on historical consciousness as an anthropological universal versus historical consciousness as a cultural achievement of Western civilization. Based on Jorn Rusen’s (2004) theoretical assumptions regarding the interrelation of historical narrative, the use of history, and historical culture, this study empirically demonstrates the connection between these three variables through comparisons and differences found in the research subjects. To answer this question, a qualitative research project based on a descriptive approach was used as a research method to observe students' narratives, uses of history, and historical culture in the History Study Program (HSP) and the History Education Study Program (HESP) at Sebelas Maret University in which those study programs have a different strand of the curriculum. The findings reveal differences in historical narratives and the use of history between students from the two study programs. This research shows the differences in narratives and uses of history between students from those two study programs. Students from the HSP tend to use critical standpoints to understand history. Meanwhile, students from the HESP, which stands on education and history, tend to understand history in a normative way. The differences prove that historical culture, which is represented by the Curriculum of the study programs, has constructed students' historical consciousness to be critical and normative. This also shows the encounter between cultural achievement and the anthropological aspect of humans in the construction of historical consciousness.

This study aims to help students understand the values of nationalism in historical novels and increase their literacy interest in history learning. The research employed a qualitative method with a content analysis approach. Data were collected through interviews, questionnaires, document studies, classroom observations, and an analysis of the novel Student Hidjo. The findings reveal that Student Hidjo by Mas Marco Kartodikromo is relevant for use in history learning at high schools, as it contains nationalist values such as love for the homeland, patriotism, the spirit of unity, and the aspiration for independence. Through this novel, students can better comprehend the values of nationalism while fostering their sense of national pride. The study also found that 88% of students preferred learning history through novels rather than textbooks. Moreover, interviews with teachers indicated that this novel successfully enhanced students' reading interest and understanding of history. With its critical narrative on Dutch colonialism and its inspiring themes, this novel is an effective medium for instilling nationalist values and enriching history learning in schools.

Abstract

This study aims to explain the role of Syahbandar Kyatsu and Cakradana in advancing trade in the Sultanate of Banten during the 17th century. Using historical research methods, including heuristics, source criticism, interpretation, and historiography, this study reveals that Syahbandar played a key role in the development of maritime trade. They introduced innovations in navigation systems, managed ports, and established regulations related to taxation and customs duties. In addition to being responsible for port administration and logistics, Syahbandar also acted as intermediaries between local and foreign traders, expanded global trade networks, assisted in contract negotiations, and facilitated the exchange of goods. With an in-depth understanding of both local and international markets, they directed trade flows towards the Sultanate of Banten and ensured the smooth distribution of goods. Indirectly, their role also contributed to the growth of the Muslim community in Banten. The implications of this study indicate that the role of Syahbandar not only impacted economic progress but also influenced the security system and stability of Banten's maritime territory in the 17th century.
