Abstract

Low reading comprehension among elementary students remains a significant educational challenge in Indonesia, often stemming from passive instructional methods and low student engagement levels. At SDN Sukatani 5, many students faced difficulties in reading fluently and understanding texts, mainly due to teacher-centered and individual-based classroom practices. This situation underscores the urgent need for more engaging, student-centered learning strategies to enhance literacy skills. This study investigates the effectiveness of the Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) model, which is supported by the StoryWeaver digital platform, in enhancing reading comprehension. Adopting a quantitative experimental design, the research involved 60 fourth-grade students, divided into two cohorts. The experimental cohort received the CIRC-StoryWeaver intervention, while the control cohort was taught utilizing traditional methods. Pre- and post-tests were administered, and data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-tests, and N-Gain scores. The outcomes revealed a significant improvement in the experimental cohort, by a post-test average score of 84.07 and an N-Gain of 60.97% (moderate effect), compared to the control cohort’s score of 79.70 and N-Gain of 49.07% (lower effect). These findings reinforce the relevance of constructivist approaches in literacy instruction and demonstrate the potential of digital tools, such as StoryWeaver, to support active, meaningful, and student-centered learning experiences.

Abstract

This study was motivated by the low level of understanding of Phase B Grade III elementary school students in Pancasila education, particularly in the material on the meaning of the values of Pancasila. Preliminary studies suggest that some students struggle to comprehend the meaning and values of Pancasila. This study aims to measure the effectiveness of using the problem-based learning model in improving students' understanding of the values embodied in the Pancasila principles in elementary school. The research approach employed is a quantitative method, utilizing a pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest design. The sample in this study consists of 23 students in phase B at one elementary school in Sukajadi District, Bandung City. The instrument used is a written test with essay-type questions. The data analysis used includes normality tests, homogeneity tests, hypothesis tests, and N-Gain tests. The analysis results showed that the average post-test scores increased from the average pre-test scores, from 55.35 to 81.43. Based on the hypothesis test, the significance value was 0.001 < 0.05, so H0 was rejected and H1 was accepted, meaning that there was a significant improvement in conceptual understanding ability. Based on the N-Gain test, an N-Gain score of 0.5757 was obtained, meaning the N-Gain score falls under the “moderate” criterion. Meanwhile, the N-Gain percentage shows a value of 57.5673, which is greater than 55, indicating that the PBL learning model is sufficiently effective in enhancing students' conceptual understanding in Phase B of elementary school.

Abstract

The Pancasila Student Profile Strengthening Project (P5) is a learning approach that emphasizes the development of student character and competencies aligned with Pancasila values, providing contextual, collaborative, and problem-solving-oriented learning experiences that enable students to develop strong character. The purpose of this study is to investigate the impact of implementing the Pancasila student profile strengthening project on school culture, mathematical numeracy literacy, and character building in elementary school. The research method employed is  a case study approach. The research techniques used are interviews, observation, and documentation. The data analysis employed in this study involves data reduction, data display, and data verification. At the same time, the validity of the data in this study is ensured through triangulation, researcher persistence, and the extension of the study period. The research results obtained indicate that the implementation of P5 was carried out independently by teachers of elementary school, without any training project to strengthen the profile of Pancasila students. Low problem-solving skills in numeracy literacy among students are addressed through collaborative methods, which include learning mathematical numeracy literacy in the context of memorization, congregational prayer activities in turns, reading the Yasin letter every Friday, cooperation in cleaning, planting flowers, and farming. The supporting factors include teachers and students, while the inhibiting factors are a lack of government support, a lack of in-depth knowledge of the independent learning curriculum or P5, limited time allocation, low student engagement, insufficient parental attention, and an unfavorable environment
