Abstract

Stunting is a multidimensional developmental condition that has long-term consequences for children’s cognitive functioning, language development, and school readiness within educational contexts. This article aims to review the impact of stunting on child development in Indonesia using Bronfenbrenner’s ecological systems theory as a socioecological framework. A systematic literature review with a narrative synthesis approach was employed. Literature searches were conducted using Google Scholar, PubMed, Scopus, SINTA, and Garuda, covering studies published between 2013 and 2026 that addressed stunting and its implications for child development and education. The findings were analyzed by categorizing evidence across ecological levels, including the microsystem, mesosystem, exosystem, and macrosystem. The synthesis reveals that stunting is associated with reduced cognitive performance by approximately 0.56-0.82 standard deviations, delayed school entry, and persistent regional disparities in educational outcomes. These effects are exacerbated by weak coordination among families, schools, health services, and policy frameworks. This review proposes a socioecological model emphasizing integrated psychoeducational interventions across sectors. The study concludes that addressing stunting requires moving beyond a nutrition-centered approach toward a holistic, education-sensitive strategy that considers children’s developmental environments in order to mitigate long-term educational disadvantages and human resource inequality in Indonesia.

Abstract

The management of Fiqh instruction for visually impaired students requires specific pedagogical adjustments to ensure that Islamic legal concepts are understood meaningfully. However, studies that specifically explore how planning, implementation, and evaluation are managed in special education contexts remain limited. This study looks at how visually impaired students at SLB A Aisyiyah Ponorogo are taught fiqh. The planning, execution, and assessment procedures in the educational context of the school were investigated using a qualitative case study methodology. Classroom observations, principal and Islamic Education teacher interviews, and documentation review were used to collect data. The interactive analytical paradigm of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing was used to evaluate the gathered data, and source and technique triangulation was used to increase the data's trustworthiness.. The study found that lesson planning refers to the Independent Curriculum for Special Education, although teachers make various adjustments to learning objectives, materials, instructional methods, and media based on students’ visual conditions. In classroom practice, teachers rely on verbal instruction, guided worship practice, classroom discussion, and accessible learning resources such as tactile media, audio materials, and Braille texts. Student learning outcomes are assessed through oral examinations and direct demonstrations of worship practices. These adaptive management practices contribute to improving students’ engagement, conceptual understanding, and independence in performing religious practices.

Abstract

Qur’an memorization programs in Islamic elementary schools face serious challenges, including limited time within the regular curriculum, insufficient oversight of memorization quality, and excessive academic workload. To respond to these ongoing challenges, MI Terpadu Al-Madinah Balong has adopted a full-day school (FDS) model that merges general academic subjects with Islamic education under an extended daily learning structure. The present study aims to: (1) explore how the full-day school model is put into practice in reinforcing the Quran memorization program; (2) outline the processes through which its implementation takes place; and (3) determine the impact of this model on the memorization achievements of students. This research employed a descriptive qualitative methodology with a case study framework. Primary data were collected through direct observation, in-depth interviews, and documentary analysis, subsequently processed using the interactive analytical model developed by Miles, Huberman, and Saldana. The expected outcomes of this study include identifying successful implementation strategies, approaches to incorporating tahfīẓ activities into the FDS structure, and the role of this integration in advancing students' memorization proficiency and nurturing their religious character. This study is also expected to offer practical insights to advance Islamic education management, particularly in developing integrated and sustainable tahfīẓ programs at the madrasah ibtidaiyah level.

Abstract

Strengthening Qur'anic character is a key focus in Islamic education to address today's moral challenges. This study aims to examine the implementation of Qur'anic character strengthening through the integration of mabit and tadabbur alam activities at Rumah Tahfidz Ar-Rahman Sampang, as well as to identify the supporting and inhibiting factors. Unlike previous studies, this research emphasizes the integration of these two programs as an experiential character-building model. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The findings indicate that the program successfully instills Qur'anic values, including taqwa, istiqamah, tawakal, discipline, perseverance, tawadhu', honesty, mutual respect, filial piety, environmental care, and gratitude. Its implementation is supported by the role of asatidz, students' awareness, and a conducive environment, while obstacles include differences in students' character, limited parental support, and constraints in time and facilities. This study contributes a new experience-based model for strengthening Qur'anic character in Rumah Tahfidz.

Abstract

The transition to boarding school life often poses adjustment challenges for new students. Self-compassion is considered a protective factor that may facilitate adaptation during this transition. This study examined the effectiveness of self-compassion psychoeducation in enhancing self-compassion and adjustment among new students in an Islamic boarding school from the perspective of Islamic educational psychology. A quasi-experimental pretest-post-test control group design was employed involving 82 first-year female students consisting of an intervention group (n = 41) and a control group (n = 41). Data were collected using the Self-Compassion Scale (SCS) and the Student Adjustment Scale (SAS). Gain scores (post-test-pretest) were analysed using independent-samples t-tests. The results showed that the intervention group demonstrated significantly greater improvements in self-compassion (t (80) = 7.651, p < .001, d = 1.69) and adjustment (t (80) = 5.069, p < .001, d = 1.12) than the control group. These findings indicate that self-compassion psychoeducation is effective in strengthening self-compassion and improving adjustment among new students in Islamic boarding schools.

Abstract

Students' mental health is a critical factor in fostering learning well-being within Islamic boarding schools (pesantren). However, existing studies predominantly conceptualize mental health as an individual psychological issue and have paid limited attention to tarbiyah-based mentoring as an integral component of the pesantren educational system. This study aims to explore a tarbiyah-based mental health support model for students and examine its contribution to enhancing learning well-being at Pondok Modern Assalam Sukabumi. This research employed a qualitative case study design. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, participant observation, and document analysis involving the head of the boarding school, student affairs officers, homeroom teachers, mudabbir (dormitory mentors), dormitory administrators, and students. Data were analyzed using the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña through the processes of open coding, axial coding, and selective coding. The findings reveal that the mental health support model is implemented through a multi-layered mentoring system involving mudabbir, homeroom teachers, the student affairs division, and school leaders. This model integrates tarbiyah values, social support, character development, and Islamic spirituality into promotive, preventive, curative, and community-based intervention strategies. The implementation of this model contributes to five indicators of learning well-being: inner peace, increased learning motivation, improved academic achievement, healthy social relationships, and stronger discipline and adherence to pesantren values. This study proposes a Tarbiyah-Based Student Mental Health Support Model as a conceptual framework that enriches mental health scholarship in Islamic education and offers an alternative approach for developing mental health services in residential educational institutions.
