Abstract

Street children remain a critical social issue in Indonesia, particularly in Aceh Province, where cultural, economic, and institutional factors shape their vulnerability. This study explores the lived experiences of street children in Aceh and identifies the underlying factors that perpetuate their street involvement. A qualitative embedded case study was conducted using semi-structured interviews, non-participant observations, and document analysis. A total of 41 participants were involved, consisting of street children, caregivers, and family members. Data were collected through in-depth semi-structured interviews conducted in shelters, community centers, and street locations to capture diverse lived experiences and perspectives. Non-participant observations were carried out to explore daily routines, interactions, and coping strategies in natural settings. Additionally, relevant institutional and community documents were analyzed to provide contextual understanding and triangulate the data. All interviews were audio-recorded with participants’ consent and transcribed verbatim for thematic analysis. Data were analysed thematically and triangulated across sources.  Five interrelated factors emerged: family dysfunction, the culture of giving, poverty, criminal exploitation, and weak institutional support. Street children often transition from unsafe family environments to street life, which provides temporary survival but exposes them to exploitation and trauma. Placement in childcare institution orphanages offers safety but presents challenges of adjustment, lack of family support, and insufficient psychosocial services. Reintegration into society remains fragile due to the absence of structured follow-up support. The phenomenon of street children in Aceh is sustained by cultural, economic, and systemic factors. A holistic intervention is required, integrating family strengthening, culturally sensitive community engagement, and trauma-informed institutional care.

Abstract

Condyloma acuminata (CA) represents one of the most prevalent sexually transmitted infections globally. Current treatment modalities focus primarily on lesion removal rather than viral eradication, with no universally accepted gold standard therapy. Potassium hydroxide (KOH) has emerged as a promising alternative treatment option. Objective to systematically review the efficacy and safety of potassium hydroxide in treating condyloma acuminata compared to other established treatments. A systematic literature review was conducted using PubMed, Google Scholar, Science Direct, Wiley Online Library, and Cochrane Library databases. Search terms included combinations of "potassium hydroxide," "KOH," "condyloma acuminata," and "genital warts." Studies published within the last decade comparing KOH with other established treatments were included. From 1195 articles screened, 5 articles were finally obtained on 2014 to 2025. Screening was performed by the authors using Mendeley Reference Manager. Five comparative studies involving 351 patients were analyzed. KOH 5% solution achieved complete response rates ranging from 65% to 88.9%, comparable to established treatments including cryotherapy (54.7-72.3%), trichloroacetic acid (78.6%), and CO₂ laser therapy (88.9%). KOH demonstrated shorter treatment duration and lower recurrence rates in several studies. The safety profile was favorable, with common adverse effects being superficial erosions (14-50%), mild burning sensation, and transient erythema. A 5% potassium hydroxide solution demonstrates comparable efficacy to established therapies, with potential advantages including a shorter treatment duration, patient self-application capability, and a favorable safety profile. KOH represents a viable treatment option for condyloma acuminata, particularly valuable in resource-limited settings.

Abstract

Cervical cancer remains one of the most common cancers among women, with incidence rates continuing to rise. Nurses play an important role in determining strategies to prevent cervical cancer. However, to date, there have been few reviews discussing strategies that nurses can implement to reduce prevalence. This scoping review aims to identify various programs that can be used as nursing interventions in cervical cancer prevention. This scoping review was conducted through PubMed, Science Direct, ProQuest, and EBSCOhost. The selection of studies was based on the PRISMA-ScR 2020 guidelines with the following scheme: (P): Women, Concept (C): Cervical cancer prevention programs, (C): Community and health services. Inclusion criteria included original articles published between 2020 and 2025, Randomized Controlled Trials (RCTs), and quasi-experimental studies. Article quality was assessed using the JBI critical appraisal tool. From 930 records, 13 articles met the criteria. The program was conducted in community and clinical settings such as education, HPV vaccination, screening, information provision, counseling, and training with technology integration strategies such as AI, communication platforms, e-leaflets, social media, and self-sample kits. The program was assessed to be able to increase knowledge, attitudes, participation, and literacy, which can be implemented by nurses.

Abstract

Social media addiction is a worrying phenomenon among adolescents due to its negative impact on mental health, such as increased stress, anxiety, and depression. Self-hypnosis is a relaxation technique that can help individuals independently control negative thoughts and emotions. This study aims to determine the effect of self-hypnosis on the mental health of adolescents experiencing social media addiction. This study used a quasi-experimental design with a one-group pre-test and post-test approach. The sample consisted of 90 eleventh-grade students at SMA Negeri 2 Sidikalang, selected using systematic random sampling. Measurements were taken before and after the self-hypnosis intervention. In this study, to measure the mental health of adolescents, an instrument was used in the form of the Warwick-Edinburgh Mental Well-Being Scale (WEMWBS).  Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test. Before the intervention, most respondents had a moderate level of mental health (83.3%), while after the intervention, this increased to 58.9% in the high category. The Wilcoxon test showed a significant difference between mental health scores before and after the intervention (Z = -7.620; p = 0.000). Cohen's d value of 1.40 indicates a very strong effect, indicating that self-hypnosis is effective in improving the mental health of adolescents with social media addiction. Self-hypnosis has been shown to have a significant effect on improving adolescent mental health. This technique can be used as a non-pharmacological intervention to reduce the negative impacts of social media addiction, increase calmness, and strengthen self-control.

Abstract

Stunting remains a serious public health problem, with inadequate maternal knowledge of pregnancy danger signs being one of its major risk factors. Health education efforts are often less effective due to the lack of culturally appropriate approaches. The Ma’baca-Baca tradition, which is deeply rooted in the Luwu indigenous community, has strong potential as a culturally acceptable medium for health education. Therefore, integrating education on pregnancy danger signs and stunting prevention into the Ma’baca-Baca tradition, supported by a pocketbook as a sustainable source of information, is important to examine in order to improve the effectiveness of culturally based maternal health education. To determine the effectiveness of the Ma'baca Baca tradition as an educational medium on pregnancy danger signs for stunting prevention in the Luwu indigenous community. This study employed a quasi-experimental design using a pre-test and post-test with a control group. The participants were women from religious study groups selected through accidental sampling, namely those who attended the Ma’baca-Baca activity. The respondents consisted of 25 participants in the intervention group who received education through a pocketbook and 25 participants in the control group. Data were collected through pre-tests and post-tests and analyzed using the Mann–Whitney test. A normality test was conducted, and the results showed that the data were not normally distributed. Data analysis was performed using the Mann-Whitney test, which revealed a p-value of 0.001 (< 0.05), indicating a statistically highly significant difference between the intervention group and the control group after the intervention was administered. These results demonstrate that the intervention was effective in improving pregnant women’s knowledge of pregnancy danger signs. In other words, the treatment applied to the intervention group was proven to have a significantly positive impact compared to the control group.

Abstract

Post-stroke patients tend to experience spiritual distress, characterized by seeking spiritual assistance and expressing excessive doubts about the meaning of life. The problems that arise in self-management among post-stroke patients are primarily caused by decreased independence and mobility, as well as inadequate family support, resulting in unmet patient needs and hindering their ability to manage themselves. To investigate the relationship between spirituality levels and self-management in post-stroke patients. This study employed a cross-sectional design involving 145 post-stroke patients selected through a convenience sampling technique. The study was conducted in June 2025 at Muhammadiyah Hospital Lamongan. The instruments used were the Daily Spiritual Experience Scale (DSES) and the Southampton Stroke Self-Management Questionnaire (SSSMQ) (Cronbach's α 0.94 and 0.90, respectively). The data were analyzed using the Pearson test. The results showed a strong correlation between the level of spirituality and self-management (p = 0.000; r = 0.934), with the highest correlation observed two months after the stroke (r = 0.978). The higher the level of spirituality, the higher the self-management ability of post-stroke patients. These findings highlight the importance of spirituality in promoting self-management among post-stroke patients, thereby improving their quality of life and recovery.

Abstract

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is a leading cause of global morbidity and mortality, often worsened by malnutrition, especially in advanced stages. Malnutrition accelerates COPD progression, reducing physical capacity and health-related quality of life (HRQoL). Oral nutritional supplementation (ONS) has been proposed to improve nutritional status, body mass index (BMI), functional capacity, and HRQoL in COPD patients. This systematic review critically evaluates the efficacy of ONS in COPD management and investigates patient-specific factors influencing therapeutic outcomes. Following PRISMA guidelines, a comprehensive literature search across five databases (PubMed, ScienceDirect, ProQuest, Nature, and Google Scholar) up to October 2024 identified 32,293 articles. Nine randomized controlled trials (2020–2024) were eligible for review. Analysis showed ONS led to modest BMI improvements (ranging from +0.1±0.7 to +1.3±3.2 kg), with greater gains in functional capacity, as demonstrated by increased 6-minute walk distances (from +23.0±24.9 m to +86.72±136.14 m) and handgrip strength (up to +3.34±5.65 kg in intervention vs. +0.28±4.32 kg in controls). Quality of life scores also improved significantly, with reductions in St. George’s Respiratory Questionnaire scores and enhanced COPD Assessment Test outcomes. These findings indicate that while ONS enhances functional capacity and HRQoL, its impact on BMI is limited, suggesting ONS alone may be insufficient for malnutrition in COPD. A multidisciplinary strategy combining nutritional support and rehabilitation is recommended. Further studies should focus on patient-specific predictors of ONS effectiveness to optimize COPD care.

Abstract

One of the most prevalent vaginal infections in the world is vulvovaginal candidiasis. Due to numerous reported cases of antifungal resistance, a combination treatment with synergistic effect is needed. We aimed to examine the effects of combination therapy involving the administration of azoles and probiotics for treating vulvovaginal candidiasis. A comprehensive search of databases (Google  Scholar,  PubMed,  Wiley, Taylor and Francis, ScienceDirect, and SAGE) using ("Candida" OR "candidiasis") AND ("azole") AND ("probiotic" OR "Lactobacillus") AND ("combination therapy" OR "adjunct treatment") as keywords was performed. Titles and abstracts were reviewed for relevance, followed by full-text screening, without any time limitation (until June 20th, 2025). The inclusion criteria was study published in English about women with vulvovaginal candidiasis receiving azole and probiotic combination as medical treatment. A total of 10 included studies were clinical trials [RCT (n=7) and quasi-experimental (n=3)]. All studies were published between 2015 and 2024. The most commonly used azoles are fluconazole (n=5), clotrimazole (n=4), miconazole (n=1), and the dominant probiotics are Lactobacillus rhamnosus (n=5) and Lactobacillus acidophilus (n=6). Included studies used different azole drugs; most studies used fluconazole orally, either a single dose of 500 mg or 50 mg once daily. Each study combined these azole drugs with probiotics containing several strains via either peroral or pervaginal. The combination of azoles and probiotics can enhance the antifungal effects against candidiasis. Probiotics not only enhance the therapeutic efficacy of vulvovaginal candidiasis treatment but also contribute to reducing the risk of azole resistance.

Abstract

The daily competency log represents an innovative strategy to enhance nurses’ clinical competency development, particularly in the high-complexity environment of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). This initiative aims to implement and evaluate the daily competency log as a structured tool for monitoring, reflection, and strengthening nursing professionalism at X Hospital. A quality improvement case report approach was applied, encompassing observation, interviews, questionnaires, implementation, and evaluation phases. This study involved 29 NICU nurses selected through total sampling to evaluate the implementation of a Daily Nursing Competency Log. The instrument showed good validity (r > 0.514) and high reliability (Cronbach’s Alpha = 0.87), supporting its effectiveness in improving documentation, reflection, and professional accountability among nurses. Prior to its introduction, no structured competency documentation system existed, not all NICU nurses were certified, and nurse placement was not fully aligned with competency levels. Through pilot testing, socialization, and ongoing mentorship, the daily competency log was successfully introduced and gradually adopted. Digital evaluation indicated that nurses perceived the tool as beneficial for recording daily nursing practices, despite technical limitations such as suboptimal formatting and inefficient competency search features. Conducted collaboratively with the Assistant Manager of Nursing Care, the initiative also established a follow-up plan to refine the system and its content. In conclusion, the daily competency log contributes positively to the advancement of NICU nurses’ clinical competencies and holds significant potential for sustainable integration into the hospital’s nursing human resource quality management system.

Abstract

Since cardiovascular disease is the world's biggest cause of death, it poses a threat to the entire planet. Common signs of cardiac issues include shortness of breath, changes in breathing patterns, breathing frequency, and breathing depth. Patients with coronary heart disease require intervention to enhance their respiratory condition since respiratory issues can negatively impact their quality of life. It is necessary to demonstrate how a combination therapy of pursed lip breathing (PLB) and peppermint aromatherapy affects the respiratory condition of individuals with coronary heart disease. Only one intervention—breathing exercises to lessen dyspnea or aromatherapy to lessen tension and anxiety in individuals with coronary heart disease—has been offered by prior research. In order to enhance the respiratory status of patients with coronary heart disease, this study combines pursed lip breathing with peppermint aromatherapy interventions. Purposive sampling strategies were used to split a sample of 44 coronary heart disease patients into an intervention group and a control group for the quasi-experimental study design. Stopwatches, oximeters, and observation sheets were the tools utilized. The Mann Whitney U Test and the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test were used for statistical analysis. Following the intervention, the data demonstrated an increase in oxygen saturation and a decrease in respiratory rate. Both the rise in oxygen saturation and the decrease in respiratory rate were greater in the intervention group compared to the control group. The combination therapy of pursed lip breathing and peppermint aromatherapy had an impact on respiratory status, according to the statistical test findings, which indicated a p-value < 0.05. In patients with coronary heart disease, the combination therapy of pursed lip breathing and peppermint aromatherapy was found to significantly lower respiratory rate and raise oxygen saturation.
