Abstract

The utilization of tofu dregs as a solid waste source containing starch has not been optimized, despite its potential application as a pharmaceutical excipient. This study aimed to isolate starch from tofu dregs and characterize it according to pharmaceutical grade standards for use as a tablet excipient. Starch isolation was carried out using NaOH solutions at concentrations of 0.1%, 0.2%, and 0.3%. Parameter pharmaceutical grade observed included organoleptic properties, iodine test, pH, moisture content, and ash content, which were evaluated based on the experimental research results and analyzed descriptively. The results showed that the moisture content of the isolated starches was 11.09%, 11.55%, and 11.23%, respectively. The pharmaceutical grade evaluation met the requirements for organoleptic taste, as the starch powder was tasteless, and the iodine test produced a blue coloration. The pH values obtained were 5.94, 5.98, and 6.33. However, the organoleptic parameters related to color and odor, described as brownish-white powder with a characteristic odor, as well as the ash contents of 0.9%, 1.9%, and 1.9%, did not meet the required standards. In conclusion, starch can be successfully isolated from tofu dregs, with the 0.1% NaOH treatment providing the best characteristics and showing potential as an excipient for pharmaceutical tablet formulations.

Abstract

Stunting remains a global nutritional issue that seriously impacts the linear growth of children. To analyze the effectiveness of various nutrition interventions on increasing the height of children with stunting through a systematic literature review approach. A systematic literature search was conducted across four electronic databases PubMed/MEDLINE, Google Scholar, Scopus, and ScienceDirect covering publications from 2021 to 2026, guided by the PRISMA 2020 framework. Keywords employed included: stunting, nutrition intervention, linear growth, height-for-age z-score, food supplementation, micronutrient supplementation, and children under five. From 309 initially identified articles, 12 articles satisfied the inclusion criteria and were systematically analyzed. Interventions proven effective include digital-based nutrition education, Recovery Supplementary Feeding (PMT-P), the DASHAT program, and complementary feeding education. Single micronutrient supplementation did not produce significant changes in height-for-age z-score (HAZ) yang signifikan (p = 0,93), whereas app-based education increased height by ≥ 1,9 cm. Addressing stunting requires an integrated multi-component approach, prioritized since the first 1,000 Days of Life (HPK).

Abstract

Hypertension remains a major global health concern and a leading risk factor for cardiovascular disease. Non-pharmacological interventions play an important role in nursing practice to support blood pressure control. Isometric handgrip exercise has been reported to reduce blood pressure; however, evidence from inpatient clinical settings remains limited. To examine the effect of isometric handgrip exercise on blood pressure in hypertensive patients using a case study approach. A descriptive case study was conducted involving four hypertensive patients admitted to Kultura Ward, 6th Floor, RS UNS. The intervention consisted of isometric handgrip contractions performed for approximately 12 minutes in a single session. Blood pressure was measured before and five minutes after the intervention. Data were analyzed descriptively by comparing pre- and post-intervention values. All patients demonstrated a reduction in systolic blood pressure, with a mean decrease of 13.25 mmHg (range 12–16 mmHg). Diastolic changes varied; three patients experienced reductions of 2–5 mmHg, while one patient showed a 6 mmHg increase.  Isometric handgrip exercise shows potential as a simple and applicable non-pharmacological intervention to reduce systolic blood pressure in hypertensive patients.

Abstract

Stroke remains a leading cause of mortality and disability in Indonesia, with high prevalence in East Kalimantan. Post-stroke patients often depend on family caregivers for daily activities, including basic care, which is frequently overlooked. Limited attention to physiological care (bath, nail, oral hygiene, hair, along with reduced mobility), may worsen patient outcomes. To evaluate the effectiveness of physiological basic care interventions in improving functional independence among stroke survivors. A pre- and post-test design was employed in this study, involving a total sampling of 89 respondents from medical records over a six-month period in the Teluk Dalam Primary Health Care, Kutai Kartanegara Regency. Data were collected between September 2025 and January 2026. All interventions education delivered to stroke caregivers. Functional independence was measured using the Barthel Index. Data were analysed using wilcoxon signed-rank test (p < 0.05). Result: The Wilcoxon signed-rank test indicated that was a significant increase in all interventions (p < .001). This study concludes that caregiver more specifict stroke’s family with education was highly effective for enhances the functional independence of stroke patients. The ROM exercise was most effective, based on that empowering caregivers is a vital-strategy for long-term stroke rehabilitation.

Abstract

Sacha inchi seed oil (Plukenetia volubilis L.) has considerable potential as a functional oil source due to its high content of unsaturated fatty acids and bioactive compounds. The processing method, especially the roasting pre-treatment, can affect the quality and stability of the resulting oil, both in terms of physicochemical characteristics and antioxidant activity. This study aims to evaluate the effect of microwave roasting pre-treatment on the physicochemical characteristics and antioxidant activity of Sacha inchi seed oil extracted using the Soxhlet method.  Roasting was carried out at Med-Low 30P, Medium 50P, and Med-High 70P power levels. The oil was extracted using the Soxhlet method. Physicochemical properties, including acid value, peroxide value, iodine value, and saponification value, were analyzed using AOCS standard methods, while antioxidant activity was evaluated spectrophotometrically using DPPH, ABTS, and β-carotene bleaching assays methods. The results showed that increasing roasting power increased oil yield, with the highest yield (62%) obtained at Med-High 70P treatment. Variation in roasting power did not have a significant effect on acid value (1.301–1.418 mg KOH/g oil) and iodine value (101.940–103.883 g I₂/100 g oil), but had a significant effect on peroxide value (5.32–5.82 meq O₂/kg) and saponification value (171.591–180.422 mg KOH/g oil). The highest antioxidant activity was obtained at Medium 50P treatment for the β-carotene bleaching assay (501.58 mg/L) and DPPH (1214.92 mg/L) methods, and at Med-Low 30P treatment for the ABTS method (673.70 mg/L). Microwave roasting pre-treatment affects the increase in yield as well as several physicochemical parameters and antioxidant activity of sacha inchi seed oil.

Abstract

Urinary tract stones are a common urological disorder in Indonesia and around the world. One common medical procedure used to treat urinary tract stones is ureteroscopy (URS). This case study aims to evaluate the combined effect of Progressive Muscle Relaxation (PMR) therapy and binaural sound stimulation (theta waves) on pain intensity and analgesic needs in patients following ureteroscopy (URS) for urinary tract stones. The method used was an experimental design with a pre-test and post-test design in four patients who met the inclusion criteria. The intervention was carried out once daily for 15–20 minutes, with blood pressure, pulse rate, and pain scale measurements before and after therapy. The data were analyzed descriptively by comparing pre- and post-intervention measurements to evaluate changes in pain intensity, blood pressure, pulse rate, and analgesic requirements following the combined PMR and binaural beat therapy. The results showed that all patients experienced a decrease in pain intensity from moderate (scale 5–7) to mild (scale 2–4), accompanied by a decrease in blood pressure and pulse rate after the intervention. These results indicate a relaxation response and decreased sympathetic nervous system activity. The combination of PMR and binaural sound stimulation has been shown to be effective as a safe and easy-to-implement non-pharmacological intervention in pain management after minimally invasive urological procedures.

Abstract

Acute postoperative pain is a common clinical problem in patients after Open Reduction and Internal Fixation (ORIF) procedures, which can hinder mobilization, prolong recovery, and increase the need for analgesics. Non-pharmacological approaches such as guided imagery and lemon aromatherapy are increasingly being used because they can promote relaxation without the side effects of medication. This study aims to determine the effect of combining guided imagery and lemon aromatherapy on reducing acute pain in patients after ORIF. The study used a case study design with four patients who met the inclusion criteria. Pain intensity was measured using the Numerical Rating Scale (NRS) before and after the intervention. Guided imagery was administered through relaxation audio, while lemon aromatherapy was applied through inhalation for 15 minutes, once a day for three days. All data were systematically recorded through clinical observation. Data analysis was conducted descriptively by comparing pain scores before and after the intervention for each patient, and the results were presented in narrative form and in tables to illustrate changes in pain levels during the intervention period. The results showed that all patients experienced a significant reduction in pain, from moderate to severe (score 6–7) to mild (score 3–5) after the intervention. Patients also reported increased comfort and relaxation without side effects. The combination of guided imagery and lemon aromatherapy is effective as an adjunct therapy in reducing acute pain after ORIF. This intervention should be considered in nursing practice as part of multimodal pain management.

Abstract

Validation of the analytical method is an important step to ensure the method produces accurate, precise, and reliable data. This study aims to validate the method for determining patchouli alcohol (PA) levels in patchouli oil using GC-MS/MS and apply it to samples. The analysis was carried out using Multiple Reaction Monitoring (MRM) mode, monitoring the ion m/z 123 as a quantifier and m/z 109 as a qualifier. PA standard solutions were prepared in the range of 2.5–20.00 ppm in n-hexane, with a retention time of 8.60 minutes and an analysis time of approximately 11.3 minutes. The validation results showed good method performance, characterized by high linearity (R² ≥ 0.9984), accuracy (% recovery 98.00–101.89%), and qualified precision (%RSD ≤ 1.212% for intraday and ≤ 1.663% for interday). The LOD and LOQ values were 0.74 ppm and 2.46 ppm, respectively. The validated method was then applied to patchouli oil samples from three locations: North Kolaka (44.72%), Kolaka (42.85%), and East Kolaka (32.90%), and showed PA levels that met the Indonesian National Standard (SNI) quality standard of >30%. Thus, the GC-MS/MS method was declared valid and suitable for use in analyzing patchouli alcohol levels in patchouli oil.

Abstract

Neonatal asphyxia remains a leading cause of early newborn mortality and long-term neurodevelopmental impairment globally. Characterising its contributing factors precisely is crucial for developing targeted preventive strategies, especially in low- and middle-income countries bearing the highest burden. This study synthesises the most consistent factors associated with neonatal asphyxia across diverse geographic settings using recent empirical evidence. A comprehensive systematic review was conducted across Google Scholar, PubMed, and Portal Garuda. Inclusion criteria comprised primary observational studies published in English or Indonesian between 2020 and 2026. From 150 initially identified articles, exactly 10 were ultimately included for final synthesis. Six clinical factors consistently emerged: meconium-stained amniotic fluid (OR: 2.51–5.19), prolonged labour, premature rupture of membranes (AOR=5.19; 95%CI: 2.03–13.26), hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (OR=2.52), prematurity (pooled OR=3.11; 95%CI: 2.24–4.32), and low birth weight (OR: 3.45–4.60). Furthermore, structural barriers, including the absence of skilled birth attendants and living over 10 kilometres from healthcare facilities, significantly amplified asphyxia-related mortality risks. Neonatal asphyxia is highly multifactorial, requiring integrated interventions to improve antenatal risk identification, intrapartum monitoring, and access to skilled obstetric care. These specific identified factors provide a strong evidence-based foundation for prioritising targeted preventive actions in high-burden settings.
