Abstract

Abstract

The widespread use of cosmetics among women has increased the risk of exposure to hazardous ingredients due to the circulation of illegal products. This community service activity aimed to improve the knowledge of women in Bungkutoko Village, Nambo District, Kendari City, regarding hazardous substances in cosmetics and how to select safe products. The activity employed a participatory educational approach through lectures, interactive discussions, leaflet distribution, and pretest-posttest evaluations. Twenty participants attended the program. The results showed that before counseling, 70% of participants had a low level of knowledge. After the educational intervention, 70% of participants achieved a good level of knowledge. These findings indicate that the counseling program effectively increased community awareness and understanding regarding the importance of choosing safe and legal cosmetic products.

Abstract

Ultraviolet radiation, temperature, and humidity can cause a reduction in the skin's moisture content, leading to dryness. Therefore, an effective moisturizing preparation is required to maintain skin hydration. Avocado (Persea americana Mill.) oil is known to contain unsaturated fatty acids, vitamins, and antioxidants, making it a potential natural moisturizer. This study aimed to formulate a facial serum utilizing avocado oil as the active ingredient and to evaluate its physical characteristics, stability, and moisturizing activity. An experimental approach was employed, creating four facial serum formulations with avocado oil concentrations of 0%, 5%, 10%, and 15%. The evaluations encompassed organoleptic properties, homogeneity, pH, adhesiveness, spreadability, viscosity, phase separation, and emulsion type. Physical stability was assessed using the cycling test method, and moisturizing activity was evaluated in vitro. The results indicated that all formulations exhibited good physical characteristics, were homogeneous, experienced no phase separation, were oil-in-water (O/W) emulsions, and possessed pH values compatible with the skin's physiological pH. The preparations maintained physical stability following the cycling test. Furthermore, the moisturizing activity tests revealed that an increased concentration of avocado oil enhanced the moisturizing efficacy, with formula F3 (15%) yielding the highest moisture values: 52.830% before the cycling test and 42.970% afterward. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that the avocado oil-based facial serum, particularly formula F3, demonstrates the potential to be developed as a stable, safe, and effective facial skin moisturizer

Abstract

The transformation of retail pharmacies into modern retail environments has intensified competition, making marketing strategies such as product display and pricing increasingly important in influencing consumer purchasing behavior. Objective: This study aims to analyze the effect of product display and price perception on purchasing decisions through purchase intention in modern retail pharmacies. This quantitative study employed a cross-sectional design involving 180 respondents from a modern retail pharmacy (Apotek A) in Kendari City. Data were collected using structured questionnaires selected using purposive sampling from a modern retail pharmacy (Apotek A) in Kendari City. Data were collected through structured questionnaires and analyzed using Partial Least Squares–Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). Measurement model (outer model) and structural model (inner model) evaluations were conducted to assess validity, reliability, and hypothesis testing. The results indicate that product display and price perception have significant positive effects on purchase intention. Purchase intention, in turn, significantly influences purchasing decisions and mediates the relationship between product display, price perception, and purchasing decisions. All constructs demonstrated adequate validity and reliability. Effective product display and favorable price perception enhance consumers’ purchase intentions, leading to higher purchasing decisions in retail pharmacies. These findings highlight the strategic importance of retail-oriented management practices in modern pharmacies.

Abstract

The increasing prevalence of gout in Indonesia, particularly among the elderly, emphasizes the importance of community-based education and early detection. This community service activity aimed to improve the knowledge of residents of Kambu Village regarding gout, including its risk factors, clinical symptoms, and preventive measures. The program was conducted by the Pharmacy Profession Study Program of Halu Oleo University in collaboration with the UHO Educational Pharmacy and Mokoau Community Health Center during November–December 2025. The methods applied included pre-test, health education sessions, leaflet distribution, interactive discussions, post-test, and free examinations of blood pressure and uric acid levels. A total of 43 participants were involved. The results indicated a significant improvement in participants’ knowledge, as reflected by an increase in correct response rates from 59% in the pre-test to 98% in the post-test. This activity is expected to contribute to gout prevention and improvement of community health outcomes.

Abstract

Anemia remains a major global health problem, particularly in developing countries such as Indonesia. Clinically, anemia occurs when hemoglobin levels in the blood fall below normal values, reducing the blood’s ability to transport oxygen to body tissues. Anemia is commonly found among adolescents and is often associated with a lack of knowledge regarding the importance of consuming Iron Supplement Tablets (TTD). This community service activity aimed to improve adherence to Iron Supplement Tablet consumption as an effort to prevent anemia among students of SMAN 8 Kendari. The program involved the distribution of Iron Supplement Tablets and health education using lecture methods supported by visual media, including presentation slides and leaflets. A discussion and question-and-answer session was also conducted to encourage participant engagement and understanding. The results of the activity showed that participants gained a better understanding of anemia, its prevention, and the proper use of Iron Supplement Tablets. In conclusion, the students of SMAN 8 Kendari demonstrated increased knowledge and awareness regarding anemia and the appropriate use of Iron Supplement Tablets, indicating that educational interventions can contribute to anemia prevention among adolescents.
