Abstract

Background: The prevalence of chronic kidney disease (CKD) was small but it continued to increase every year in Kendari City. The patients were difficult to monitor. The aim of this research is to formulate an early detection pattern for CKD based on differences in individual health status in Kendari City. Methods: This quantitative research used a cross sectional study design which was conducted at 4 Community Health Centers and 3 Hospitals in Kendari City, Southeast Sulawesi, Indonesia. Recruited 136 respondents aged between 24-70 years. Data collection by interviews with questionnaires. The dependent variable is health status, and the independent variables include behavior, psychological environment, stress and genetics. Data analysis used chi square statistical tests, crosstabulation and multinomial logistic regression. Results: There is a significant difference in drinking water consumption behavior of less than 1000 ml a day (p<0.0001, OR=1.56, B=-20.276), calorie intake of less than 1534 calories a day (p<0.05, OR=2.13, B=-19.969 ), physical activity (p<0.05, OR=5.7, B=1.735), medication adherence (P<0.01, OR=0.4,B=1.999) and psychological stress environment (p<0.0001,OR=8.6, B=2.151 ) with the respondent's health status. Meanwhile, herbal consumption behavior (p=0.195) and genetic factors (p=0.813) did not show significant differences with individual health status. Conclusion: Early detection patterns for CKD can use the variable such as less drinking water consumption in healthy people and no obedient medication in single disease group. Using variables of less daily drinking water consumption and heavy physical activity in multiple diseases group, and less drinking water consumption, less physical activity, and moderate stress in CKD group.

Abstract

Body lotion is a liquid emulsion preparation consisting of an oil phase and a water phase stabilized by emulsifiers, functioning to maintain skin moisture and provide protection. One of the most widely used active ingredients in current cosmetic formulations is niacinamide, known for its effectiveness in brightening the skin, enhancing the skin barrier function, and reducing hyperpigmentation. The success of a body lotion formulation depends largely on the appropriate selection and concentration of emulsifiers to achieve emulsion stability and optimal physical characteristics. This study aimed to optimize the combination of Tween 80 and Span 80 emulsifiers in a body lotion formulation containing niacinamide using a 2² factorial design method with the assistance of Design-Expert software. The formulation was evaluated based on several physical parameters, including pH, adhesiveness, spreadability, viscosity, homogeneity, emulsion type, and physical stability, as well as a hedonic test assessing color, odor, and texture. Optimization results indicated that the best formulation was obtained from a combination of 1% Tween 80 and 10% Span 80. The resulting product had a pH of 6.4, adhesiveness of 112 seconds, spreadability of 6.1 cm, viscosity of 16,568.3 cps, good homogeneity, and demonstrated a stable oil-in-water (O/W) emulsion type without phase separation. Therefore, the optimum combination of Tween 80 and Span 80 in concentrations of 1% and 10%, respectively, yields a physically stable niacinamide-containing body lotion.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the total phenolic and flavonoid content of ethyl acetate fractions from pumpkin (Cucurbita moschata Durch.) and aibika (Abelmoschus manihot L.) leaves, and to evaluate the antioxidant activity of their combined fractions. Analysis of total phenolics and flavonoids content was carried out using UV-Vis spectrophotometry with gallic acid (phenolics) and quercetin (flavonoids) as standards. Antioxidant potential testing was carried out using the DPPH method. The results showed that the phenolics content of the ethyl acetate fraction of PLand ALwas 60.81 and 56.47 mgEAG/g, respectively, while the total flavonoids content of the ethyl acetate fraction of PLand ALwas 64.54 and 55.07 mgEK/g, respectively. The IC50 value of the combination of ethyl acetate fractions of PLand ALwith a ratio of 3:2 was 4.686 μg/mL, while the single ethyl acetate fractions of PLand ALwere 7.040 and 7.549 μg/mL, respectively. This indicates that increasing antioxidant activity can be done by combining fractions from two or more types of plants.

Abstract

Dry skin is associated with barrier dysfunction and decreased hydration of the stratum corneum. Santalum album and Olea europaea contain bioactive compounds that function as emollients and occlusives. A serum balm formulation with a high concentration of active ingredients has the potential to effectively restore skin moisture. This study aimed to determine the optimal composition of a serum balm formula, identify the physical characteristics and stability of the formulation using the cycling test method, and evaluate the moisturizing effectiveness of a serum balm containing sandalwood oil and olive oil. The method involved formulating a serum balm with varying concentrations of sandalwood oil as the active ingredient, followed by evaluation of physical characteristics including organoleptic properties, pH, homogeneity, spreadability, and adhesiveness. Stability testing was conducted using the cycling test method by storing the preparation at 4°C for 24 hours and then transferring it to room temperature (25°C) for another 24 hours. The effectiveness test was performed using an in vitro occlusivity method. The results showed that the serum balm formulations were homogeneously distributed, had a pH of approximately 5, spreadability of 3.2–3.6 cm, and adhesiveness ranging from 9–22 seconds. The physical stability test indicated that the formulations met the required standards, and the moisturizing effectiveness ranged from 30–62%. In conclusion, the most optimal formula was F5 with 10% sandalwood oil, as it demonstrated the highest moisturizing activity at 61.095% before the cycling test and 54.965% after the cycling test, while also fulfilling the required physical characteristics.

Abstract

Customer loyalty is a vital factor influencing sustainability and competitiveness in the pharmaceutical industry. Loyalty is determined by the quality of services provided and the robustness of the pharmacy's brand image. This research investigates the impact of brand image and service quality on customer loyalty at MM Pharmacy. A quantitative research design was employed utilizing Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM), with data gathered via surveys from 100 respondents selected through purposive sampling based on the Slovin formula. The findings indicate that brand image and service quality substantially influence consumer loyalty, with brand image exerting a more pronounced effect. Effect size analysis (f²) revealed that brand image exerted a substantial influence on customer loyalty (f² = 0.376), while service quality exhibited a minimal effect (f² = 0.130). This study also indicates that the R² value of 0.737 demonstrates that the joint impact of brand image and service quality explains 73.7% of the variance in customer loyalty, signifying a significant impact. The remaining 26.3% may be affected by additional variables not incorporated in the model. Furthermore, the Q² value, which evaluates predictive relevance, confirms the model's capability to accurately predict unobserved data by considering both exogenous and endogenous variables.
