Abstract

Sidomulyo Village is on the outskirts of a forest located at the eastern end of Jember Regency, East Java. The village's location, on the outskirts of the forest and surrounded by the Gumitir Mountains, is a challenge in developing this village. In addition, the extended access to the city center has made Sidomulyo Village receive less attention from the district government and investors. A touch of creative and innovative village programs to introduce this village to the broader community needs to be done. One of the program breakthroughs in Sidomulyo Village was a series of activities summarized in the ”Sidomulyo Village Celebration” event. The aims of this study were (1) to find out the objectives and program activities in the "Hajatan Desa Sidomulyo" event, (2) to analyze the spatial reach of the event "Hajatan Desa Sidomulyo", (3) to analyze the positive and negative impacts of the event "Hajatan Desa Sidomulyo". The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative by observing, interviewing, and reviewing necessary research supporting documents. The results showed that the purpose of holding a village celebration was to introduce and build branding in the Sidomulyo Tourism Village. The activity programs for village celebrations include Sidomulyo Tourism Village (STV), Sidomulyo Adventure Trail (SAT), Archipelago Cultural Carnival, National Sheep Contest, Sidomulyo Bersholawat, and Village Celebration Night. The Sidomulyo Village Celebration event geospatially only reached three hamlets: Krajan, Curah Manis, and Curah Damar. Meanwhile, three other hamlets, namely Tanah Manis, Garahan Kidul, and Gunung Gumitir, were not reached or touched by Village Celebration activities. Sidomulyo Village Celebration activities have positively and negatively impacted the development of this village on the outskirts of the forest.

Abstract

This article discusses the history of the development of traditional Islamic education in Jember during the colonial period. Traditional Islamic education in Jember was pioneered by Ulama, who came from the Madura and Mataraman regions. The arrival of migrants to Jember began with the clearing of Jember plantation land by Dutch private entrepreneurs. They then settled in Jember to work on a plantation owned by a Dutch private entrepreneur and built a settlement that resembled their place of origin. However, it turned out that these migrants did not only have economic goals, but some had the goal of preaching. Local people often refer to them as Ulama. These Ulama spread religious knowledge in various places of worship in Jember to establish Islamic boarding schools. This study uses historical research methods consisting of heuristics, verification, interpretation, and historiography. The results of this study indicate that the struggle of the Ulama in developing Islamic education has encountered various challenges and obstacles, ranging from the pursuit of the colonialists to the burning of Islamic boarding schools.

Abstract

The dissatisfaction of some of Indonesia's younger generation with the government's achievements since the independence period until the post-reform period has given rise to various turmoils of thoughts and frontal movements. Various acts of ideological resistance were carried out by various Muslim youth movements, either openly or secretly. Hizbut Tahrir Indonesia, which is a branch of Hizbut Tahrir International, has taken part in celebrating the euphoria of reforms with its massive movements on various campuses in Indonesia. The jargon of Save Indonesia with Islamic Sharia has disturbed the government so that the government under President Joko Widodo's leadership took a firm stance by dissolving HTI in Indonesia. HTI in Indonesia is living in name, but the enthusiasm of former members or HT sympathizers still continues to preach and uphold its teachings. It seems that the teachings of Taqiyuddin Annabhani have a stronger magnet than the influence of Islamic scholars in Indonesia.
