Abstract

Sharia compliance is an important entity of Islamic banks that needs to be maintained. The Indonesian merger policy can be a benchmark for how much Islamic banking pays attention to the dimensions of Sharia compliance. This study analyses the comparison of Sharia compliance pre-post merger policy of Islamic banks in Indonesia. This quantitative study uses a statistical approach to different tests, namely the nonparametric Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test. Data is collected from Islamic banking financial reports pre-merger (2019-2020) and post-merger (2021-2022). The research findings show differences in the Sharia compliance culture in Islamic banks pre-post merger. The Sharia compliance ratio of Islamic banking is better post-merger. This is because the merger makes the Sharia ecosystem more positive, increases religiosity values, and consistently applies existing Sharia standards. The study results have implications for the development of merger studies in Islamic banking, and the implementation of Sharia compliance needs to be continuously improved as a basic barometer of Islamic banking entities in Indonesia. The research limitations are expected to examine the culture of sharia compliance within the framework of strategic policies that need to be implemented by sharia banks.

Abstract

This study investigates the promotion of religious moderation in Pamulang, South Tangerang, through the revitalization of moderate Islam by Kiai. The research uses a qualitative phenomenological approach and attitude-behavior relationship theory to explore the role of Kiai in fostering religious harmony within the Muslim community and across religious groups in Pamulang's diverse society. Data was collected through literature reviews, documentation, interviews, observations, and Focus Group Discussions (FGD). The findings indicate that Pamulang, while multi-ethnic and culturally diverse, is predominantly Muslim. The revitalization is led by ten charismatic kiai, two locals and eight immigrants, with strong educational backgrounds, both domestic and international, which grant them legitimacy as religious leaders. This revitalization has led to significant changes, with the community shifting from conflicts over religious differences to greater tolerance, attributed to the Kiai's efforts to promote moderate Islam.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to reveal the propaganda evidence behind Hasan Tiro's communication reality in spreading the narrative of Islamism in Aceh. The method used is descriptive qualitative with a narrative analysis research strategy. The primary sources of this research are Hasan Tiro's books (writings) and speech recordings, which contain Islamist narratives disseminated to his followers. Based on the results of data analysis, this research produces novelty in developing political communication theory, namely Islamic propaganda communication theory with a da'wah maudhu'i approach. This research demonstrates that Hasan Tiro's political communication is religious narrative propaganda, and Hasan Tiro's propaganda narrative construction has the potential power to indoctrinate his followers with the Free Aceh ideology. The religious narrative constructed by Hasan Tiro encompasses jihadist thematic propositions from the Qur'an. This study has a limitation in that it does not include a netnographic analysis of the development of Hasan Tiro's propaganda on social media.

Abstract

Family resilience refers to a family's capability to positively cope with challenging circumstances and emerge feeling stronger, more equipped, and more self-assured than before. This study aims to examine factors contribute to family resilience within the Muslim community. As the largest Muslim population globally, Indonesian Muslims can serve as a representative sample to illustrate the concept of family resilience within the Muslim population. We hypothesized that religiosity, and family communication may contribute to the formation of family resilience. Participants are Moslems from several area in Indonesia (N=406). The data analyzed by Multiple Regression Analysis. Result shows that religiosity and family communication significantly contribute to family resilience (R Square = 43.3). Family communication contributes higher (28.9%) than religiosity (14.3%). Some future recommendations: (1) programs and policies that encourage families to engage in shared religious practices and improve communication skills can be instrumental in fostering a supportive environment that helps families navigate challenges; (2) subsequent studies can explore mediating factors, such as socioeconomic status or external stressors, that may influence this relationship; longitudinal studies could assess how these dynamics evolve over time, particularly in response to changing societal conditions.

Abstract

This study explores the role of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) in shaping the moral and ethical character of students at SMK Jamiah Al-Aziziyah from a sociological perspective. Using a qualitative approach, data were collected through interviews with PAI teachers and students, observations, and document analysis. The findings show that PAI significantly contributes to character formation by fostering values such as honesty, discipline, responsibility, and politeness. These values are instilled through formal lessons and internalized through social interactions at school, including peer communication, collaboration in religious activities, and role modeling by teachers. Despite these positive outcomes, challenges such as negative social media influences and limited parental engagement persist. The study highlights the need for a collaborative framework involving schools, families, and communities to address external challenges and sustain moral development. It also calls for future research to integrate family and community roles more effectively into character education initiatives

Abstract

This study analyzes how interaction and motivation to use social media influence religious participation, especially among millennial Muslim women. Social media has become a new public space for religious people to interact, share, and organize religious activities. This study uses a quantitative method by distributing online questionnaires to millennial generation Muslim women who follow @kingfasialjim Instagram account. Researchers chose to take samples with purposive sampling using Malhotra's technique and obtained a sample of 100 people. The results showed that social media interaction has a significant influence on religious participation, while motivation to use social media has no significant influence when analyzed individually. However, when interaction and motivation were analyzed together, both were found to have a significant influence on religious participation. The findings are relevant for religious communities and stakeholders who want to understand the dynamics of religious expression and participation in the social media era.

Abstract

This study explores the Gelaran Parowulan as a manifestation of prophetic art that integrates religious, cultural, and socio-political expressions in Tegal, Indonesia. Using a descriptive phenomenological approach, the research examines how this grassroots movement employs traditional art forms—such as poetry, puppetry, and dance—to convey Islamic values while addressing societal challenges. The findings highlight three key aspects: the socio-political critique inherent in performances, the aesthetic expression of religious experiences, and the embodiment of Islam's spirit of raḥmatan li al-‘ālamīn (mercy to all creation). Gelaran Parowulan not only revitalizes local art forms but also fosters inclusivity and solidarity among diverse communities. By rejecting formalism and promoting sincere engagement, this movement redefines da'wah as a dynamic, creative, and accessible practice. The study underscores the transformative potential of prophetic art in fostering harmony and addressing contemporary social issues.

Using sociological frameworks such as Rogers' Diffusion of Innovations, Bourdieu's Habitus and Capital, and Weber's Social Action Theory, the research demonstrates that digital tools like e-learning platforms and Sharia financial apps effectively boost financial literacy. Collaboration with Sharia financial institutions further promotes financial inclusion. This study provides valuable insights for developing Sharia financial literacy programs and informs policy development.

Abstract

The management of Islamic education learning based on digital technology, adapts to Islamic values, recognizing that religious education cannot rely solely on digital tools. Therefore, teachers still play a guiding role in providing direct support to students. This research aims to analyze the management of digital technology use in Islamic Religious Education (PAI) Total Quality Management Perspective. The findings indicate that character-based PAI learning through digital technology encompasses four key elements: digital teaching modules and Learning Management Systems (LMS), digital technology-based learning infrastructure, teacher training, and support for character development in students. These four elements are accompanied by total quality management, so that PAI learning using digital technology accelerates the achievement of educational goals. This research is qualitative, descriptive, and analytical, utilizing a phenomenological approach. Primary data for this research was obtained directly from the Islamic Development Network (IDN) in Bogor.
