Abstract

Oxidative stress in diabetes mellitus triggers activation and increases in platelet counts that play a role in the formation of platelet plugs in the blood clotting process. If excessive blood clots occur, there is a risk of cardiovascular disease. Red seaweed extract contains carotenoids, phenols and their derivatives, fikobilin pigments, polysaccharide sulfates, and vitamins. The biggest phenol compound is flavonoids which are compounds that can produce platelet antia-gregation effects. The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of giving red seaweed extract to platelet counts in diabetic mice. The study group consisted of the treatment group of red seaweed extract, normal control, positive control and negative controls. The dosage of seaweed extract as much as 10 mg / 20 grBB is given in condition. The calculation of platelet count is carried out directly with the Brecher Cronkite method using a calculated room Improved Neubauer. The One Way ANOVA test results showed a significance value (p <0.05), that is, the group of diabetic mice given red seaweed extract had a lower platelet count of 280000 μl compared to diabetic mice given metformin as much as 379000 μl. The decrease is due to flavonoids, saponins, alkaloids, β carotene, vitamins and minerals able to stabilize the production of megakaryocytes and platelets, prevent the destruction of pancreatic β cells and prevent free radicals. It was concluded that red seaweed extract can reduce platelet counts of diabetic mice near normal values.

Abstract

Backgrounds: Restorative dental material is one of the forensic experts directory assistance to determining the identity of the unknown victim who in burn condition. Determining the identity can be done through changes dimensions. Changes dimensions can be look of reduced weight and discoloration on the restorationat high temperatures. Composite resin restorations is one materials that is mostly used because it has mechanical characteristic, aesthetic and physical well compared to other restorative materials.Objective: To identify the changes ofdimensions such as the weight reduction and the changes ofcolor between nanofiller composite resin with microhybrid composite resin which is heated at high temperatures. Method and Material: The material used is nanofiller composite resin andmicrohybrid composite resin. The stageof thetreatment is done by heating the composite resin at three temperatures: 319oC, 412oC, 800oC then look at the changes ofcolor and the weight reduction.Results and Conclusion: The results of two way ANOVA test and Post Hoc LSD test showed a significant differences with p <0.05. Theconclusion is there are physical changes such as discoloration and weight reductionof the composite resin which is heated at high temperatures.Keywords: Nanofiler composite resin,Microhybrid composite resin,and heated at high temperature.

Abstract

Cellular damage caused by reactive oxygen species (ROS) free radical and antioxidant activity has an important role as free radical scavenging in body. This study was carried out to evaluate in vitro antioxidant and ligand afinity toward human ROS receptor (PDB code: 3ZBF). In DPPH method, 1-(p-chlorobenzoyloxymethyl)-5-fluorouracil dissolved in etil acetat, while 5-fluorouracil and ascorbic acid as standard dissolved in methanol. The free radical scavenging activity was measured spectrometrically with maximum wavelength at 512 nm. DPPH method show that ascorbic acid have strong antioxidant activity (IC50 = 19.092 ppm), while 1-(p-chlorobenzoyloxymethyl)-5-fluorouracil (IC50 = -2,500,245 ppm) and 5-fluorouracil (IC50 = -4,998 ppm) have not antioxidant activity. Molecular docking (in silico) toward human ROS receptor was indicate 1-(p-chlorobenzoyloxymethyl)-5-fluorouracil (Ki = -6.2 ± 0.04 kkal/mol) has best activity than ascorbic acid (Ki = -4.8 ± 0.19 kkal/mol) and 5-fluorouracil (Ki = -4.6 ± kkal/mol).   Keywords: 1-(p-chlorobenzoyloksimethyl)-5-fluorouracil, 5-Fluorouracyl, antioxidants, DPPH, molecular docking

Abstract

Malaria is an infectious disease caused by Plasmodium spp. The cause of mortality in malaria is the parasite’s resistance to malaria drugs and immune system problem. Interleukin-10 is an anti-inflammatory cytokine during plasmodium infection. Bangle is a herbal remedy that contains high amount of curcumin showing immunostimulant activity. The purpose of this study was to determine the difference of IL-10 level in Plasmodium berghei-infected Balb/C mice given with methanolic fraction of bangle (Zingiber cassumunar Roxb.) as a complementary therapy. This study was a true experimental with posttest control group design using 25 mice Balb/c which divided into 5 groups (A, B, C, D and E). All groups except group A were infected with P. berghei. After positively infected, group B was not treated, C was treated with artemisinin, group D was given with artemisinin and methanolic fraction bangle 0,017 mg/gBW, group E was treated with methanolic fraction bangle 0,017 mg/gBW. The result showed that group D had the highest-level of IL-10 among the treatment groups. The Post Hoc LSD test showed p value ≥ 0,05. In conclusion, there was no significant difference of IL-10 serum level in P. berghei-infected Balb/C mice given with methanolic fraction of bangle (Z. cassumunar Roxb.) as complementary therapy. Abstract

Jellyfish is one of the animals that is responsible for poisoning in human. The poisoning jellyfish commonly found is Physalia utriculus. Jellyfish poison is potential to cause hemolysis on blood. The purpose of this study was to determine the influence of jellyfish (Physalia utriculus) poisoning induction toward the oxygenation function of the male mice erythrocytes. The method was true experimental design with post test only control group design. Eight male mice were devided into two groups: control and treatment groups with a dose of jellyfish poison 30 mg/kgBW. The observation was conducted by using a pulse oxymeter. The result showed average level of oxygen saturation in the control group minute 0; 15; 30; 60; 120; 240; 480; 720; 1440 were 55%; 54%; 63,75%; 70%; 65,25%; 67,5%; 65,75%; 72%; 55%, respectively. While in the treatment group were 61,25%; 62,75%; 59,75%; 58,5%; 51,75%; 58%; 57%; 75,75%; 47%, respectively. The statistical bivariate correlation test has a correlation coefficient value (r) 0,383. The significance value is (p) 0,309 (p>0,05). The conclusions of this study was jellyfish (Physalia utriculus) poisoning induction has no significant effect toward the change of oxygenation function of the male mice erythrocytes. Abstract

DMBA (7,12-Dimethylbenz(α)antracene) is a prototype of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs) which is present in automobile exhaust, cigarette smoke, and wood stoves. DMBA is converted into its reactive metabolites DMBA-DE and cause liver cell membrane lipid peroxidation, which results in an increased of liver malondialdehyde (MDA) levels. Broccoli contains flavonoid that able to prevent lipid peroxidation. The current study was conducted to find out the different hepatoprotective effect of ethanolic extract of broccoli against DMBA-induced hepatotoxicity in wistar rats using liver MDA as a marker. A total of 24 male wistar rats were divided into six groups, consisting of normal control (distilled water), negative control (DMBA), and treatment (ethanolic extract of broccoli in doses of 250, 500, 1000, and 2000 mg/kgBW). Rats were treated for 7 days prior to a single dose of DMBA on the 8th day of treatment. Liver tissue samples were taken on the 12th day for measurement of liver MDA levels. Data were analyzed using One Way ANOVA followed by Post Hoc Test LSD. The present study showed significant differences on liver MDA levels between groups (p<0.001). This study concluded that there were different hepatoprotective effects of ethanolic extract of broccoli treatment on liver MDA levels in wistar rats induced by DMBA. Market is a public place where a lot of people gathered and hold interaction or relationship withone another. Traditional market has a very important role in the fulfilling the needs, especiallyfor the middle to lower class. Traditional markets in Jember generally appear dirty, and lessservice. The market can be a major pathway for the spread of diseases like cholera cases inLatin America, SARS and Avian Influenza in Asia. To prevent the spread of disease that canoccur in the market, it is required the implementation of environmental sanitation in accordanceto Kepmenkes No: 519/Menkes/SK/VI/2008. This study aims to identify the market sanitation inJember based on Kepmenkes RI No: 519/Menkes/SK/VI/2008. The type of study used is adescriptive analysis method. This study was conducted in August till September 2013 inTanjung Market Jember. This study was identified about location, building, sanitation, clean andhealthy lifestyle, safety, and other facility in Tanjung market Jember. The results showed thatthe Tanjung market is included in the less healthy market criteria. Abstract

The use of a toxic dose of paracetamol is able to generate free radicals in the form of N-acetyl-p-benzoquinoneimine (NAPQI) resulting in increased levels of hepatic transaminase enzymes, Serum glutamate oksaloasetat transaminase (SGOT) and serum glutamate pyruvate transaminase (SGPT). 'A' apple vinegar contains antioxidants such as polyphenols, and vitamin C as well as acetic acid that were thought to have hepatoprotector effect which expected to prevent liver damage caused by NAPQI. The purpose of this study was to determine hepatoprotective activity of 'A' apple vinegar to SGOT and SGPT serum levels in wistar that induced by toxic dose of paracetamol. This study used 27 wistars wich were divided into three groups. The results of this study showed that average values of SGOT/SGPT in the normal control group were 79.00/113.89, negative control group were 289.67/296.22, treatment group were 180/194.44. Statistical test performed by using One Way Anova test for SGOT data and Kruskal Wallis test for SGPT. From the results it can be concluded that the administration of 'A' apple vinegar has hepatoprotective activity to SGOT and SGPT serum levels in wistar rats induced by toxic dose of paracetamol. Abstract

Nowadays emerge event about global worried will have negative effect from highereconomic development to our environment that causes to develop of industry, one ofthem is Illegal Gold Mines industry. This industry very close with environment problembecause it outcomes is waste that consists of high metal, one of them contains mercury(Hg). The preliminary study was done in village sumberagung, pesanggaran,banyuwangi by first Hg value is 0,038 mg/L over environment quality reciprocal. Thealternative of waste processing was by using Eichornia crassipes. The purpose of thisresearch to know the differences of liquid waste Hg value before and after usingEichornia crassipes. This reserach experimental with True Eksperimental Design. Thisresearch have control group with treatment as reserach independent variable. Controlgroup is a group without using Eichornia crassipes, first group (X1) is a group that usingEichornia crassipes with weight 300 gr/L, second group (X2) is a group that usingEichornia crassipes with weight 400 gr/L, third group (X3) is a group that using Eichorniacrassipes with weight 500 gr/L. Analysis of the data using one way anova test. Thisresearch result with signifikasi 0,05, there is significant differences between that fourthexperiment group. Abstract

Disability is a condition that the patient loss of opportunities to take a part in normal life due to physical, mental and social barrier. Disability is commonly caused by low back pain. Physical workload is the one of risk factors of low back pain. The purpose of study was to measure the influence of physical workload and disability caused by low back pain at RSD dr. Soebandi Jember. This research was analytic observational study with cross sectional approach. Physical workload was measured by Self Measured Quistionere Physical Demand and disability was measured by Oswestry Disability Index. Physical workload was divided into manual handling and work postures. As many as 32 samples were collected during May-June 2016. The data were analyzed by Spearman correlations test and showed there were no significantly influence between manual handling (α=0,769), work postures (α=0.763) and disability. Spearman correlation test also showed there were no relationship between manual handling (r=0,055), work postures (r=-0,054) and disability. Thus it, can be concluded that there were no influence between physical workload and disability caused by low back pain in RSD dr. Soebandi Jember.
