Abstract

The Synchronous online argumentation system is highly needed to facilitate learning activity in this internet era. To gain deeper insights about this important issue, this study developed nine principles based on Cognitive Load, User Interface, and User Experience to redesign a system. With this framework, 48 (forty-eight) students of Chi-Ying High School had tested with two prototypes, and the second prototype used the nine principles. The systems were measured with Web-Based Learning Environment (WEBLEI) and System Usability Test (SUS). The result of WEBLEI measurement shows that the second prototype gives better result and shows higher user acceptance than the first prototype. The result of SUS measurement shows that the usability of the second prototype is better than on the first prototype with (4.43) SUS score difference. The result shows that the use of nine principles that applied to the second prototype does increase the usability and acceptance of the students.

Abstract

This study aims to develop instructional media in the form of teaching materials in the form of electronic modules by using the Pageflip Professional 3D software application for fifth grade elementary school students. The method in this study uses the Research and Development (R & D) method that adapts the ADDIE development model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation). Based on the results of the assessment in this study on the questionnaire obtained the frequency perception of 28 students with a percentage of 93.4% in the sufficient category. For the interest questionnaire to get frequency as many as 24 students with a percentage of 80.1% in the good category. While the motivation questionnaire obtained frequency of 28 students with a percentage of 93.4% in the good category. The resulting data shows that the electronic ethnocontructivism module based on the Pageflip Professional 3D software developed can be used as teaching material in the learning process.

Abstract

Personality is considered one of the internal factors that have an impact on students’ ability in language learning. The present study investigated the impact of personality types on their ability in writing English. There are two types of personalities studied: Extrovert and Introvert. The research is quasi-experiment. Students at grade XI Vocational School 1 Sungai Penuh engage in the study, whereas only two classes selected as samples (experimental class and control class). Students were given a personality questionnaire to recognize their personality types. Then, the writing test carries out in each class in order to know the student's ability in writing. The data are analyzed by using t-test. The finding of hypotheses testing proves that the p-score is 0,00. Thus, the p-score is lower than 0,05 (0,00<0,05) which means H0 is rejected and H1 is accepted. Hence, there is a significant impact on students’ personalities to their writing ability. Students with introvert personalities have better writing scores than students with extrovert personality.

Abstract

The interest to do this research is to investigate the impact of technology transformation on the lecturer's performance. The terms technical performance in this research are divided into five (5) indicators: engaging and empowering learning, and teaching with technology, leadership, accommodation (syllabus and lesson scheme), and infrastructure provided by the campus. The findings indicate that many lecturers have a lack of knowledge in technology transformation.  However, all lecturers must have it for the teaching and learning process in the 21st-century. The research methods used were descriptive analysis, observations, quantitative and semi-structured qualitative research, and the questionnaires done using Google Form. There were sixty-four (64) respondents in this research. The result shows that the use of technology proves its significant impact on the lecturer's performance.

Abstract

High-order thinking skills (HOTS) are competencies that must be possessed by male and female students in 21st Century era. The purpose of this quasi-experimental pretest-posttest design was to determine the effect of gender on the level of HOTS empowerment of high school students. The subjects of this study were  students of SMA Negeri 1 Malang and the sample of the study was students of class XI MIPA 10. All students receive biology learning by applying Problem-based Learning (PBL) combined with Two Stay-Two Stray (TSTS) assisted by “Sangkar Hati” media. The collected data were analyzed by using one way ANCOVA. Based on the results of data analysis, it can be concluded that HOTS achievement of female students is not significantly different from male students. Through the findings of this study, it is expected that the implementation of Biology learning in other schools will also implement innovative education with creative media that can empower HOTS of female and male students.

Abstract

Previous studies on motivation had been broadly researched, but little attention was given to learning pedagogical courses motivation. Thus, this qualitative research with case-study research design was conducted. This research aimed to describe ELE students’ motivation in learning pedagogical courses. The collecting data used were questionnaire, interview guidance, and human instrument. The obtained data were analyzed qualitatively through interactive data analysis. The result portrays there are more ELE students tend to be intrinsically motivated in learning pedagogical courses; the rest are identified to be extrinsically motivated, amotivated, and undefined motivation students. The reasons underlying their motivation in learning pedagogical courses can be categorized into: 1) internal reasons (mood, goals, passion, perspective, & personality) and 2) external reasons (parental, score, and lecturer).

Abstract

The purposes of this research are 1) to analyze the differences of the effect of gender, years of study, and major on the academic self-efficacy, and 2) to predict academic self-efficacy in determining academic achievement. This is a quantitative research using a survey approach. The location of this study is STKIP Singkawang (School of Teacher Training and Educational Science). The sample used is 223 students, which consisted of 112 males and 111 females. The data collection technique used is a questionnaire using a Likert scale. The data were analyzed using SPSS with descriptive statistical techniques, correlation, regression, and univariate GLM analysis. The results confirm that; 1) different majors have a significant influence on academic self-efficacy compared to the gender and years of study. The students of social sciences major have higher academic self-efficacy than those in the exact sciences major.; 2) self-efficacy has a positive relationship and is also a predictor in determining academic achievement. This shows that any improvement in academic self-efficacy will be accompanied by an improvement in the academic achievement.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to describe the classification of students' reasoning abilities in solving mathematical problems in elementary schools. The focus of this study is the classification of students' reasoning abilities in solving mathematical problems in the elementary schools of the city of Semarang. This study uses a qualitative approach. The Research subject is elementary school students at Tambakrejo Elementary School Semarang. Data is taken using tests. Based on data analysis, the reasoning classification is as follows: 36.25% understand the meaning in low categories, 37.5% think logically in low categories, 31.1% understand negative examples in low categories, 17.05% think deductions in very low category, 18.15% think systematically in very low categories, 31.65% think consistently in low category, 34.85% make excuses and determine strategies in low category, 49.85% determine method in low category, and 24.3% draw conclusions in low category. Thus the reasoning ability of students is low, students have not been able to think logically to make connections between empirical facts and the problems faced so they are not able to draw conclusions, students have not been able to do the thinking process to make arguments so that new statements are based on facts, it is necessary to develop learning models to improve mathematical reasoning of elementary school students

Abstract

Critical thinking as one of the 21st century competences required by students needs to be developed and analyzed by employing qualified assessment instrument. Test is a kind of critical thinking assessment instrument which quality is developed and analysed to create a meaningful learning. A total of 10 multiple choices items were developed based on critical thinking indicators. The items were then given to forty two 4th grade students in one of the elementary schools in Tasikmalaya-West Java after obtaining STEM learning. Focus group discussions were conducted to construct and validate the instrument. The result of the test was analyzed using Rasch model with the assistance of Winsteps software version 3.75. The results indicated that the analysis using the Rasch model could explain the critical thinking items? quality based on the level of difficulty and suitability and could categorize students? abilities and their suitability for STEM learning conducted.
